The Last Paragon in the Apocalypse Chapter 1796: Return of the Asura Race (23)
Previously on The Last Paragon in the Apocalypse...
Everything happened so fast.
One moment, the crack in the sky opened much wider, and thousands of chaos beasts poured out. And the next second, a Primordial had appeared, his claws mere inches away from Aster’s neck.
Already, the ladies were back in the battle, protecting Queenie and the three Fates for the remaining 20 minutes before the gate opened.
Aside from them, Nadia and Asha also pulled most of their warriors to fight against the ever-growing tide of chaos beasts. The people who were supposed to ensure that no harm came to the four ladies were also being besieged from all sides.
The few remaining were some of the deadliest warriors in the Puppet and Insect Legions. However, a Primordial is a Primordial. Aside from a few, tracking their movements is virtually impossible.
Asura, Knox, and Klaus were the three who saw him, and before any of them could react, it was already too late. They would not be able to get to Aster fast enough.
Perhaps if Aster had his blood in her body, he could swap places with her.
While that would have worked and only slightly interrupted her awakening as an Asura Fate, it would have saved her life. But she had yet to take his blood in her, and so he could only count on his speed.
"NOOOOOOOO!"
Klaus pushed his body forward, but before he could close the gap between him and the Primordial, a wolf zoomed past him, and just before the claw could dig into Aster’s skin, the Primordial was sent flying away, saving Aster’s neck.
"AUUUUUUUUUUOOOOOO!"
Khana, the Grand Alpha Chaos Wolf of the Silver Moon Chaos Wolf Pack, let out an alpha-worthy howl, and from the distance, 300,000 ferocious wolves rushed forward, taking the chaos beasts by surprise.
Klaus looked back at Khana, and she nodded.
He also nodded back, and before he could even thank her, she was gone, clashing with the Primordial.
"That wasn’t supposed to happen," Axarax frowned, but Klaus didn’t give him the chance to even think.
All his incarnations tapped into their abilities and started unleashing attacks that even Axarax, whose extensive battle experience could rival Klaus’s, started fumbling.
But Klaus wasn’t happy just because Axarax had now been tied down.
The mere fact that the crack remained open and thousands of chaos beasts kept pouring out was enough to know he would soon be overrun.
He had recovered about 50% of his beast legion, yet he still needed the other 50% who were still in this universe, or perhaps some had already gone to the Forbidden Universe to become celestials.
If all of them were around, perhaps he would have succeeded in holding back the chaos beasts without losing too many warriors.
He finally understood why he could never underestimate his opponent. This time, the chaos beasts were working for the heavens, and so all restrictions had been lifted, giving them a free chance to do as they pleased.
’18 minutes more to go,’ Klaus said in his head.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the darkness, Luna and Nuna were also locked in a deadly battle with thousands of darkness-type chaos beasts.
They had managed to raise a legion of over 4,000 shadows. So despite the overwhelming numbers plaguing them, they held their own, determined to protect their sisters from the darkness.
Luckily for them, the more they killed, the bigger their legion grew.
The same thing was happening in the shadows, where Nia, her five shadows, and now 3,000-plus shadow fiends had already blocked all paths leading to their sisters, ensuring they took on all the danger even if they were struggling.
Inside the void, Yaxche, the Blood Dagger Prince, sat on a mountain of corpses, wielding his dagger with a straight look on his face.
He had been tasked with keeping the void safe, and looking at the thousands of dead bodies lying there, slowly being devoured by the void, one could tell he had done a thorough job, and he would keep doing so for as long as his mission remained active.
Klaus had no doubt about him.
However, the main battlefield wasn’t going all too well.
Asmodeus was going all out, but even so, they were losing warriors at an alarming rate. It may have slowed down with the Silver Moon Chaos Wolf Pack now joining them, but the chaos beasts kept pouring out, so soon, they would be overwhelmed.
But for now, they are holding one.
Fifteen minutes before the gate opened, an opening appeared, and Orion, the Paragon of Death, took it.
He moved at a blinding speed and quickly dissolved into the shadows.
Then Maud, the Death Heart, appeared and moved toward one of Axarax’s bodies. A whip made of pure darkness whipped in her hand, lashing out with deadly pressure toward Axarax.
The power of death could be felt in the air as the void around the whip cracked, showing the level of intensity it carried.
"Bitch, move bac—"
Axarax, who found himself now facing a woman, cursed, or at least tried to. But before he could even sense him, Orion appeared behind him, and a pair of daggers embedded themselves in his back.
"0.003-second delay between attacks huh," Orion said, and Axarax felt a chill run down his spine.
But it wasn’t the daggers that killed him; it was Maud’s whip that dug a hole through his chest.
His other bodies trembled, not because one of them had died, but because of what Orion said before killing him.
0.003 seconds.
That was his only weakness in these bodies. He always delayed by 0.003 seconds between attacks, which, to billions of warriors, was nothing.
However, to a warrior like him, that 0.003 seconds was more than enough time to take advantage of the chaos and kill.
The fact that Klaus had figured this out despite having to keep his attention in multiple places made Axarax realize he could not underestimate Klaus.
And so he teleported away, retreating to the back of the line with his seven remaining bodies.
"Fine, Paragon, you have asked for it."
He retrieved a device from his space ring and activated it.
A moment later, a beam shot from it and landed inside the crack through which the chaos beasts were coming.
"HAHAHAHAHA! FINALLY, I AM HERE!"
A loud voice boomed, and a hand reached through the crack and grabbed one end of it. Then another hand came and grabbed the other end.
Both hands pulled, and the crack widened.
"Crap."
Klaus’s face fell, and his expression paled.
