Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 2067: Head of the Family
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Adam had met Erik several times, and it was Erik who saved Adam from the elders of the Alderran Family. He was from the Wurhen Family, who ruled the Seventh Wing. Their distinguishing feature was their crimson hair and eyes.
Overall, Adam had a positive opinion of Erik, since he not only saved him and helped him reach the Lower Ring, but also stood by him and Silvana during the battle at the Moon Colosseum.
Also, for some reason, he had a good relationship with Kogen Noukx, a guy who was both a menace and an anomaly.
However, Erik wasn’t the head of the Wurhen Family. Adam didn’t know exactly what had happened to the Wurhen Family, but they had lost their head, and the position had remained vacant for a long time.
Even though Erik was the strongest Phantom in the Wurhen Family, he wasn’t their head. Whether he didn’t want to take on that role or there was some other reason, Adam didn’t know.
Step. Step. Step.
The girl with long crimson hair and piercing eyes was moving toward them.
Only now did Adam notice that she and Erik were wearing similar outfits. They were black, semi-formal robes ending in pointed tips on the sleeves and hems, the inside of which was red, visible as they moved.
"Right, nobles have their ceremonial outfits, and where else would they wear them if not at the Radiant Branch?"
The girl stopped in front of Adam. Her gaze was piercing and full of fire.
Erik waved his hand.
"Adam, meet Skara Wurhen. She’s the future head of the Wurhen Family."
Adam and Silvana were speechless.
’W-What? She’s strong... Her aura matches mine. She, like me, is just one step away from the Second Circle, but... how can a K4-Phantom be the head of a high noble family?’
Erik saw the confusion on their faces and hurried to explain what was happening.
"Technically, the Wurhen Family doesn’t have a head right now. Skara meets all the criteria except that she isn’t yet a Second-Rank Phantom, but..."
His voice deepened as a curious gleam flashed in his eyes.
"As you may have already realized, Adam, she’s close to it and is striving to achieve it as soon as possible."
It’s unclear what reaction Erik or Skara expected, but at that moment, Adam had only one question.
"You."
He pointed at Skara.
"What kind of Star are you? A Future Star or a Present Star?"
Instead of answering, Skara released her aura within a small area so that only Silvana and Adam could sense it.
"What do you think? What title would you give me?"
Only then did Silvana fully understand Adam’s words about talents.
’He... He was right...’ Silvana glared at Adam as her fingertips trembled. ’We’ve never heard of her before, but she looks strong enough to give Adam a fight.’
Sure, if Adam had been at his current power level for many years, even decades, he would have known about most talents, but that wasn’t the case for him.
"So? What’s your answer?" Skara asked again.
A glint flashed across his eyes.
"The Present Star, but not because your aura is special."
Despite his comment, Skara’s expression barely changed. Only her eyes widened for a moment.
"Oh, you gave me the highest rating, but it’s not because of my aura? Then what made you say that?"
Adam’s answer was simple:
"If you don’t do this, you won’t become the head of the Wurhen Family. A family of this caliber needs a strong leader and a Phantom who can reach the Second Circle just a few years before the end of the World Wipe - that’s exactly what your elders are looking for."
Skara was silent for a moment before turning to Erik.
"You were right. He’s an unusual person. What a pity he was born as an ordinary person. If he were part of one of the Twelve Branches families, he could have vied for the role of family head, had there been an opening."
Erik smirked as he deftly took a glass of champagne from a waiter passing by them.
"That’s exactly why he’s here, Skara. Though he’s not particularly interested in competing with you or the other nobles."
"Hmm?" Skara tilted her head, looking at Adam. "In that case, why are you here?"
Adam shrugged.
"I wanted to find out how many talented individuals there are, as well as the strongest Phantoms of the Citadel. I hope at least most of them will show up."
Strangely enough, Skara’s expression grew colder.
"You’ll be disappointed. As a child, I attended several Radiant Branches. Some Phantoms never show up, even though they’re invited every time."
For some reason, Erik, Silvana, and Adam all had sly smirks that Skara didn’t understand.
"Hmm? What are those smirks about?" She glared at Erik. "Am I missing something important?"
"Well, I think you’ll be surprised, Skara. This is the last Radiant Branch in this World Wipe, so it won’t be boring. Although, we have Adam to thank for a lot of that."
Before Skara could ask anything else, a commotion came from the entrance.
Everyone turned toward the entrance to see a man with turquoise hair and eyes. Even though he had come to a high-level banquet, in his right hand he held a soda from some fast-food chain, while in his left hand was a broken camera he’d snatched from one of the reporters.
The man tossed the camera back and took another sip of his soda.
Everyone in the banquet hall froze, for they knew who was standing before them.
The only one smirking was Erik, since this man was Kogen Noukx.
"Just look who’s here."
Erik placed his hand on Skara’s shoulder.
"Watch closely, Skara. This is how the young head must behave to maintain control over the entire family."
Skara gulped.
"You... Erik, I’ll never be able to be as crazy as that lunatic."
Erik’s smirk widened.
"I know. One like that is enough for the whole Citadel."
