My Talent's Name Is Generator Chapter 1305: Something Lurks In The Darkness
Previously on My Talent's Name Is Generator...
Almost seven days had passed since we left Abor, and for most of that journey, neither Lyrate nor I had any reason to slow down. The violet phoenix carried us through the endless darkness between universes, its enormous wings tearing apart the void as it followed the path I had locked onto.
Along the way, we passed through regions of space that neither of us had ever seen before, witnessing magnificent cosmic phenomena that made even my current perception pause for a moment, from enormous stellar rivers flowing between galaxies to various stars drifting silently through the void.
We also encountered several powerful void creatures, some of them possessing enough strength to threaten ordinary Demi-Gods, and rather than waste time avoiding them, we hunted them down and absorbed what remained of their essence before continuing our journey.
By the eighth day, the distant presence I had been following finally became impossible to mistake.
I raised my hand.
The phoenix slowed before coming to a complete stop.
Ahead of us, barely a hundred metres away, was the dead zone I had seen through the All-Knowing Eyes.
There was nothing there.
No stars, planets or drifting fragments of matter.
It was as though something had carved a hole into the cosmos and left behind nothing but an endless darkness that stretched farther than my perception could immediately determine.
Lyrate stepped down from the phoenix beside me, her red hair drifting gently in the currents of the void.
"So this is it."
I nodded, keeping my eyes fixed on the darkness ahead.
"This is the place from the vision."
With a wave of my hand, the enormous violet phoenix dissolved into countless streams of light and Origin energy, shrinking rapidly before disappearing completely into the void.
For a moment, neither of us moved.
It wasn’t that we didn’t want to enter. There was simply something about the presence drifting out from the dead zone that felt deeply wrong to both of us. Perhaps it was the memory of those enormous orange eyes from the vision that had unsettled us, or perhaps there really was something dangerous waiting within that darkness. Whatever the reason, neither of us was eager to take the first step.
Lyrate exhaled slowly, her gaze fixed on the seemingly endless darkness ahead.
"This place... is dangerous. You were right."
I nodded solemnly for a moment before allowing a faint chuckle to escape.
"Yes. I’m mostly right."
The attempt at humor did little to ease the tension, but at least it made Lyrate glance at me with an exasperated expression. Even I found it strange that a place could make the two of us hesitate despite the strength we now possessed. Whatever was hiding inside that void had managed to create an instinctive sense of danger that was difficult to ignore.
"You know," I said, turning my gaze back toward the darkness, "only a place that feels this dangerous could have any chance of helping me cross the next boundary."
Lyrate studied the dead zone for another moment before finally nodding.
"Then let’s find out what’s inside."
I smiled.
"Let’s go."
Without giving myself another opportunity to reconsider, I pushed forward and flew directly into the dead zone.
*****
The dead zone swallowed us almost immediately.
The moment Lyrate and I crossed into it, the light of the outside void disappeared behind us, leaving only an endless darkness stretching in every direction. Even my perception seemed strangely muted here, as though the darkness itself was interfering with the way I sensed the surrounding space. Only an oppressive silence accompanied us as we moved deeper into the void.
For several minutes, nothing happened.
We continued toward the location of the palace from my vision, moving through a region that appeared completely devoid of life. The deeper we went, however, the stronger that strange sensation became. Something existed here. I could feel it, but I couldn’t determine exactly what it was.
Then Lyrate suddenly stopped. I looked toward her.
Her eyes were fixed on the darkness behind us.
Something moved.
A pair of enormous orange eyes opened within the void.
Then another.
And another.
Within seconds, countless pairs of glowing orange eyes appeared around us.
Massive creatures slowly emerged from the darkness, their bodies so enormous that some were comparable to small asteroids. Their forms were bizarre and difficult to comprehend, covered in overlapping black scales that seemed to absorb whatever little light existed around them. Some possessed four powerful legs and enormous wings, while others were vaguely humanoid, with elongated limbs and twisted bodies that seemed to have been shaped from nightmares.
Every single one possessed those same burning orange eyes.
"Ahhhhh!!!" Their screams echoed in the void as they rushed at us.
Lyrate looked around at them, her expression initially serious before slowly becoming unimpressed.
"That’s what was hiding here?"
One of the enormous creatures released a roar that caused the surrounding void to tremble.
Lyrate sighed.
"They’re mostly Transcendents."
Her gaze swept across the horde.
"There are a few Saints among them, but nothing stronger."
I couldn’t help but smile.
"Disappointed?"
"Very."
She raised one hand.
The darkness around her suddenly erupted with crimson light.
Thousands upon thousands of crimson blades materialized throughout the void, suspended in perfect formation. Each blade carried an immense amount of energy, and for a brief moment the creatures seemed to realize that they had made a terrible mistake.
Lyrate lowered her hand.
"Die."
The blades descended.
The void erupted into a storm of crimson.
The enormous creatures were shredded one after another, their scales offering almost no resistance against the countless blades. None attempted to flee and instead threw themselves toward her attack, the crimson weapons pursued them relentlessly, piercing through their bodies before reducing them to fragments of black energy.
Lyrate didn’t even need to move.
She simply stood beside me, controlling the blades with frightening precision as the entire horde disappeared around us.
Yet I wasn’t watching the battle.
Something about their arrival bothered me. I extended my perception and carefully examined the surrounding darkness.
Where had they come from?
There was no spatial fluctuation. They had simply appeared.
My eyes narrowed.
I expanded my perception further, searching through every layer of space around us, trying to detect the smallest trace of movement.
Nothing.
"They didn’t come from anywhere," I muttered.
Lyrate glanced toward me while another wave of crimson blades tore through the creatures.
"What?"
"I can’t find their origin."
She frowned slightly. I ignored the battle and focused completely on the surrounding void.
Then I felt it. A faint fluctuation.
Not spatial. Something much deeper. My expression changed.
"Time..."
The moment I focused on it, the sensation became clearer.
There was an Origin of Time permeating this place, but it was unlike anything I had encountered before. It wasn’t simply controlling the flow of time around the creatures. It seemed to exist beneath the very process through which they manifested, allowing them to appear without crossing the distance.
My perception followed the faint traces deeper into the darkness.
Then I felt its true scale.
My expression hardened.
"This..."
Lyrate finally stopped attacking and looked toward me.
"What did you find?"
I remained silent for several seconds. The Origin of Time here was far more profound than mine.
And, most disturbingly, far more powerful.
I looked toward the endless darkness ahead.
"Lyrate," I said quietly, "whatever created these things... its understanding of Time is above mine."
For the first time since entering the dead zone, her expression became completely serious.
"Then perhaps we finally found the reason this place felt wrong."
