Three ninth-level behemoths appeared on the battlefield, immediately wreaking havoc. Jie Ming attempted to observe one but was nearly killed by a mere glance from the creature. Wizard Peyton and two other eighth-level wizards then engaged the ninth-level threats, drawing them away from the main legion to prevent collateral damage. Peyton's attack inflicted a significant wound, but the behemoth's immense size allowed it to heal rapidly.

Jie Ming opened a separate light screen again, shifting his observation target from the behemoths themselves to the outer battlefield.

In the distance, Peyton was once more condensing a white halo, Leap Power drawing vast tides of elements to converge on him.

And that black lizard behemoth had stopped its earlier careless movements.

It lowered its head, its six thick limbs slowly bracing, and the dark-red glow surging beneath its scales grew brighter and brighter.

The elemental currents around it, which Peyton had been suppressing, grew restless again, and vast tracts of space warped ceaselessly under the influence of its power.

The next moment, it lunged at Peyton, and Peyton went to meet it without the slightest hesitation.

The two figures collided once again!

Hum!!!

At the same moment, terrifying energy fluctuations erupted from three directions at once, setting every observation device on the outer battlefield blaring with glaring alarms.

Watching this scene, Jie Ming could not help but feel a touch of emotion.

In the past, for ordinary eighth-level wizards to suppress a ninth-level creature head-on, it had usually taken at least three to five powers of the same level working together just to contain it.

And if what they faced was a special creature like a behemoth, the situation was more troublesome still.

They were born with colossal bodies and terrifying energy capacity, and their physical structures could withstand utterly astonishing attacks.

Even among ninth-level creatures, the behemoths’ talents stood apart.

So according to past battlefield experience, reliably suppressing a single ninth-level behemoth usually took five or more eighth-level wizards working together.

But now?

Peyton, Alvis and Meridian, three people, could each take on one of the three ninth-level behemoths.

They had not even used any special tactics; merely by raising their own output with Leap Power, combined with their own mature combat systems, they were already able to contend head-on with ninth-level creatures.

Whereas in the past, facing a stronghold like this would have required dispatching close to twenty eighth-level wizards just to be sure nothing went wrong.

This was what made Leap Power truly terrifying: it was as if it had manufactured several times the ninth-level combat power for the wizard civilization out of thin air.

Only by truly standing on the battlefield and watching this technology change the outcome of a battle could one appreciate just how great its value was.

And with the three eighth-level wizards pinning down the ninth-level behemoths, both sides’ main combat forces at last began to commit to the battlefield.

On the Behemoth Alliance’s side, masses of leader-level behemoths went into action.

Their colossal bodies careened through the void; some spat breath attacks straight from their mouths that blanketed vast areas, while others swung their limbs, churning the surrounding space into chaos.

On the wizard civilization’s side, likewise, masses of seventh-level wizards flew out of the formations and began to meet them head-on.

For a time, the entire battlefield seethed.

Spells and breath attacks pounded each other madly.

With the boost from the new version of Leap Power technology, the wizards still held the upper hand steadily.

The Behemoth Alliance, which had once held the initiative through its physical advantages, gradually found its attacks growing less and less effective.

Jie Ming, standing at the rear, no longer had the leisure to go on feeling moved.

As the war reached white heat, he raised a hand and spread out several light screens directly.

“Fate Subsystem, activate.”

A wisp of golden light ignited between his brows.

As a subsystem of the Incense Fire Divine Dao, what the Fate Subsystem was best at was assisting with the processing of vast and complex information and data.

With the system running at full capacity, the multiple battlefields that would once have cost Jie Ming great effort to observe simultaneously were quickly organized into clear images and parameters.

He poured the power of the Five Aggregates Rainbow Mirror into it as well; masses of data were rapidly mobilized and, together with the True-False Void-Piercing Pupil, subjected every change on the battlefield to detailed analysis.

Jie Ming soon caught several sets of key data:

“Hm… it looks like the new version of Leap Power technology still isn’t stable enough. On a battlefield this large, disorder still shows up.”

“No, that’s not right. Going by the statistics, the sixth-level wizards haven’t been affected much; it’s the seventh-level wizards who’ve been affected badly. Strange. That doesn’t make sense…”

Yet just as he was fully absorbed in recording data, Dixon, standing beside him, suddenly frowned.

“Something’s wrong.”

His voice was not loud, but it made Jie Ming turn his head at once.

“What is it?”

Dixon did not answer immediately.

He closed his eyes, his Fate Law running, as if sensing some danger that had not yet truly appeared.

A few seconds later, his eyes snapped open, and he patched directly into the ship-plane’s command system.

“All wizards specializing in close combat, redeploy immediately! Enemies are approaching the ship-plane’s flank!”

The order came very suddenly, but the wizards still instinctively adjusted according to it.

And almost as soon as the order had gone out, the command system issued an alarm in sync.

“Unknown life signs detected!”

“Target count rising!”

“Warning: targets exhibit high-level stealth characteristics. Conventional detection cannot lock on!”

Then, a swarm of behemoths suddenly appeared beside the ship-plane.

They had been hiding amid the fluctuations of space and elements, and only revealed themselves once within a certain distance.

These behemoths differed markedly in build from the ones on the main battlefield.

Most were long, thin and gaunt; some resembled giant scaled serpents, others looked like slender lizards with four limbs.

Their bodies were covered in layer upon layer of fine, dense scales, and after they appeared, the surfaces of those scales rapidly refracted light in every color.

As the light shifted, their bodies actually turned half-visible once more.

Jie Ming understood at once: this was a force dedicated to stealth and assassination.

“The Scaled Beast faction was hiding something like this?!” His eyes narrowed slightly.

In the intelligence up to now, the Scaled Beast faction had always been known for strong defenses and skill at frontal combat.

Those enormous behemoths all relied on tough bodies and energy talents to fight the wizard legion.

But the stealth-type behemoths before him were clearly not meant for frontal combat.

They evidently intended to use their special talents to bypass the main battlefield’s defensive lines, raid the ship-plane directly, and wreck the legion’s command and logistics systems.

If they succeeded, even if they could not destroy the ship-plane, it would be enough to cause considerable chaos.

Unfortunately for them, Dixon had sensed the behemoths’ sneak attack ahead of time, before it had even truly begun.

The instant the stealth-type behemoths showed themselves, the command system completed its response: “Close-combat wizards, close in!”

A group of wizards who had long since made ready immediately broke from their original positions and closed in to surround these behemoths.

Most of these wizards specialized in close combat, and were normally responsible for interception when enemies broke through the formations.

As they unfurled their true bodies, colossal figures of every shape rapidly appeared in the void.

Though somewhat inferior in size, they lost nothing in presence.

And the great majority of close-combat wizards were also the type who excelled at frontal engagements.

By contrast, those behemoths dedicated to stealth, though very large, plainly lacked the abilities needed for a frontal engagement.

More importantly, they were not good at cultivation.

Most members of the Behemoth Alliance relied more on the power their own talents gave them.

The stealth-type behemoths were especially so: they had “invested” a large share of their talent in presence obscuration and concealment, so naturally it was hard for them to possess frontal combat power of the same level as well.

Of course, against the great majority of civilizations, these behemoths could easily rout the enemy even without being good at frontal combat.

Unfortunately for them, what they faced now were wizards.

Boom!

A stealth-type behemoth had only just completed its thrust when a close-combat wizard rammed it head-on.

Its colossal body instantly lost its balance and tumbled backward.

Before it could steady itself again, another wizard had already charged in from the side and slammed a fist into its head.

Right after that, a third wizard bore down from above and pinned it against the void.

The behemoth struggled desperately, the scales on its body shifting color without pause as it tried to hide itself again.

But under the combined assault of several close-combat wizards, it had no chance at all to use its ability again.

Elsewhere, the few behemoths that tried to slip around the encirclement were stopped by wizards who had long been waiting on the outside.

Their stealth abilities really were troublesome.

Had the sneak attack come without warning, it might even have cost a high-level wizard dearly.

But now, the sneak attack had lost its element of surprise.

Against a group of elite wizards who had long since finished deploying and who specialized in close combat, these behemoths’ advantages had been stripped away almost entirely.

The stealth-type behemoths, which could once have held their own against ordinary eighth-level wizards by relying on their talents, now could not gain the slightest edge in frontal strength.

For a time, a rather gruesome picture appeared on the battlefield.

These stealth-type behemoths were surrounded and given an inhumanly brutal beating the moment they appeared.

Some had not even fully revealed themselves before being locked onto by multiple spells at once, losing the ability to move inside a spatial lockdown.

Watching this scene, Jie Ming could not help shaking his head. “This really is…”

Strictly speaking, the behemoths’ idea had been a good one, and the talents of these hidden behemoths were very strong too.

But there was no getting around the fact that the wizards had an unreasonable existence like a fate-discipline wizard on their side.

Dixon, standing beside him and watching the battlefield, shook his head helplessly as well. “What a waste, what a terrible waste! Such good research material, and they’ve beaten it to a pulp!”

Jie Ming glanced at him. “I think you’re just sore about your share.”

After all, it was Dixon who had first discovered the anomaly, and under the wizards’ management regulations, he was entitled to a share of these behemoths as spoils of war afterward.

And since these behemoths had managed to slip past so many of the wizard legion’s perimeter detection spells, their research value was far higher than that of the behemoths on the main battlefield.

Dixon gave a cold laugh at that. “As a holder of the Level-One Cultivation Protocol, you’re entitled to a share of the spoils in this legion as a matter of course.”

Jie Ming’s face changed on the spot. “Damn! These guys are being far too wasteful. Hey, hey, hey, you’ve smashed those scales to bits! How are we supposed to research them now?!”

And while the two of them stood “united against a common enemy,” that swarm of stealth-type behemoths had already been thoroughly suppressed.

The close-combat wizards gave them no chance to escape, launching attack after attack until they had been beaten past the point of resistance.

Some of the behemoths were killed outright, while others were forcibly sealed, to be set aside for later research.

Only then did the alarms around the ship-plane finally stand down.

Jie Ming saved the combat data from just now, and went on collecting data from the battlefield.
