I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 992: A Ninth-Level Battlefield

“Jie Ming, get back.” Dixon suddenly stepped in front of him.
The eighth-level fate wizard’s tone was uncharacteristically grave; even his usual composure had been reined in a good deal.
Jie Ming did not answer at once, because all of his attention was now focused on something else.
The golden light at his forehead flickered without pause as the Fate Subsystem sifted through masses of observation data at an astonishing speed.
The Five Aggregates Rainbow Mirror, too, kept adjusting its recording methods, trying to extract meaningful structure from the chaotic fluctuations.
On the other side, the third ninth-level behemoth had begun to move its body as well.
And as it moved, the elemental currents around it, which could normally pass freely through the void, were forced to detour around its body, like a river meeting an immovable mountain range.
The displaced elements piled up alongside the behemoth, colliding with one another, and finally formed a continually expanding energy turbulence.
Its body was like a walking source of chaos on the battlefield.
Merely by being there, it was enough to change how the surrounding environment operated.
Jie Ming instinctively wanted to record this phenomenon.
Yet just as the observation model was about to take shape, the third behemoth suddenly turned its head.
Across that vast distance, Jie Ming could not even make out its eyes.
But in the instant it turned its head, every means of observation Jie Ming had, including the True-False Void-Piercing Pupil, failed at once.
Because the region he was observing had suddenly lost any stable structure that could be parsed.
Jie Ming had only enough time to glimpse a fleeting outline before he felt his consciousness slam into a wall of immeasurable height.
The next moment, Dixon had already swept him sideways and away.
Boom!
The position where they had been was swept by an invisible force.
Tens of thousands of kilometers of void behind Jie Ming caved in soundlessly, and vast swaths of elements vanished along with the residual spatial structure.
Several constructs responsible for transport and repair failed to complete their turn in time, and their outer protection was torn open.
The arrays on the constructs went dark one after another, and before their emergency teleportation arrays could even open, they were swallowed whole by the energy turbulence that followed.
At the sight, Jie Ming felt his heart seized by an icy hand.
He knew very well that he had not been locked onto; that behemoth had not even deliberately struck at him.
It had likely been nothing but a ripple that appeared near its line of sight as it turned its head.
Yet even an effect of that magnitude was enough to put him in mortal danger.
“Don’t try to observe it directly again.”
Dixon still stood in front of Jie Ming, the Fate Law around him transformed into countless crisscrossing fine threads, weaving in advance against the dangers that might arise in the surrounding area.
“I’ve adjusted the fate lines a little, and on top of that we’re far enough away. Under normal circumstances, these dangers won’t fall on you.”
Jie Ming was silent for a moment, then shut down the True-False Void-Piercing Pupil, which had lost its effect. “Look on the bright side. Facing the ninth level now, at least it takes a glance to kill me… so my strength has improved, I suppose.”
Just then, a pillar of white light suddenly blazed in the distance.
Wizard Peyton had made his move.
As the commanders of the wizard legion, Peyton and the others naturally would not sit by and watch ninth-level creatures charge the front line directly.
“Act according to the original plan.” Peyton’s voice carried across the legion through the command system.
“I’ll take the left target, Alvis the middle, Meridian the right. Draw them as far away as you can, and keep the ninth-level battlefield from affecting the main legion.”
“Understood!” ×2.
The three eighth-level wizards broke from the formations almost simultaneously, each heading to meet their own target.
In perfect understanding, they had chosen to take the initiative before the enemy could close on the main battlefield.
In a clash between ninth-level powers, even the aftershocks were quite lethal.
If they were allowed to fight above the legion, even the mere aftershocks of the attacks would cause incalculable losses.
This was not only what the three eighth-level wizards thought; the three ninth-level behemoths thought so too.
So neither side had any intention of letting this battle take place in the middle of the main battlefield.
The three wizards spread out quickly, and the three ninth-level behemoths likewise each adjusted course, giving chase after their respective opponents.
Facing the enemy charging at him, Wizard Peyton spread out his law fixation.
At the same time, energy circuits lit up layer upon layer, and the scattered elemental currents gradually condensed into an immense white halo.
From where Jie Ming stood, that halo was less conspicuous than a single one of the behemoth’s scales.
But when it was released, the temperature readings across the entire battlefield changed abruptly.
The motion of countless elemental particles began to slow, and the efficiency of energy transfer was forcibly suppressed; wherever the halo passed, the energy turbulence surging alongside the behemoth stagnated with it.
Peyton pushed his power to the limit, finally compressing the white halo into a single line and hurling it at the behemoth’s skull.
That lizard-like ninth-level behemoth jerked up a forelimb, dark-red light welling out between its scales, trying to block the attack head-on with its own power.
In the instant the two powers collided, Jie Ming could see the distant void suddenly contract inward.
Right after that, a region of millions of kilometers around the point of impact went briefly blank, then was filled by the energy that came gushing out.
Masses of plane fragments were flung outward, smashing other fragments along the way and forming an ever-widening zone of disaster.
When Peyton’s attack ended, several pieces of black scale armor on the forelimb the lizard behemoth had raised had lost their luster, their edges showing traces of disintegration.
The Heat Death Law seeped inward along the wound, leaving the behemoth’s energy circulation noticeably sluggish.
But faced with the wound on its own claw, the behemoth merely swung its forelimb casually.
The white halo around it twisted in an instant, then was forcibly scattered, and the behemoth’s claw healed at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Right after that, the forelimb, far larger than a continent, swept across; the space it passed through was like a curtain forcibly ripped apart, and vast pitch-black rifts surfaced along its path.
Peyton had no intention whatsoever of taking it head-on, and threw himself sideways by spatial transfer.
His figure fell back and back, and only after retreating millions of kilometers did he steady himself again.
In the distance, Jie Ming’s expression was grave.
He could tell that Peyton’s attack had not failed to injure its target.
On the contrary, even judged by the standards of a ninth-level creature, the damage from that blow was quite astonishing.
But this was precisely where ninth-level behemoths differed from other ninth-level beings: their bodies were simply too enormous!
An attack that would have seriously wounded any other ninth-level being was nothing more than a light injury when it landed on them.
Elsewhere, Alvis and Meridian had each met their own opponents as well.
The three battlefields were like three disasters of entirely different scales, devouring the surrounding void all at once.
And further away, the wizard legion’s command network kept on relaying orders.
“Forward formations redeploy!”
“Pull out of all damaged planes! Abandon any resources that can’t be recovered!”
“Account for all units out of contact! No one is to enter the perimeter of the ninth-level battlefields without authorization!”
Order after order came down, and the advance that had been sweeping all before it began to slow.
The wizards were still clearing out behemoths, but every action was now forced to be adjusted around the three distant battlefields.
Even the seventh-level wizards responsible for pursuing the enemy no longer dared to expand their law domains freely, lest they be caught up in the aftershocks of the ninth-level fighting.
