Prison Island
Elder-Level Wizard Marveth’s senses were sharp. He heard a slight movement of wind in his ears. He then exited the prison cell once again and looked above.
No one was coming to the prison cell, and no one was going out. Marveth frowned. It was not the first time this had happened; it was his second time experiencing it.
He continued to stand there for a few minutes, but he saw no other changes. By that time, Elder Erwin had already appeared outside. He stood behind the old man.
Both of them avoided talking to each other.
Marveth then went to the third prison cell and followed the same process.
Swoosh!
Right then, I appeared outside, grabbed Forbidden Wizard Erwin’s shoulder from behind, and put him inside the system space.
I instructed the system to isolate him. No one was to approach him except me. Then I appeared back inside the control room. I arrived in front of the control mirror.
I saw that the old man and the other wizard were standing behind Elder-Level Wizard Marveth. However, Elder-Level Wizard Marveth was busy continuing to bring out the imprisoned wizards.
As time went by, the number of imprisoned wizards gathered reached one hundred.
Marveth thought the number was enough, but he didn’t know one of them was missing. He put the magic artifact back right away.
The rest of the captives were still imprisoned inside the cells. He would take them away when needed.
Marveth then brought the one hundred captives outside.
Before taking them away from the underground prison cell, Marveth paused his movements. He turned around and looked toward the people.
His gaze swept across them. He saw their number was less than one hundred. Seeing that, he was stunned.
He was sure that he had lifted the restrictions on the one hundred prison cells, so the number should have been exactly one hundred. Why was one missing?
His gaze hardened. Seeing this, the 99 assembled wizards felt an unknown pressure weigh down on them. They didn’t know what was going on.
The 99 captives included both Magic Lords and Forbidden Wizards. They looked at each other in bewilderment.
Swoosh!
In less than a fraction of a second, Elder-Level Wizard Marveth appeared above the well. He looked down at the entrance to the underground prison cell.
He saw nothing except darkness. His mental power covered the underground prison cell once again.
He checked the count again, and in the end, he confirmed that one of them was indeed missing. He was shocked to his core.
He looked back at the crowd. There was no way for a person to go missing under his elder-level senses. If he spoke out now, the news would spread.
The situation was puzzling to him. Who could rescue a wizard right under his nose? Marveth hovered in midair for a few minutes.
He looked above his head. He saw the area covered completely by the barrier; an absolute barrier enveloped the entire island.
If the person wanted to escape, they would have to pass through the barrier. So, he sat down on the brick edge of the well entrance.
He was going to wait and see. It was impossible for someone to disappear just like that. The situation matched the disappearance of the patrol teams some time ago.
The mana layers weren’t disturbed. The mana space fabric had not been used either. Everything looked calm and undisturbed.
The 99 wizards stood in the same place in fear. They didn’t know what was happening with the Elder-Level powerhouse. They didn’t dare discuss it amongst themselves, either.
Meanwhile,
Inside the system space, Forbidden Wizard Erwin looked at the blue landscape in bewilderment.
He tried to explore the area, but he found himself returning to the exact same spot again and again. He understood that an Elder-Level Wizard had used some sort of artifact to imprison them.
He just hadn’t seen when it was done.
He had been right there when the Elder-Level Wizard entered the prison cell, so he didn’t understand how he had ended up here.
He eventually gave up on finding the boundary of the blue space. He sat down in one spot and began to focus on his injuries.
On the other hand, I was inside the control room. The system alerted me with a reminder that I couldn’t go outside right now.
Apparently, Elder-Level Wizard Marveth was waiting for me at the entrance. He must have figured out that one of the captives was missing.
He was probably scratching the back of his head right now. I didn’t know how long I would have to stay there, but I was up for the challenge.
I had saved Elder Erwin from the prison. It was a huge risk, but I had succeeded in the end. Compared to that success, I could wait here for a long time. It didn’t matter how many hours or days it took.
I was ready to hide inside the mansion. I was sure the Elder-Level Wizard would give up eventually.
Time went by.
The patrol wizards had no clue what was going on, but it was clear to them that something beyond their knowledge was happening.
Otherwise, there would be no need for Elder-Level Wizard Marveth to continue staring down the entrance of the underground prison cell.
More than two hours passed, but Marveth hadn’t found a single clue. He started to give up. He also knew that the crazy old woman was waiting for him.
If he didn’t leave right now, she would come up. He was carrying her magic artifact as well. Next, he entered the underground prison cell again.
He used the same magic artifact to bring out one more captive, bringing the total back up to one hundred. Now he could return.
Swoosh!
In a flash, he appeared outside. He then instructed the other wizards to follow him. Only then did the wizards sigh in relief.
They didn’t know why another person had appeared, but there were a few sharp wizards among the group.
They figured out that their count had now reached one hundred, whereas earlier, it had only been ninety-nine.
They kept that information to themselves and didn’t share it with anyone else.
In the blink of an eye, they arrived at the barrier. Elder-Level Wizard Marveth paused in his tracks. He spread his mental power across the area once more.
It covered the entire place, including the entrance to the underground prison cell, but he still couldn’t find a single clue.
