Following the Regent King's reforms, the Night Race's control over the blood populace shifted, leading to a feast that was interrupted. Medi, a pure-blood Night Race, was ambushed and gravely wounded by Bologue, who used a silver-laced weapon. Bologue revealed that Serey, a notorious traitor of the Night Race, was responsible. Serey then systematically killed the feasting Night Race members, before turning his attention to Medi, intending to interrogate him using a hooked tool provided by Bologue.

Serey moved swiftly; even though he hadn’t taken on the role of an executioner for nearly a century, he was still exceptionally adept at extracting Medi’s internal organs.

The wound in the abdomen resembled a bloodthirsty maw, accompanied by bodily convulsions and agony. Bloodied organs were vomited out.

Serey weighed Medi’s tangled intestines in his hand; they were like balls of yarn knotted together, deadlocked one after another. After a few presses, Serey rudely stuffed them back in.

Medi bit his teeth tightly; no matter how strong his will was, under such torment, his spirit fell into a bizarre stupor, his already pale face grew even more discolored, like a cold patch of snow.

“Do you have anything to say now?”

As Serey asked, he ladled blood from a container, splashing it casually onto Medi’s body.

Even without the suction of the mouth, the blood that landed on Medi evaporated instantly like dew under the noon sun, absorbed into his body.

With the nourishment of blood as well, the terrifying wound on Medi’s abdomen healed at a visible speed, but just as it was about to close completely, Serey stabbed the hook out again, gently tugged, ripping open a shocking scar once more, with the writhing organs teetering precariously.

Medi opened his mouth wide, the pitch-black throat emitted a silent howl, seemingly wanting to say something but was interrupted by the pain, only instinctively gulping air to alleviate the suffering.

Seeing that Medi seemed to want to speak, Serey thought his interrogation was effective. He released the iron hook, leaving it in Medi’s abdominal cavity, ladled blood to soak his forehead.

Serey asked, “What do you want to say?”

Medi breathed heavily. It took him half a minute to calm himself down, raising his head, his cloudy eyes filled with mockery.

“What do I want to say? Oh God, I have too much to say.”

Medi laughed hoarsely, “Just like I said before, I am a nobody, whereas you, you are the sinister legend, the Savior Serey!”

After speaking, he laughed fanatically; his frenzied laughter tugged at the wound, and Medi began to cough violently again, accompanied by body tremors, with blood gushing from the wound.

“I’ve looked into your deeds, and how to evaluate them… You’re a complete coward, aren’t you?”

Medi stared at Serey without shying away, “Don’t make any nonsensical excuses; even I, as an observer, can read from those historical events the vile character and the hollow soul you possess.”

Serey’s expression altered slightly; Medi wasn’t repenting, but rather mocking him. Yet Serey didn’t continue to torture Medi but listened quietly instead.

“You fear your father, fear his power, yet you are afraid of taking responsibility, afraid of bearing the cost of defying authority, and so you willingly fall, becoming a mindless weapon, manipulated by your father, the Night King.”

Medi laughed gleefully. Before being turned into the Undead by the Regent King, he was a scholar, obsessed with historical research. After arriving in the Land of Eternal Night, he spent most of his time recreating the history of the Eternal Night Empire, clearly documenting the almost unknown history of betrayal recounted by the Regent King.

“I know, I know, you detest such a life, but you have absolutely, absolutely no courage to resist; you even needed the sacrifice of a woman to muster courage.”

Medi’s voice turned sinister, soft, “I guess you didn’t really muster courage, did you? You’re just using the rage from her death to briefly numb your spirit, to make yourself forget what fear is—until it finds you again.”

The corners of his mouth stretched wide; Medi’s exaggerated smile resembled that of a deranged mental patient, “I’m right, aren’t I, Serey? If you had truly braced yourself, all of this would have ended long ago.”

“The reason you haven’t destroyed the Night Race completely is simply because the slaughter has vented enough fury and hatred in you, and… you don’t dare to face him.”

Medi furrowed his brow deeply, his face’s smile undiminished, “Exactly, it’s that simple; you don’t dare to face him, the source of all tragedies, you only dare to kill some worthless people, announcing to everyone, look, I, Serey, still have courage.”

“Now, you’ve returned.”

Medi feigned a shocked expression, speaking incredulously, “Could it be that you’ve mustered courage?”

Serey said nothing, nor did he take any action; but his clenched fists with veins popping told everyone that if Serey wasn’t forcibly keeping his composure, Medi would already be a corpse.

“Oh… seems not.”

Medi shook his head in disappointment, “Then why have you come? Surely it’s not just to catch up?”

As soon as the words left his mouth, something dawned on Medi, and he displayed an excited look, probing, “Her? Your daughter? Did something happen to her? Could it be…”

Medi did not continue speaking, choosing instead to laugh wildly. Medi had figured it out; for someone as vividly defined in character as Serey, his actions were far too predictable, predictable to the point where he almost had his motives written all over his face.
