"Don't run away..."
"Little Migu, don't run..."
"I can't catch up, Little Migu..."
Within a courtyard named "Fine Water Garden" in the Zhou Kingdom's imperial palace, Xue Kui chased Little Hundun, the two of them dashing about the courtyard ceaselessly.
Without quite noticing, Xue Kui had already been within the palace for half a month now.
Though Yu Yunwei could not leave Hongxiu Palace, Xiao Mo had never said that Xue Kui, this small girl, needed to remain confined as well and so, over this half month or more, Xue Kui often left Hongxiu Palace, wandering to other parts of the palace to play.
And Xue Kui found she rather liked this place.
Never mind that Sister Yunwei spent every day scheming how to spirit that big brother away, she herself didn't need to study for now.
Every day, someone would bring various pastries and treats she had never tasted before, back in the Western Region.
There were plenty of little dresses here too, all quite lovely, and Xue Kui could wear a different one every day yet, changing outfits again and again, Xue Kui still felt the red dress suited her best.
Most importantly, Xue Kui felt she had found a playmate.
Once Xue Kui grew familiar with Little Hundun, the two little creatures often chased and played with each other, and Little Hundun frequently led Xue Kui to explore new and exciting places.
Just like today.
"Little Migu, I've got you!"
The moment Little Hundun paused within the courtyard, Xue Kui leapt forward, gathering her into her arms.
"Migu, Migu..."
Little Hundun pointed her wing toward a certain direction, calling out ceaselessly.
Xue Kui tilted her head, looking at Little Hundun with puzzlement, guessing, “Little Migu, are you saying you want to take me somewhere new to play?"
"Migu! Migu!"
Little Hundun nodded her small body vigorously, then wriggled free from Xue Kui's embrace, flying off toward a certain direction.
Xue Kui, naturally, lifted her skirt hem and hurried after her.
About two incense sticks' time later, Xue Kui followed Little Hundun to a large door.
Pushing the door open and walking inside, then gently closing it behind her.
Within, all manner of weapons were arranged, along with several wooden training dummies.
Array patterns carved into the floor drew in the surrounding spiritual energy quite effectively.
"Little Migu, is this the place you wanted to bring me to?" Xue Kui asked, puzzled.
"Migu~" Little Hundun nodded her body, taking a wooden saber from a rack and tossing it toward Xue Kui, then picking up one for herself as well.
"Little Migu, do you want to spar with me?" Xue Kui asked.
"Migu!" Little Hundun nodded.
"I'm quite skilled, you know~ Little Migu, better be careful."
Xue Kui gripped the wooden saber with both hands, happily raising it, charging at Little Hundun with a cheerful war cry.
The two little creatures played about the Dao Inquiry Platform, their wooden sabers clashing against one another ceaselessly.
At first, Xue Kui thought Little Hundun simply wanted to play with her but gradually, Xue Kui sensed something was off.
Little Hundun seemed to be guiding her, teaching her a saber technique and this saber technique seemed to be the very "Blood Demon Sword Formula" that Sister Yu herself cultivated.
Sister Yu had once taught her the Blood Demon Sword Formula before as well, and she had studied it for a while.
Only, she was rather slow-witted, and had learned only a little of it but how could Little Hundun possibly know it too?
And just as Xue Kui puzzled over this, the doors of the Dao Inquiry Platform slowly opened.
Xue Kui jumped in fright, hurriedly gathering Little Hundun into her arms, hiding behind a wooden training dummy.
Peeking out her small head, Xue Kui saw that big brother from before walk in.
Arriving at the Dao Inquiry Platform, Xiao Mo, already at the Dragon Gate realm, naturally sensed the presence of others.
"No need to hide. Come on out." Xiao Mo said.
Hearing Xiao Mo's voice, Xue Kui's small body trembled faintly, and she walked out from behind the wooden dummy, still holding Little Hundun.
"Big brother... please... please don't hit us... we didn't mean to come here. We'll leave right away."
Xue Kui's eyes welled with tears, appearing as though she might burst into tears at any moment.
Mainly because, half a month ago, Xue Kui had witnessed Xiao Mo interrogating her own Sister Yu, a truly terrifying sight.
She feared that whip might come down upon her own body at any moment.
"Why would I hit you two?"
Xiao Mo smiled, realizing he had left this little girl with a certain psychological shadow.
Truth be told, Xiao Mo held quite a favorable impression of this little girl.
There was a naturally endearing quality about her.
Perhaps it was simply because she was genuinely adorable.
"You two may play here if you wish. I'm going to practice my sword now." Xiao Mo said to Xue Kui and Hundun.
Xue Kui still stood frozen in place, too frightened to move even slightly but Xiao Mo paid her no further mind, already picking up a wooden sword, walking off to a distance, beginning to practice the Grass Character Sword Formula.
Watching this big brother before her wield his sword, fierce sword-qi radiating around him, Xue Kui blinked, watching him in a daze.
She found this big brother remarkably striking when practicing his sword and compared to that fierce, terrifying figure from before, he now appeared far gentler.
An incense stick's time later, once Xiao Mo had completed a full round of the Grass Character Sword Formula, he turned his head, and saw this little girl still watching him.
"Well? Would you like to learn?" Xiao Mo assumed she was interested in swordsmanship, asking with a smile.
Hearing Xiao Mo's voice, Xue Kui froze for a moment, then shook her head repeatedly, “Big brother... I... I don't practice sword. I practice saber..."
"Saber?" Xiao Mo asked with genuine interest. "Do you know saber techniques? Show me."
"But I... I'm not very good at it. Big brother, you mustn't laugh at me." Xue Kui's cheeks flushed faintly.
"Don't worry, I won't laugh." Xiao Mo said with a smile, nodding.
"Then... then all right..." Xue Kui, her cheeks still flushed, picked up the wooden saber, beginning to demonstrate her technique.
Watching the little girl's clumsy movements, the corners of Xiao Mo's mouth could not help but curve upward, finding it simply adorable because the little girl's movements were so unpolished, Xiao Mo could not tell what saber technique it was at all.
But gradually, Xiao Mo began to sense something increasingly familiar about this saber technique and watching this red-skirted little girl's figure, Xiao Mo's expression, too, grew ever more distant.
Without quite realizing it, the figure of a woman rose before Xiao Mo's eyes.
She, too, wore a red skirt, her black hair, flowing like a waterfall, tied back with a red ribbon, a wine gourd always hanging at her waist, gripping a blood-red long saber, teaching him move by move.
"Big brother... I only know this much. I've forgotten the rest... (Boy, how much of what I just taught you do you remember?)"
Xue Kui turned around, holding her wooden saber, looking at Xiao Mo.
(The woman in the red skirt turned, gazing at him with a half-smile.)
"Big brother, what do you think?"
"(Hey, kid, have you learned it yet?)"
