Fisher is revealed to be controlled by the 'escapee' Paimon, who orchestrated events to lead to this moment. Paimon confronts Rafael, revealing that the 'contaminating Blessing' within Rafael is a ticking time bomb. Paimon offers Rafael a choice: either her Blessing erupts and destroys the world, leading to Fisher's torment, or Paimon can absorb the Blessing, causing Rafael's soul to vanish but delaying annihilation and allowing Paimon to take Fisher to safety. Rafael chooses to sacrifice herself, allowing Paimon to take Fisher away and absorbing the Blessing into the black sludge, much to Agares's fury.
