The Royal Military Academy's Impostor Owns a Dungeon [BL] Chapter 1334: A Wild, Sinister Spring
Previously on The Royal Military Academy's Impostor Owns a Dungeon [BL]...
A pirate through and through, it wasn’t as though someone who’d spent so many years plundering whatever he could get his hands on hadn’t considered pocketing a bit of the contraband before!
He’d gotten especially good at snatching things right out from under his fellow pirates ever since that stupid reform led by those high-strung Ravagers had forcibly made its way into their perfectly fine crew.
Since then, he’d learned to be even more discreet and shit.
Though admittedly, he hadn’t needed to bother much lately. Those flimsy alliances had practically fallen apart the moment that pretentious crew lost their leader, and after everything nearly went up in flames, they’d somehow managed to land themselves a new client anyway.
All things considered, they weren’t exactly desperate for cash.
But if Jibb were being honest, that wasn’t the real reason he’d kept his hands off the contraband.
The problem was that the raw compounds they handled were supposedly lethal right up until the final stage of processing, and whatever secret step made the finished product safe enough to use wasn’t even something their crew was permitted to handle.
Something about trade secrets and checks and balances.
If Jibb could’ve taken even a little for himself, especially when he’d been standing so damn close to the product every single day, he wouldn’t have had to suffer like this!
Sure, there might’ve been some pain involved, but if he knew he’d survive, he’d gladly take the risk.
He’d finally have enough strength and influence to make sure no one could order him around the way they did now.
The more he thought about everything he could be missing out on, the more his grievances boiled inside his chest until he wanted to curse every last one of them up and down.
But just as he turned to storm away, his thoughts abruptly returned to the holding cells.
Jibb stopped mid-step.
More specifically...
That woman.
The one who hadn’t actually died from exposure.
Everyone else who’d started showing even the slightest symptoms eventually ended up dead. By the time someone looked sick enough not to wake up in terror when his crew came to drag them away for the next shift, ten times out of ten, it was because they’d already croaked.
And yet that woman had somehow recovered enough to cough and move again.
Which meant...
Did she have some sort of secret?
Maybe some kind of natural immunity?!
Jibb’s bloodshot eyes slowly widened.
If that was the case, then he wanted it too!
If he could somehow figure out what allowed that woman to survive the lethal effects of the raw compounds, wouldn’t that mean he could start using them himself?
And if he could tolerate something even the others couldn’t...
Wouldn’t he eventually become even stronger than every last one of those bastards?!
As for the possibility of the higher-ups discovering that some of the inventory had mysteriously gone missing afterward, that was even easier!
He’d simply point his finger at the captives and let them take the fall!
Wasn’t he some kind of absolute genius?!
And really, what better time could there possibly be to test such a brilliant idea than right now, when everyone had practically left him alone?!
On his way out, Jibb made a quick detour toward one of the supply cabinets and rummaged through the restraint supplies until he found what he was looking for.
Perfect.
He casually pocketed it before continuing on his way.
A wild, sinister spring suddenly entered Jibb’s step as he hurried down the corridor toward the cell block, his mind already racing through which test subjects he should start with.
Naturally, that miraculous woman would be his first candidate.
And then, just to make sure...
He’d take the ones most similar to her.
__
But what the flying fuck?!
How could such a simple plan possibly be this difficult to execute?!
These little runts were clinging to his body, biting, screaming, and scratching at him like they didn’t give a damn about their lives anymore!
Inside the dim, claustrophobic cell, absolute chaos had erupted.
The floor was littered with limp, bloodied, unconscious adults, all of them victims of the noxious gas Jibb had tossed inside. Fortunately, many of them had managed to cover the children’s faces before succumbing to it themselves.
A handful of weakened, groggy adults were still conscious enough to desperately shield the women Jibb had been trying to drag away, while one terrified survivor frantically shook an unresponsive companion, seemingly afraid they’d already fallen dead.
Driven to desperation, the crying children who could still move had practically thrown themselves at the pirate. They clung like glue to his back, legs, arms, and even his neck, mobbing him with frantic screams and tears as they tried to stop him from taking anyone away.
"Get off me, you filthy little brats!" Jibb roared, cursing them up and down as he violently tried to shake them loose. "Let go, or I swear I’ll kill every single one of you!"
Then, when one small girl tried to scratch at his neck, whatever remained of Jibb’s patience finally snapped.
He reached for his sidearm, fully prepared to shoot them all down right then and there.
He should’ve just done that from the beginning!
The only reason he hadn’t was because he’d needed his hands free to haul out his test subjects, and he certainly hadn’t wanted to waste time cleaning up all the blood afterward or, worse, explaining why even more bodies had gone missing during his shift.
But who the hell could’ve expected these fuckers to suddenly grow enough courage to oppose him?!
Didn’t they understand what they’d just signed themselves up for?!
Did they really think he’d let any of them off after this?!
With another furious roar, Jibb flung his arm straight upward, raising the heavy gun toward the ceiling as he tried to dislodge the girl clinging stubbornly to his shoulder.
He was already preparing to bring his arm down with enough force to send the brat flying when...
It wouldn’t move.
"??!"
Jibb froze.
The weapon was completely stuck in midair!
Already overwhelmed by the screaming baggage hanging from practically every part of his body, the pirate violently yanked his arm once, then twice.
Nothing.
"What the fuck?!"
Utterly bewildered, Jibb finally forced his gaze upward to see what the hell was holding the barrel of his gun in place.
His eyes widened.
The dumbfounded pirate immediately tried to turn around and find where it had come from.
He never got the chance.
The violent screech of metal being ripped free suddenly tore through the corridor!
Jibb instinctively flinched as the entire cell door was wrenched from its frame and hurled aside like a piece of unwanted trash. Dust and debris billowed through the opening, forcing him to squeeze his eyes shut against the sudden cloud.
Then, once the dust finally cleared enough for him to see...
Jibb opened his eyes.
And his pupils shrank to tiny pinpricks.
A pair of glowing, terrifyingly crimson eyes was staring directly back at him from only inches away.
They were the exact kind of eyes that would’ve haunted Jibb’s worst nightmares for the rest of his life.
Well...
Assuming he’d still be capable of having nightmares after this.
