Prince Eren is informed that the Imperial forces have compromised some surveillance channels, but he dismisses it as a minor setback. He discusses the ongoing experiments with his subordinate Bram, who confirms a "test subject" is still alive. Meanwhile, back at the Academy, the sudden loss of surveillance causes panic and suspicion. Luca and Xavier realize this disruption presents an opportunity, as Battalion 10 has amassed significant resources and powerful equipment, potentially allowing them to confront the terrorists.

It would’ve been far better if the answer to the question of who would end up screaming had simply been

Everyone screaming bloody murder while one Orc Princess bulldozed her way straight through the offending party would’ve been awfully convenient.

In fact, with Kira’s personality, that probably would’ve been her absolute favorite strategy!

If hitting them once didn’t work, then hitting them ten or twenty more times definitely would.

Things weren’t nearly that simple by the time they reached the section deep within the tunnels where the horrible stench and faint sounds of wailing had grown strongest.

The cadets who’d desperately sprinted after Kira were doing their best to catch their breath without making too much noise, several looking as though they were seconds away from coughing up a lung. Meanwhile, the Princess herself seemed perfectly fine physically.

Her expression, however, had become terrifyingly cold.

Well, who wouldn’t be snarling after confirming their absolute worst guess?!

Somewhere behind the thick wall of concrete and jagged rock in front of them was the unmistakable scent of people.

And not the kind that soothed the nose or spoke of someone who’d spent their day basking beneath the sun, with at least some access to water and soap.

No.

This was the foul, suffocating kind that trapped body odor, stale breath, unwashed skin, and worse... blood.

If she were to put all those signs together, then whatever was hidden behind that wall had to be some kind of prison.

Or, at the very least, a cage.

One holding a considerable number of people, judging by how nauseatingly overwhelming the smell was to someone with a nose as sensitive as hers.

That created a rather large problem for her original, wonderfully uncomplicated plan of simply busting through the wall and saying "boo!"

Now she actually needed to think about logistics.

Ada would’ve been so proud.

Because if Kira went blasting through the wall right here, there was a very real possibility that the resulting explosion alone would send some of those captives straight to the afterlife.

Those people might already be in grave danger, but after one sufficiently reckless Orc Princess came crashing through the ceiling or wall, they might end up dying far earlier than they were originally slated to!

Worse, Kira still had no idea exactly who was being held inside or why.

If those people had been restrained for a legitimate reason, blindly setting everyone free could put the cadets accompanying her in immediate danger.

Dealing with the Caldris Hostiles or rival student battalions had been one thing.

Dealing with actual terrorists they knew almost nothing about was an entirely different problem.

Thus, with gritted teeth and her jaw clenched tightly enough to hurt, Princess Kira reluctantly decided to try a different yet familiar tactic.

Hopefully, those little toothpicks inside could hang on just a little longer.

__

Hanging on was actually quite literal at that moment, as one child latching onto a monster of a man quickly became several, all because one deranged pirate had suddenly decided he’d found his ticket out of that hellhole!

At first, Jibb had simply found the woman’s condition extremely unusual.

He’d stared at her with the cold, detached curiosity of someone wondering whether a strange creature would bleed blue or red if they cut it open.

Yet as though the woman were repeatedly being saved by fate itself, one of his crewmates had called him away before he could investigate any further, forcing Jibb to abandon that particular train of thought with an irritated huff.

Perhaps it would’ve been better for the captives if he’d gotten to have his fun earlier.

Because after the meeting he’d just been forced to attend, Jibb wasn’t feeling nearly as patient.

The whole thing had been one massive shit show!

"You’re staying behind," the calm pirate, a long-time member of his original crew, informed him in a sharp, completely no-nonsense tone. "Make sure production runs smoothly without a single hiccup. We’ve just been handed an order we can’t ignore."

"What?! Just me?!" Jibb spat, his face immediately contorting in outrage.

What was there even to do on this stupid, desolate planet anyway? Besides, hadn’t those pompous reinforcements been sent here for a reason?! If they were already here to handle whatever was going on, why the hell did the rest of them have to be deployed too?

In that case, he might as well treat this as a vacation from all the nagging they kept hurling at him.

Thus, Jibb had already been preparing to demand something suitably lavish in exchange for being left behind to handle all the grunt work when the others suddenly began pulling out an unbelievable array of high-grade equipment.

"!!!"

His eyes nearly popped out of his skull.

That wasn’t the equipment for some standard critical mission!

No. Not even for the most dangerous gigs would they ever be given something like that.

But here, of all places?

These bastards were practically being handed a full-fledged promotion on a silver platter!

Well...

Everyone except

Where the hell had all those high-end weapons and mecha suits even come from?! And why hadn’t he known a single thing about any of it when they were supposedly part of the exact same crew?!

No one gave him a proper answer.

They simply shrugged him off, carelessly claiming they didn’t know anything either and were only following orders.

Absolute bullshit!

Yet somehow, even that wasn’t the part that stung the most.

Because as Jibb watched them prepare to leave, he realized that everyone else was also getting a chance to use the final version of the product they’d been manufacturing!

Not the semi-finished version that usually left their crew’s hands.

The version.

The same absurdly expensive product bought by those stinking-rich sons of a gun, capable of massively boosting the user’s spiritual abilities!

Everyone else was going to get stronger.

Meanwhile, who’d done nothing but sacrifice for this damned crew, was being unfairly punished by getting left behind to herd a bunch of filthy workers?!

On what planet was that fair?!

How could get a shot at something like that when Jibb couldn’t even sneak a single swipe of the goods they manufactured every damn day?
