"Dark..."
Nolan opened his eyes, only to find himself surrounded by darkness. He couldn't even see his own hands.
Yet, he didn't show the slightest bit of fear.
Whoosh!
A light suddenly appeared in front of him. It grew brighter and bigger until it turned into a huge screen, almost like a movie theater screen.
Then, Nolan saw his eight-year-old self standing beside a five-year-old girl.
"Hey, Seira, don't you have any friends? Why do you always stick with me?"
The Nolan on the screen asked, sounding annoyed.
Little Seira giggled as she held tightly onto his left hand.
"So what? You're my friend, and we're supposed to be together, aren't we?"
"Still…"
Nolan was about to say something, but Seira suddenly leaned over and kissed him on the cheek.
The Nolan on the screen immediately turned as red as a tomato.
"W-What are you doing?" he asked in a panic, quickly backing away.
Seira giggled, though her face turned red as well.
"I kissed you. Is that wrong?"
"N-No, that's not it!" Nolan stomped his foot, embarrassed. "It's just… that was way too sudden, you know!? You can't just kiss someone without asking first! That's basically a crime!"
"Huh!? B-But I see my mom kiss my dad all the time," Seira said hesitantly. "She said I could kiss you, too."
She lowered her head, looking sad and dejected.
The Nolan on the screen fell silent. He couldn't understand why Seira's mother would teach her daughter something like that.
"Even so, don't do it again, okay? You should only do that to someone you love."
"All right…"
Seira sighed reluctantly, but she obediently nodded.
Nolan's smile returned as he clasped Seira's right hand.
"Let's go."
The scene suddenly turned to smoke and vanished. The room went dark once again.
Nolan stood in silence, his expression unchanged.
It was a memory of him and Seira from when they were kids. He had completely forgotten about it, but he still vaguely remembered Seira kissing him back then.
Whoosh!
Another scene appeared.
This time, it showed Nolan shortly after he had started his third year of high school.
As the heir to the Frey family, Nolan naturally attended a prestigious private school with international standards.
In the scene, he was surrounded by his classmates, most of whom were girls.
"Nolan, can you help me with this math problem?"
The girl who asked was a beautiful young girl with short blonde hair.
She was petite, but she had a slender and lovely figure. Many of the boys looked at Nolan with envy, but none of them dared to challenge him openly.
Nolan, who had been playing with his phone, glanced at the girl before shaking his head.
"No. Ask someone else."
Without waiting for her response, Nolan stood up and walked away.
The girl simply stood there, looking dazed.
A moment later, tears began to well up in the corners of her eyes. She turned around and walked away, sobbing uncontrollably.
Seeing this, everyone could only let out a long sigh.
"Even Eriri from the Refard family got rejected by him! As expected of the Demon King—he really is the embodiment of a womanizer!" a bespectacled boy commented.
The others nodded in agreement.
Nolan, who had witnessed the scene, suddenly smiled sheepishly.
"The Demon King, huh? It's been a long time since I've heard that nickname."
Back when he was still in school, Nolan often attracted attention from the girls around him.
Even the most popular girls, the ones all the boys thought were basically goddesses, got rejected by him too.
Even so, his rejections didn't make everyone at school hate him. Instead, they only made the students admire him even more.
The scene then shifted to Seira's classroom.
Seira, who had been casually chatting with her friends, was startled when Nolan suddenly showed up.
"Hey, your prince is here!" the girl sitting beside Seira teased.
Seira's face immediately flushed.
"I'm leaving now."
She hurried out of the classroom and pulled Nolan away.
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming?" she asked shyly.
Nolan chuckled. He interlaced his fingers with Seira's and replied casually, "Why not? Don't you like it when I come to see you?"
"It's not like that."
Seira quickly explained, "I'm just embarrassed. My friends are always teasing me."
"It's okay. Besides, we're childhood friends. Everyone already knows that."
Seira puffed out her cheeks. Her gaze unconsciously fell on their intertwined hands.
"Do childhood friends really have to hold hands?" she complained inwardly.
But instead of letting go, she tightened her grip and rested her head on Nolan's shoulder with a sweet smile.
The scene turned to smoke and vanished.
Nolan's smile returned. His memories of spending time with Seira during senior high school were something he would never forget.
Whoosh!
The scene shifted again.
This time, it showed Nolan in his office.
He was busy working when he suddenly heard a knock at the door.
Knock! Knock!
Nolan stopped what he was doing. His eyebrows furrowed as he looked up.
"Didn't I tell you not to disturb me while I'm working?" he asked coldly.
"It's me, Seira. Can I come in?"
Nolan's annoyed expression instantly stiffened. He cleared his throat before answering in a much softer voice.
"Come in. The door isn't locked."
Clack!
The door opened, revealing Seira in a beautiful casual dress.
"Am I bothering you?"
Nolan shook his head.
"No. Come in."
Seira closed the door and walked over to him.
"I brought you lunch."
She held up a cloth bag containing two lunch boxes and gave him a sweet smile.
"How about we eat together?"
Nolan smiled softly.
"Sure."
The two of them sat down on the sofas in the middle of the room and had lunch together.
As they ate, they chatted about all sorts of little things, from their daily lives to funny memories from their high school and college days.
Everything was going as usual until Seira suddenly brought up an unexpected topic.
"By the way, our parents have been talking about an engagement."
"Oh? When?"
Seira's face turned as red as a tomato.
"Next week. The engagement party will be held at the Flores Hotel."
"So that's how it is…"
Nolan simply nodded, his expression calm.
Seira nervously bit her lower lip.
"Why do you look so different? Are you… not happy?"
Nolan looked surprised for a moment before bursting out laughing.
"What are you talking about? Of course I'm happy."
He gently stroked her cheek.
"I was just thinking about something. Don't get the wrong idea."
Seira let out a sigh of relief and patted her chest.
"I thought you hated it. Thank goodness you don't."
The two of them continued talking about their engagement and their future together.
Nolan watched it all with a blank expression. He still remembered that scene clearly. It had been one of the happiest moments of his life.
Scene after scene continued to change. Nolan didn't know why the goddess was showing him all these memories, but he continued watching in silence.
Finally, the scene shifted to something that made his heart race.
It was the moment when he had the accident…
