Boom!
The lightning trident exploded with incredible force. Thousands of lightning bolts shot out in every direction, scorching the grass and tearing up the ground.
Luckily, the soldiers on the battlefield were far enough away to escape the blast.
Even so, the deafening explosion and powerful shockwave were enough to make both sides stop fighting.
Evalyn squeezed her eyes shut, trembling all over.
But strangely, the pain she had been expecting never came.
She slowly opened her eyes and looked up. The moment she saw what was behind her, she froze.
A two-meter-tall figure floated behind her, dressed in a black cloak and wearing a demon mask. It had no legs, and its body was slightly transparent, making it look like some kind of ghost.
"W-What's going on?" she muttered, staring at the figure in confusion.
But the avatar didn't answer. Black and white smoke billowed from its body as it slowly raised its head and stared straight ahead.
A purple flash flickered in its eyes, as though it were gazing at something in the distance.
…
"F-Failed?"
The Singularity of Light was stunned. He stared at the sword in his hand in disbelief.
Suddenly…
Boom!
A mysterious attack struck him out of nowhere, sending him flying into a pillar and shattering it on impact.
Debris rained down around him.
Boom!
A flash of light burst from the rubble, revealing the figure of the Singularity of Light.
"W-Who… Who attacked me!?" he roared.
His voice boomed throughout the hall, shaking the entire structure.
A faint, terrifying golden glow emanated from his eyes.
But the moment he looked straight ahead, his body stiffened.
"T-The Singularity of Chaos…!? How is this possible!?"
Even though they were separated by an immense distance, he could still see the man's figure. More precisely, he could see his avatar.
His heart pounded as rage surged through him.
"How dare you!?"
Boom!
Golden light burst from his body, shooting into the sky and tearing it apart.
The sky above the imperial capital suddenly darkened. Golden and black lightning flashed one after another, accompanied by earth-shaking explosions.
People who had been out shopping or working were startled by the sudden change.
They quickly gathered together, fear written all over their faces.
"What's happening!? Is that disaster going to happen again!?" an elderly woman cried out in panic.
Her words only made the people around her even more anxious.
Their bodies trembled as memories of the past came flooding back.
That night, a gigantic eye had appeared in the sky above Halveran City, marking the beginning of a terrible catastrophe that wiped the entire city off the map.
Fortunately, they had survived. But even now, the memory of that night still haunted them.
And now, the sky was once again thrown into chaos, making it feel like the apocalypse was about to strike all over again.
They hurriedly clasped their hands together and prayed to Luminel, the Goddess of Light, begging her to save them from whatever disaster was coming.
Meanwhile, panic had also spread throughout the imperial palace.
Dariel, Rebecca, Erald, and the ministers hurried out into the palace courtyard.
The moment they saw the blinding golden light piercing the sky, their faces turned pale.
"What's happening!? Why is Father unleashing his full power!? Could we be under attack!?" Dariel cried out in panic.
Rebecca and Erald trembled with fear. It had been a long time since they had last seen their grandfather this angry.
The last time had been when the Singularity of Chaos destroyed Halveran in a single night.
"F-Father, what should we do?" Rebecca asked nervously.
Dariel narrowed his eyes.
He knew his father better than anyone. There was no way the man would be this furious unless something had really pissed him off.
But what could it be?
An enemy attack?
No, that was impossible. He hadn't received any reports since then. And even if someone had attacked, who would be stupid enough to attack Halveran so openly, aside from the Singularity of Chaos?
Even that seemed unlikely. The Singularities were forbidden from fighting one another.
Suddenly, Dariel thought of Elyan, his father's disciple. If anything could make his father this furious, it had to be something related to Elyan.
After all, Elyan wasn't just his father's only disciple. He was also the heir apparent to the title of Singularity of Light.
'Could he have died on the battlefield?'
Dariel's breath caught in his throat, and his face grew even paler.
That was the most likely explanation.
'B-But how is that possible? Who could have killed him?'
Elyan was incredibly powerful.
Although his strength was still far below that of the Singularity of Light, he was considered one of the most powerful figures in the empire.
And now, he had likely fallen on the battlefield. There must have been an unexpected and formidable opponent among the forces of the Great Velmora Empire.
Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Dariel gently patted Rebecca on the head.
"There's nothing we can do. Let's just hope your grandfather doesn't lose control and end up harming Halveran."
His vague response only made Rebecca, Erald, and the ministers even more frightened.
They exchanged anxious glances, each seeing the fear reflected in the others' eyes.
...
"Hmmm…"
Nolan hummed softly as he made himself a cup of hot tea.
Once he was done, he walked over to the window of his inn room and gazed at the beautiful view of Drakhar City.
"Just as expected of a city that has stood for thousands of years. Truly amazing," he murmured.
Neither Solvaria nor Halveran could compare to Drakhar.
But that was hardly surprising. The two empires were much younger than the Celestial Empire of Velgranth, with a difference of more than three thousand years in their histories.
The Great Velmora Empire had been founded only a thousand years ago, while the Holy Valtanir Empire was a mere eight hundred years old.
Just as Nolan was relaxing, his eyes suddenly widened slightly.
"The safety token I left with Evalyn has been activated. Who's bold enough to attack her?"
He closed his eyes, and his consciousness instantly shifted to the battlefield on the Corvil Plains.
"The Singularity of Light?"
Nolan was slightly taken aback before letting out a cold chuckle.
"What does that old man think he's doing? Could he be trying to start a war with me?"
He rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"If that's the case… Hmmm, all right. As it happens, I haven't had a proper workout in a week. You've come at just the right time, old man!"
He licked his upper lip, a hint of excitement flashing in his eyes.
