As he was observing everyone’s progress, his senses picked up on something and shifted toward it.
There in the distance, the golden dome of the [Divine Sanctum] had appeared above the human camp.
“So they succeeded, huh.”
A faint smile crossed his lips.
“I wonder if Karina was able to confront the turmoil in her heart?”
He knew the battle waiting for her would be more than a simple fight. For someone who had spent years carrying the scars left by the Organization, meeting Victor Voss again could have easily reopened wounds she had buried.
Yet Reinhardt trusted her. He had always believed that she possessed the strength to overcome it.
His senses swept across the distant camp. He could feel Vanessa’s power. The change in Karina’s aura. The bravely fighting knights.
“You all really did it.”
His attention then shifted toward the many other familiar auras around him.
Leona, Erza, Brutus, Kevin, Vangeance, Silvia. Everyone was still fighting.
Reinhardt too wanted to join them and finish this war as soon as possible. However, he held back.
Right now, he needed to watch for the…
BOOOOOOM…
His vigilance was disturbed by a sudden tremble. The ground on the far side of the demonic camp violently erupted. Large fissures appeared on the ground, mountains collapsed, and the earth bulged upward like something enormous was trying to force its way out.
ROOARRR…
Along with the terrible earthquake came the roars.
Then…
CRACK…
A colossal body burst from beneath the ground. The shockwave it released swept across the battlefield, burying everything underneath the dirt.
Reinhardt, who was keeping an eye on the situation, immediately turned toward the disturbance.
With the earth splitting more and more, movement could be sensed underneath the ground.
One… Two. Three… Seven… Eight…
“Not bad…”
Eight gigantic entities emerged from beneath the earth. Each one was different from the other. Nevertheless, they were all Abyss Nests.
One resembled a colossal larva covered in layers of armored flesh. Another looked like an enormous mass of organs and tendrils. The other Nests were equally horrifying. Each one enormous enough to make fortresses look like toys.
The ground itself seemed to groan beneath their weight. The air filled with their grotesque cries.
And from every single one, demons began crawling out. Hundreds, thousands, then tens of thousands.
What makes Abyss Nests so terrifying is their ability to spawn countless demons over time. No matter how many demons you killed, no matter how much advantage you managed to gain on the battlefield, all this meant nothing before these terrifying Abominations.
So when you wage a war with the demons, who do you take out first?
Of course, it’s these buggers.
Looking at the Abyss Nests crawling out of the ground one after another, Reinhardt’s expression slowly turned into a fierce grin.
“Can’t hold on anymore, huh?”
So that was the reason. Eight Abyss Nests. No wonder the number of demons never seemed to decrease. No matter how many were slaughtered… the Nests simply replaced them.
“Is this all of them?”
Reinhardt’s gaze swept across the battlefield.
“In that case…”
He raised one hand.
The atmosphere around him immediately changed. A vast amount of divine energy began gathering above him. The dark clouds parted, and the sky brightened.
Like the advent of a new day, a miniature sun appeared overhead. Golden light illuminated the world like the radiance of the sun.
Reinhardt, standing high up in the sky, waved his hand.
“[Lightforge Ascension].”
Immediately, the sun began churning. The radiant mass condensed, then split.
One… two… Four… eight…
Eight colossal swords of pure divine light appeared in the heavens. Each blade was enormous and carried enough divine power to obliterate a mountain.
The eight Abyss Nests had emerged together. They had finally exposed themselves. And Reinhardt had been waiting for precisely this moment.
He slowly lowered his hand.
The eight divine swords tilted downward and rushed toward the Eight Nests all at once.
The reason Abyss Nests were so troublesome was not simply because of their enormous size. It was because their defense was monstrous.
The hides of these Abominations were so dense and durable that ordinary attacks were almost meaningless against them. Even powerful skills often struggled to pierce through their flesh, while their bodies constantly leaked tremendous amounts of demonic energy that further reinforced their defenses.
And even if someone somehow managed to injure them, they regenerated terrifyingly fast.
As long as an Abyss Nest remained alive, even with grave wounds, it could continue spawning demons and sustaining the battlefield with an endless supply of reinforcements.
That was why eliminating them was such a nightmare. Leave even one behind… and the battle could become a prolonged war of attrition.
Reinhardt had no intention of allowing such a scenario to pass. Which was precisely why he was waiting here for them to show up.
Now they showed themselves. All eight of them.
There is no way he would let this opportunity go.
Reinhardt stared down at the colossal monstrosities.
“I wonder what kind of expression the demons would show after they see all their trump cards getting destroyed all at once.”
He snapped his fingers, and another sun appeared in the sky.
When the eight swords of divine light pierced the Abyss Nests, another eight formed in the sky and struck the Abyss Nests a second time. Then the third. And then again and again and again…
What was he doing?
Well, of course, he was spamming.
[Lightforge Ascension] x10…
He acknowledged that the Abyss Nests possessed incredible vitality. These things were not like the juvenile Abyss Nest that he encountered back in the kingdom of Lunaris. That one had yet to fully form and was in its most vulnerable state.
But these ones were different. They were adult Abyss Nests possessing an absurd amount of defense and regeneration.
For Reinhardt, if one skill alone was not enough to bring down the enemy, then spam it a few more times.
The demons on the ground had barely begun reacting when another series of golden swords appeared above them.
Huge light swords descended from the sky. Then another eight formed. And another. And another.
Again and again and again.
An incredible scene appeared in the Tainted Lands. The land which hadn’t seen sunlight for over a thousand years was suddenly illuminated like the dawn of a day.
KIEEE…
The Abyss Nests roared as their gigantic bodies were repeatedly pierced. Sword after sword.
Before long, the enormous bodies became covered in golden blades until the eight Abominations looked like grotesque hedgehogs.
“W-What’s going on?!”
The Demon Generals fighting the knights stared upward in disbelief.
Before anyone could finish processing the sudden shower of golden swords, something incredible happened.
The Abyss Nests began swelling. Their enormous bodies expanded at an abnormal speed. They grew several times their original size.
It was like seeing a balloon being filled.
Why a balloon?
Pffftt…
The skin and flesh of the Abyss Nests began tearing open with golden light leaking through them.
While this happened, they still continued to expand until they reached a critical mass.
The colossal bodies of the Abyss Nests became even more colossal.
And then… there was no “then.”
“Oh no.”
The Demon Generals’ expressions changed. One of them hurriedly stepped backward.
“Get away!”
The warning came too late.
BOOOOOOOOOOM…
Eight gigantic pillars of golden light erupted simultaneously. They rose into the heavens like eight divine columns supporting the sky itself.
The earth trembled, and the clouds were blasted apart. The demonic energy covering the battlefield vanished beneath the overwhelming radiance.
The Abyss Nests did not even have the time to scream. Their gigantic bodies began breaking apart.
Flesh, bone, demonic energy. Everything was reduced to particles beneath Reinhardt’s divine power.
Packed within those swords was a terrifying amount of divine energy. It was no surprise the eight Abyss Nests disappeared completely.
From the moment they emerged to the moment they were erased, hardly a minute had passed.
The demons stared in stunned silence. Nobody understood what had just happened.
No, even if they understood, making sense of it was another thing.
The creatures that could destroy a country all on their own were gone. All eight of them.
While the demons were shocked, the humans on the other hand were delighted.
“The Abyss Nests are gone!”
“We actually destroyed them!”
The morale of the Dawnbringers exploded.
Erza looked toward the sky. A faint smile appeared on her aloof face.
“So he really did it.”
Leona sighed a breath of relief. She wasn’t surprised. Having fought beside Reinhardt for so long, she had learned not to underestimate his ideas.
Silvia, Gwen, and the others cheered loudly.
“Hahaha! That’s our Commander!”
Kevin laughed loudly.
Vangeance grinned ferociously.
“Now that’s more like it.”
Brutus threw his head back and laughed.
“Hahaha… He defeated all those Abyss Nests at the same time? Talk about being flashy!”
All across the battlefield, the knights cheered loudly, their morale soaring.
As for the demons, they could only stare at the empty area where the Abyss Nests previously stood.
