The Ambrose Family faces ruin if the Empire divides, unlike the other three powerful families who can adapt their specialized skills. Pentos, tasked with protecting the Ambrose treasure, is summoned by Ethan. Marked by a Soul Stamp, Pentos understands he is now a pawn and must provide intelligence on the major families, fearing his situation is about to change drastically.

At the dead of night, Pentos quietly slipped away from the Ambrose estate.

He had waited until the guards changed shifts before moving. He avoided the main paths and used the darker corners of the estate to escape the surveillance. Every few steps, he stopped and looked around to make sure nobody had noticed him.

After leaving the estate, he continued through the quiet streets until he finally reached a small building outside the radius of the town.

The building looked ordinary from the outside, but the moment Pentos entered, he understood that it was anything but ordinary.

Several guards were stationed inside. They were dressed in dark clothes, and each one remained alert as they watched him enter.

One of them stepped forward and silently led Pentos deeper into the building.

Pentos followed without saying anything.

His heart was beating faster than usual. He already knew who was waiting for him.

The guard finally opened the door and stepped aside.

Pentos entered the room.

Inside, he saw two familiar figures.

A white-haired man was sitting calmly at the center of the room, while a red-haired woman sat nearby.

The moment Pentos saw them, he immediately lowered his head and bowed.

"My Lord."

He then turned toward the woman and bowed again.

"My Lady."

Ethan looked at him for a moment.

He carefully observed Pentos's expression before a faint smile appeared on his face.

"So Pentos...It has been quite long hasn't it?"

Pentos bowed a little deeper after hearing his words.

"Yes, My Lord. It's been quite long. I hope you have been doing well."

"Certainly!" Ethan spoke with a calm expression, but his lips twitched inwardly.

'Nothing is going well right now. I am just being dragged around here and there.'

He looked at Pentos again and gestured toward the empty seat.

"Sit."

Pentos hesitated for a moment before carefully taking the seat.

He did not dare to relax.

He knew that being summoned by Ethan at this time could not be a simple matter.

"So you are Pentos Ambrose!"

A cold voice suddenly echoed through the room.

Pentos raised his chin and looked toward Rina.

The moment his gaze met hers, he felt a strange pressure. It was not just the strength behind her gaze.

There was something deeper in it that made him feel as if he were being stared down by a predator.

'What's going on? I don't remember offending her in any way.'

Pentos quickly lowered his gaze again.

After thinking for a moment, he cautiously asked,

"My Lady, did I displease you somehow?"

Rina, who was sitting at the table, slowly rotated the circular paperweight between her fingers.

"You didn't. However, your family surely did?"

Pentos's brows drew together.

He had already expected that something was wrong, but he had not expected this.

"What do you mean?"

Rina's fingers stopped moving.

"Your family wiped out mine."

Shissh!

Pentos swallowed hard.

For a moment, his entire body became tense.

He was terrified.

He knew exactly what Rina meant.

Destroying families and merchant groups was something the Ambrose Family did quite often. Anyone who possessed even a small threat to their interests could be taken down swiftly.

The Ambrose Family had survived for generations by making sure that no one who could threaten them was allowed to grow.

If not for the strength of the Blanks and their careful tactics, they might have already tried to deal with them as well.

Aside from their business ideas, the Blanks also had strong backing, which made it difficult for Ambrose to move against them.

On top of that, most of the businesses the Blanks were involved in did not pose a direct threat to Ambrose. The garment business was one of the few exceptions, and even there, Ambrose had tried to fight them but failed.

The war between the two sides had been going on for almost decades. If not for the war, they might have already faced the Blanks directly, and the scene would have been bloody.

Pentos slowly lowered his head.

He knew there was no point trying to defend his family in front of Ethan.

"My Lord...What do you want me to do?"

Ethan remained silent for a moment before looking toward Rina.

"Didn't I say?"

Rina glanced at him.

"He is a clever person and knows when to bend. He would surely be useful."

Pentos remained still.

He understood what those words meant.

Ethan had not summoned him here to punish him.

He had summoned him because he wanted to use him.

Rina did not comment on Ethan's words. Instead, she looked directly at Pentos.

"Ambrose..."

Her voice became colder.

"I want them gone."

The words struck Pentos's ears like thunder.

His pupils contracted, and his body stiffened in his chair.

For a moment, he could not even breathe properly.

He had expected Ethan to ask for information.

He had expected him to ask about the Ambrose Family's forces, businesses or connections.

But this was completely different.

"I want them gone."

Those words kept repeating inside Pentos's mind.

He slowly clenched his hands beneath the table.

The Ambrose Family had existed for centuries.

And now, Ethan wanted him to help bring it down.

Rina's expression remained cold as she looked directly at Pentos. Her fingers stopped moving, and the room became quiet for a moment.

"Ambrose should be gone. Kill them and leave nothing behind. All the things they have been hoarding should be stripped and taken away from them."

Pentos's face became pale.

He had expected something severe, but hearing it said so directly still made his heart sink. The Ambrose Family was not a small clan that could simply be removed overnight. There were countless members spread across different places, along with branches, merchants and people who depended on them.

Pentos took a slow breath and carefully chose his words.

"The Ambrose is a large clan... Wiping everyone out won't be easy."

Rina looked at him without changing her expression.

"I know."

Her voice remained calm, but there was no hesitation in it.

"I want all those scheming people to be struck down, after which I want you to lead the remaining ones out."

Pentos raised his eyes slightly.

Rina continued while keeping her gaze fixed on him.

"I don't want to see the Ambrose name again. You can start anew or do as you wish. Snatch Ambrose glory or write your own legend, but I want the legacy of Ambrose gone."

Pentos remained silent.

His fingers slowly tightened against his knees.

'Start anew.'
