Path To Godhood Begins With Marrying Wife And Gaining SSS Rank Skill Chapter 775:Pentos Struggle

Among the four great families, the one that stood to suffer the greatest loss from the division of the Empire was none other than the Ambrose Family.
The other three families had foundations that could survive even if the Empire was divided. The Halcrest Family was known for its healing abilities, while the Cravik Family was famous for its swordsmen. The Devine Family had a strong foundation in magic and magical research. Their skills were valuable in almost every region, so even if the Empire was split, they could rebuild their influence under a different ruler.
Ambrose was different.
The greatest strength of the Ambrose Family was its financial capital. Their influence had been built through businesses, trade routes, banks, merchants and countless other deals spread throughout the Empire. In fact, the other three families depended heavily on Ambrose for many of their businesses and secret dealings.
If the Empire was divided, those connections would be broken.
The merchants who once moved freely across the Empire would suddenly have to deal with different rulers. Trade routes would be controlled by different powers, and the old agreements that had taken centuries to establish might become useless overnight.
The other families could survive.
Ambrose might lose almost everything.
That was why the Ambrose Family had not been eager to drag the matter any further. They understood that the four Emperors had little reason to preserve their old influence.
However, Ambrose was not completely helpless.
If they were pushed too far, they could fan the flames and create trouble throughout the remaining regions to protect themselves. They had enough money and connections to make things difficult for anyone trying to erase them.
Building new channels would also be a huge hassle for the other families. Their current networks had been built over generations, and replacing them would take both time and resources.
There was another problem.
The deeds of these families were not exactly clean.
The Devine Family had conducted extensive research into the use of magic, and many of their experiments required human subjects. A large number of slaves had been purchased through Ambrose and secretly delivered to the Devine Family.
Some of those slaves had disappeared into hidden laboratories and never returned.
The experiments carried out there were enough to make even hardened people uncomfortable.
Because of this, Ambrose could not simply assume that the other families would protect them. If the Emperors decided to investigate everything after taking control of the territory, the four families could find themselves facing much bigger problems.
For that reason, everyone in Ambrose had been extremely busy.
Documents were being moved. Treasures were being relocated, and secret accounts were being checked. Some important members had already prepared escape routes in case the situation suddenly became impossible to control.
They did not know what would happen next, so they were preparing for every possibility.
Among all of them, Pentos was responsible for looking after the family's treasure.
He spent most of his time inside a heavily protected storage facility beneath the Ambrose estate. Several guards stood outside the entrance, while inside, people continuously checked the records and counted the family's remaining wealth.
The last theft inside Ambrose had caused significant losses. However, it had not been enough to seriously damage the foundation of the family.
Pentos had also managed to escape from that incident without suffering any serious consequences. Since then, he had quietly continued building his own forces while keeping a low profile.
He had learned one thing from that incident.
It was always better to have people who would follow him even if the family collapsed.
That evening, Pentos was walking through one of the storage halls while checking a report when a servant hurried toward him.
The man stopped a few steps away and bowed.
"The Liege wants to meet you."
Pentos stopped walking.
He looked at the servant for a moment before folding the report in his hand.
However, he already knew who this person belonged to.
This was none other than a member of Black Thorn, the hidden force under Ethan's secret group.
Pentos had already been marked with a Soul Stamp, which meant that he had effectively become a slave.
When Ethan had attacked Pentos, he thought he would be killed for real. The person Pentos had sent after Ethan had been turned into a soulless slave, and Pentos believed the same fate would soon come for him.
Thankfully, Ethan had not done that.
Instead, he had simply turned Pentos into a slave. After that, Ethan had not bothered him at all and had allowed him to continue handling his position and tasks within the Ambrose Family.
Pentos had initially been relieved.
But now, as he looked at the servant standing before him, he finally understood that his time to be used as a pawn had come.
Fear slowly appeared in his eyes.
He did not know what Ethan wanted from him, and he did not know what would happen after he entered that meeting.
He did not want to agree.
He did not want to get involved.
But did he have an option?
Pentos lowered his eyes and silently clenched his hand.
He wanted to live.
Just like everyone else.
"When?"
The servant answered without changing his expression.
"Tonight!"
Pentos's expression became slightly serious.
He had not expected the Liege to summon him so suddenly. He stood there for a few moments, thinking about what he should do, but there was no real choice in front of him.
After a moment, he nodded.
"I will be there."
The servant bowed again but did not leave immediately.
Pentos noticed this and raised an eyebrow.
"What else?"
The servant lowered his voice.
"Also, bring the intelligence you know about the major families."
Pentos's expression changed slightly.
He understood that this meeting was probably more important than he had first thought.
The Liege was not asking him to come empty-handed.
He wanted information.
Pentos slowly nodded.
"I will."
The servant bowed once more and left.
Pentos watched him disappear down the corridor.
His expression remained serious.
The moment the footsteps faded, he slowly looked down at the report in his hand.
He had survived the last incident.
He had survived Ethan.
He had even managed to keep his position within the Ambrose Family.
But now, he had a feeling that things were about to change again.
Pentos quietly exhaled and turned toward the storage hall.
He needed to prepare everything before tonight.
After all, Pentos wanted to live. And as long as he had no choice, he would do whatever was necessary to survive.
