The four ancient families face a crisis as the Empire is set to be divided. They debate between surrendering to the Emperors to preserve their influence or carving out an independent territory to fight for survival. Their immediate plan is to contact the Emperors and make their desire to remain neutral known, while also considering the unpredictable influence of Ethan Blanks. Meanwhile, Crown Princess Elena and Prince Charles find themselves under strict watch in the palace, with Charles lamenting the greed that led to their downfall.

Charles slowly turned his head and looked at his mother.

Elena was sitting on the ground with her back against the side of the bed. She had wrapped her arms around her knees, and her once elegant appearance had become haggard. Her hair was slightly messy, and her face looked tired from the countless days of fear and crying.

Her eyes had lost most of their light.

They looked bleak and lifeless, but there was still something remaining inside them.

A small will to live.

Not for herself but for her son.

Elena remained silent for a moment as she watched Charles. Then she slowly raised her head.

"Charles.."

"Yes mother."

Charles immediately moved toward her and kneeled before her. His anger disappeared when he saw her exhausted expression.

Elena reached out and gently grabbed his shoulder.

"Do you want to live?"

Charles looked at her with a firm expression.

"Of course mother..Don’t worry,I will make sure to get us alive."

Elena shook her head slowly.

"I think I have a way to survive, but once we escape, we might have to let go of our identity. As for the matter of comeback, we can’t remain as Royal."

Charles froze for a moment. He understood what she meant. If they wanted to escape, they could no longer live as members of the Royal Family. Their identities would have to disappear, and they would have to live as ordinary people.

"It’s okay. Being alive is good. That’s all that matters."

He lowered his gaze for a moment before looking back at her. There was no hesitation in his voice this time, although the thought of abandoning everything he had known was not easy for him.

"As for the throne. I am sick of it, but do you have a way."

Elena remained quiet for a moment. Her expression was tired, but her eyes still held a faint determination.

"Is there a hidden force behind us?"

She shook her head.

"I was selected for Crown Princess because I don’t have support capable of influencing. Your father’s position on the throne was secured, so he just needed someone to give birth to his children."

Charles slowly frowned. He had expected there to be some hidden support behind his mother, but hearing that there was none made the situation feel even more hopeless.

"Then?"

Elena looked directly into his eyes.

"I have a way to contact Lord Ethan."

"Lord Ethan?" Charles frowned for a moment. The name immediately brought back memories of everything that had happened.

"Mother, did you forget what has happened? I don’t think he will help us, rather he might kill us."

His voice carried doubt and fear. Ethan had been declared a traitor by the Empire, and their family had been involved in the conflict with him. Charles could not understand why someone like Ethan would help them now. He looked at his mother with uncertainty as he waited for her answer.

Elena, however, remained calm.

"Lord Ethan is a righteous individual. We didn’t partake in any evil, so there might be a chance. And even if it isn’t, we should give it a try."

Her voice was weak, but there was determination in her eyes. She had already lost almost everything. She could not afford to give up the last chance she had to protect her son.

Charles looked at his mother for a long moment before slowly nodding.

"But how?"

Elena lowered her voice and glanced toward the closed door before answering.

"It’s the dealer who makes my dress. I might be able to contact him."

Charles’s eyes widened slightly.

"The person who makes your dresses?"

Elena nodded.

"Yes...He has worked for me for many years, and there should be a way to reach him without alerting the guards."

Charles slowly looked toward the closed door. The guards were still standing outside, and neither of them knew how long they had before the people controlling the palace discovered their plan.

He took a slow breath and looked back at his mother.

"Then let’s try."

Elena gently squeezed his shoulder. Her hand trembled slightly, but she quickly steadied it.

"We only need one chance."

Charles nodded. For the first time in many days, a faint trace of hope appeared in his eyes. It was small, but it was enough to make him believe that there might still be a way out of their current situation.

.....

The seizure of the Capital by the aristocratic families even took the Emperors by surprise.

The news travelled quickly and soon reached the regions beyond the Capital, giving the ruling forces another headache to deal with. The matter of Arcadia was already complicated enough, and now the Imperial Capital itself had fallen into the hands of the aristocratic families.

The situation inside the Capital was also unclear. The Royal Family had fallen, most of the Imperial Army had either been killed or scattered, and the remaining soldiers were no longer in a position to put up much resistance.

The aristocratic families had taken advantage of that weakness and moved quickly, and by the time the news reached the other regions, they had already secured their position within the Capital.

However, dealing with them was not going to be easy. These families were not ordinary nobles who had suddenly risen during the chaos. Their roots had spread far and wide across the Empire. For centuries, they had built connections with nobles, merchants, officials, military officers and even various powerful groups.

Many people across the Empire had some dealings with them. Because of this, simply killing them would not solve the problem. If the four families were wiped out by force, the people connected to them could panic or resist, and the entire situation could become even more troublesome.

There was also the matter of the Imperial Capital itself. The Emperors did not want this troublesome situation to spread any further. The Empire had already suffered enough damage during the war, and another conflict would only create more destruction.

Using brute force against the four families might end the problem quickly, but it could also create another crisis. The Emperors had no desire to turn the Capital into another battlefield after everything that had already happened.

Fortunately, the aristocratic families had not chosen to directly challenge the Emperors. Instead, they had sent a message asking for peaceful negotiations.

They made their position clear. They did not want the throne, nor did they want to fight the four Emperors. They only wanted to protect their families and preserve the foundations they had built over the centuries.

Because of this, a round of negotiations was bound to happen. However, before anything was decided, the Emperors chose to consult Ethan about the matter. His actions during the war had already changed the situation greatly, and his opinion had become something they could not simply ignore.

At the same time, another decision was made. A warning was sent throughout the remaining territories of Arcadia. Every noble family and powerful group that was thinking about taking advantage of the chaos was warned not to make any reckless move.

They were given the option to surrender peacefully and sign the agreement that would be presented to them. Those who surrendered would be allowed to retain some of their existing rights and positions according to the terms of the new arrangement.

Those who refused would be treated as enemies. The message was simple and clear. The war was over, and no one would be allowed to start another one just because the Royal Family had fallen.

The matter of partition had already been decided. Arcadia would no longer remain a single Empire. Its territory would be divided among the four Emperors, and each region would eventually be brought under their control.

But before that could happen peacefully, the remaining nobles had to be dealt with. The aristocratic families were simply the biggest problem left. Their influence was too deep to be removed carelessly, and their power was too dangerous to be ignored.

For now, the only path left was negotiation. And before those negotiations began, Ethan’s opinion had to be heard.
