I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 977: Fate Brought Forward

Savien stared at the data for a long time without saying a word.
His earlier judgment of this technology had been far too conservative!
Leap Power was not yet perfect, and its actual effect would vary from person to person, but what it changed was the balance of power between eighth-level wizards and ninth-level beings.
In the past, for eighth-level wizards to suppress a ninth-level being head-on, it usually took several powerhouses of the same level working together, relying on the interplay of different laws to restrain the ninth-level being’s special abilities, and then dragging it into a war of attrition through sustained attack.
But now, if this technology could run stably and raise an eighth-level wizard’s combat power several times over, then that line which had once been so hard to cross might be broken.
An ordinary eighth-level wizard suppressing a ninth-level being alone was no longer merely a theoretical fantasy.
Even if ninth-level beings still possessed the power that surged once they had charged up, it no longer meant they could suppress eighth-level wizards as easily as before by the advantage of their level alone.
Bastian slowly raised his head, and the look in his eyes as he turned to Jie Ming had changed.
“Jie Ming… do you know what you have made?”
Before Jie Ming could answer, Morna spoke first.
“If this technology can be spread among eighth-level wizards, it might even change the way attack and defense work on the front lines outright. Tasks that used to take several eighth-level wizards working together might now be done with far fewer people.”
Her voice grew lower and lower, yet it carried a shock she could not hide.
“And that is only the current version. If you keep refining it, there is simply no estimating how far it could go in the future!”
Savien set down the teacup in his hand.
“Good lad.” He fixed his eyes on Jie Ming, his tone full of feeling.
“I always did think your understanding of spatial technology was out of the ordinary, but I never expected your talent to be even better than I imagined! To think you could research something like this!”
The three masters’ reactions left Jie Ming a little embarrassed.
“The technology isn’t complete yet, and many of its conditions of application still need further verification. The conclusion about eighth-level wizards standing against ninth-level beings is likewise only a possibility derived from the existing data. It doesn’t mean that whoever masters it will be able to defeat every ninth-level creature.”
“Naturally,” Savien said at once.
“We aren’t those low-level wizards who only know how to read promotional figures. Of course we know a technology has its own scope of application.”
He went through the materials once more, and then his expression turned serious. “But that does nothing to lessen its value. What you have solved is a fundamental problem. The adaptation and refinement that follow can be handed to more researchers to carry forward.”
Bastian and Morna nodded along.
They understood very clearly what Leap Power meant.
The technology did not require its users to abandon their own original laws, nor did it force every wizard into one and the same system of power.
It simply offered a new method of mobilizing external energy, one that let different systems of law gain a further boost on top of their existing foundations.
That meant it had an exceptionally broad range of applications.
And once the technology was formally spread, it could change the high-level combat power of the entire wizard civilization.
In other words… the Level-One Cultivation Protocol!
With that thought, when the three senior eighth-level wizards looked at Jie Ming again, the easy air of elders regarding a young talent was gone.
They realized that they were witnessing the birth of a result that might reshape the landscape of their civilization.
Just then, the Fourth Seat, who had not once interrupted their discussion, rose to his feet.
He walked to Jie Ming’s side and said gently, “Wizard Jie Ming.”
Jie Ming composed himself at once, turned, and gave a wizard salute. “Lord Fourth Seat.”
“First of all, I must thank you.” The Fourth Seat patted him lightly on the shoulder.
“The technology you have researched is of the utmost value to the wizard civilization. If it can be spread smoothly, a great many wizards will benefit from it in the days to come, and our civilization will have far more options when it faces a powerful enemy.”
Here his tone took an abrupt turn. “However, before I thank you, there is one thing for which I must apologize to you.”
Jie Ming froze. “Huh?”
Apologize?
He looked at the Fourth Seat without thinking, even wondering whether he had misheard.
A ninth-level wizard, apologizing to him of his own accord?
“Lord Fourth Seat, what do you…”
Before he could finish, he heard the other explain, “This technology of yours was never supposed to be completed at this point in time.”
At those words, Jie Ming went rigid on the spot.
The Fourth Seat went on, “By my observation of the threads of fate, under normal circumstances you would only truly have completed your research on Leap Power after that future war had begun. By then the wizard civilization would have fallen into an exceedingly difficult position, and this technology would have become the key to turning the tide.”
“But I did not wish for things to come to that.”
Jie Ming sensed a certain heaviness in the Fourth Seat’s words.
“So I intervened in the threads of fate myself, and brought the power that could turn the tide… that is, the moment of your success, forward to the present.”
Jie Ming’s head jerked up.
In an instant, he understood a great many things.
Why, in more than a thousand years before this, he had never managed to clear the final technical obstacle, yet in the last fifty years or less had suddenly found the right direction.
Why those gaps in the theory, once so hard to bridge, had been broken through one after another in a single stretch.
Why, when he had plainly studied the relevant data so thoroughly, he had always been one step short, until at some moment all the clues had suddenly fallen into place.
So that was it.
It had been the Fourth Seat working on the level of fate.
He had forcibly dragged a moment of success that belonged to the future into the present.
Jie Ming’s mental form began to tremble faintly. He could not imagine that the Fate Law could go so far as this.
But before long, another thought came to him.
The war.
By the Fourth Seat’s account, this technology was supposed to have been completed only after the war began, and would then have become the key to turning the tide.
That meant that once that war broke out, the wizard civilization would very likely face an extremely grim situation.
Otherwise, the Fourth Seat would have had no need to go to such lengths.
And he had clearly not done it so that Jie Ming could obtain the Level-One Cultivation Protocol a little early.
He had done it because the wizard civilization needed Leap Power!
Looking at the blurred figure before him, Jie Ming suddenly felt the joy he had just won turn unbearably heavy.
“In other words…” His voice had gone a little hoarse.
“You brought my research results forward? And the outcome of that war… the wizard civilization’s situation is already as dire as that?”
