I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 976: Shock
Previously on I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality...
Jie Ming looked at the mosaic-covered mental form before him, and for a moment he genuinely did not know what to say.
The Fourth Seat!
One of the only nine ninth-level wizards the wizard civilization possessed. For the overwhelming majority of wizards, an existence like this appeared only in legends and in records, a level they could never hope to come into contact with.
And now, this legendary ninth-level wizard was standing right in front of him, and had even introduced himself by name.
Jie Ming drew a deep breath and did his best to keep his mental form steady.
“Steady, steady. I’m someone who has seen plenty of ninth-level creatures and watched high-level wizards do battle with my own eyes. I shouldn’t lose my composure completely just because of who he is…”
The trouble was that the ninth-level creatures he had met before would not have lasted a single move against this man, a true member of the wizard civilization’s highest echelon.
Before the Fourth Seat, everything he had once taken pride in looked far too small.
“What, scared stiff?”
Savien’s voice came suddenly from beside him.
The master of the spatial discipline had produced, from who knew where, a teacup made of data, and holding it in his hand he said with an air of perfect serenity, “Young people simply aren’t steady enough. It’s only the Fourth Seat. What is there to be nervous about? Look at me. Aren’t I perfectly calm?”
So saying, he took a slow, leisurely sip of tea.
Heh heh heh…
That was what his mouth said, but his hand would not stop shaking, and in the time it took him to drink one mouthful, more than half the water in the cup had sloshed out.
Jie Ming looked at him, then at the cup that was already nearly empty, and could not help ribbing him. “Master Savien, when you say things like that, could you steady your hand first? You’ve nearly spilled all your tea.”
Savien froze mid-motion.
“Ahem! This is a data space. The tea is simulated. Spilling it won’t dirty my clothes, so why are you fussing over details like that?”
“Then why were you drinking it just now?”
“…”
Savien was lost for words, and in the end could only glare at Jie Ming.
Bastian and Morna beside him had not forced themselves to keep up a front of composure the way Savien had, but they too were quick to voice their displeasure.
“Don’t you go talking nonsense here, boy!” Bastian gave a snort. “The three of us are senior eighth-level wizards, whatever else we are. What grand occasion haven’t we seen?”
“Quite right,” Morna chimed in. “Ninth-level wizards may be rare, but not so rare that they’d leave us unable to speak.”
Only, as the two of them talked, the edges of their mental forms were quivering faintly, and they were plainly nowhere near as calm as their mouths made out.
Watching the three masters’ reactions, Jie Ming found that the tension in his heart had actually eased a good deal.
When it came down to it, the Fourth Seat might be a ninth-level wizard, but he had shown not the slightest hint of lording it over anyone.
Add to that the familiar clowning of Savien and the other two, which kept the atmosphere here from growing too oppressive, and Jie Ming quickly got his state of mind in order.
The Fourth Seat seemed not to mind how they behaved either. He simply looked at them gently, and then spoke.
“Very well. Since everyone is here, let us begin by looking at the technology Jie Ming has submitted.”
The moment the words were out, Savien and the other two put their joking away.
The reason they were here at all was tied to the technology Jie Ming had submitted.
No one had told them the specifics beforehand, but a result that could rouse the Fourth Seat, that could even bring this ninth-level wizard in person to the review conference, was obviously no ordinary piece of research.
As one, the three of them looked at the data packets in front of them.
Jie Ming looked over as well.
Under Felix’s arrangements, the complete materials on Leap Power had already been distributed to those taking part in the review.
The data packets contained the technical principles, the experimental process, the conditions of application and every test record Jie Ming had accumulated so far, enough for a professional researcher to quickly grasp the basics of the technology.
“Come on then, little fellow, let me see what fine thing you’ve researched this time.” Savien was the first to open his data packet.
At first, Savien’s expression was fairly relaxed, but as the analysis went deeper and deeper his movements grew slower and slower, and the hand holding the teacup gradually lowered.
A few seconds later, he abruptly sat up straight.
“Wait…”
He called the earlier content back up and checked the energy mobilization structure and the law adaptation mechanism item by item, as if afraid he had missed some crucial detail.
A moment later, Savien’s eyes flew wide.
“This… how is this possible?!”
At the same time, the expressions of Bastian and Morna, the two senior eighth-level wizards, had changed as well.
Bastian leaned forward without realizing it, as if he meant to bury his head in the light screen in front of him.
Morna rapidly worked out the core parameters, and then her mental form went rigid as a statue.
None of the three masters were ordinary researchers.
They had worked the spatial discipline for years beyond counting and handled more high-level technologies than anyone could number. Even if energy cycles were not their specialty, they were more than able to judge what potential a technology truly held.
So they understood very clearly the true value of Leap Power!
The technology Jie Ming had submitted was not perfect.
By the experimental data on hand, it could raise a user’s actual combat ability by roughly one and a half to five times, with the exact effect depending on how well the user had mastered the technology and how well his own laws fit the environment.
Taken on its own, that figure hardly seemed beyond imagining.
After all, technologies that boosted combat power were not rare in the wizard civilization.
The problem was that the way Leap Power raised it was completely different from those ordinary enhancement technologies.
It had established an entirely new system of energy mobilization, one that let a user guide far more external energy into battle with his own limited power.
In other words, it multiplied the combat power that was already there!
And what was more, the technology had the potential to be spread widely.
That was the most terrifying part of all.
Savien quickly called up, in his own mind, a combat power estimation model for comparison.
Under that model, if the gap in combat power between an ordinary person and a seventh-level wizard was set at one, then an ordinary eighth-level wizard’s combat power came to roughly ten thousand, while the limit of a senior eighth-level wizard might reach somewhere around fifteen thousand.
So in raw numbers, the differences among eighth-level wizards themselves were larger even than the gap between an ordinary person and a seventh-level wizard.
But reckoned as a multiple, a senior eighth-level wizard was only about fifty percent stronger than an ordinary one.
Leap Power was another matter entirely!
Even at its lowest effect of one and a half times, an ordinary eighth-level wizard’s combat power could rise straight to the peak of a senior eighth-level wizard.
And if the user could understand and master the technology further, raising the effect to five times, then things became even more absurd.
Taking an ordinary eighth-level wizard’s ten thousand as the baseline, five times meant fifty thousand.
Meanwhile, by the battle data the wizard civilization had accumulated over the years, the overwhelming majority of ninth-level creatures, before they finished charging up and truly brought their own traits to bear, sat at a combat power of around thirty thousand.
That was why, on an open battlefield, it was usually one senior eighth-level wizard, leading two to ten ordinary eighth-level wizards, who encircled and hunted down a ninth-level creature.
Of course, once they were given the chance to finish accumulating their power, their strength would surge by a truly alarming margin.
But if, before that happened, they were suppressed by the wizards’ combined high-intensity attacks and never managed to charge up properly, then the situation was entirely different.
And the appearance of this technology, Leap Power, meant that an ordinary eighth-level wizard who had thoroughly comprehended it would actually have a chance, by his own strength alone, to suppress a ninth-level creature that had not yet finished charging!
