After defeating and sealing a ninth-level creature, Jie Ming and Jack walk through the ruins of a human city. Jie Ming studies the complex arrays being laid to integrate the plane into the Infernal Sulfur Plane, while also observing his unique vision, the True-False Void-Piercing Pupil, begin to decline. He warns Jack that trouble is coming soon and encourages him to cultivate his strength.

These days, Jie Ming fully accepted that he was a member of the wizard civilization.

So a stronger wizard civilization meant, for him, a stronger backing.

Of course, that did not mean he needed to sacrifice himself without reservation.

But if there was a technology that could both markedly raise the combat strength of the entire wizard civilization and help him obtain the Level-One Cultivation Protocol, then it naturally deserved priority.

And for such a technology, he had already had a fairly clear line of thought a thousand years ago.

Jie Ming sat up straight and raised a hand to summon the light screen at the center of the laboratory.

Soon, two sets of technical documents and a large body of sorted data were displayed before him at once.

“Just right.”

He looked at the familiar material, and his expression gradually turned serious.

“Thanks to the True-False Void-Piercing Pupil over the past few months, the data I need is more or less collected. I’m still a little short on the knowledge side, but I can move into the final stage of research now.”

On the left of the light screen was the entropy reduction cycle technology he had obtained from the Information Plane back then (Chapter 578).

On the right was a series of technical documents from the cultivation system on how to mobilize the power of heaven and earth.

The two technologies came from completely different sources, and the civilizations behind them differed enormously too.

But in Jie Ming’s eyes, they shared something quite obvious in common.

And that common ground was exactly the breakthrough point he intended to use.

First, the cultivation system’s mobilizing of the power of heaven and earth.

The cultivation system had one very distinctive feature: the individual did not need to possess power fully matching the final effect. Instead, he could use his own power as a guide to mobilize far greater energy from the outside world.

The power a cultivator could release directly on his own might not be all that strong, yet by drawing on the environment of heaven and earth, he could make vast external forces move according to his will.

This differed from certain ways of fighting in the wizard civilization.

Wizards could draw on external energy too, but that amplification usually depended on special architectural structures, materials, arrays, or an environment prepared in advance.

…in other words, the so-called wizard tower.

This was also why a wizard could bring extremely strong power to bear within his own plane.

Conversely, once a wizard left his own plane, his combat strength dropped sharply.

The cultivation system’s techniques for mobilizing the power of heaven and earth were far more “advanced.”

If the means of guiding external forces could be combined with a wizard’s own system of power, a wizard’s combat strength could be raised a step further.

Jie Ming himself was a successful example.

The real question, however, was how to accomplish this at a relatively low cost.

Simply copying the cultivation system’s techniques was not realistic.

The two sides differed in their power structures, their foundations in law, and their methods of cultivation.

Jie Ming could combine the two so easily because he cultivated the power of both systems at once. That was not something suited to large-scale adoption.

So Jie Ming turned his gaze to the other document.

The entropy reduction cycle.

This was a special technology he had obtained from the Information Plane, and it was also an important means by which those information lifeforms sustained their own existence.

Normal energy flow was usually accompanied by the dissipation of order, which was what was known as entropy increase.

An energy system that was originally tightly structured would, through continual conversion and consumption, gradually drift from its original state, until in the end it could no longer maintain its initial stable structure.

To preserve their own existence, information lifeforms had to resist this change constantly.

The entropy reduction cycle they used could return the surrounding energy to a more ordered state, thereby keeping their own structure stable.

On the surface, this was an ability that almost defied common sense: without a corresponding input of external energy, it made the surrounding energy more ordered.

But Jie Ming knew very well that the so-called “no work done” was only relative to the final effect obtained.

In the complete cycle, the information lifeform itself still had to expend energy. It was just that the price it paid was lower than the usable effect produced by the portion of energy that had been reorganized.

In other words, it was not creating something from nothing. It had found a more efficient way of using its own limited power to guide the originally scattered energy around it, so that it reorganized according to a specific structure.

Compared with truly creating something from nothing, this technology did fall a little short, but it could still be called a “perpetual motion machine.”

In his previous life, such a technology would have been astonishing enough, but in this world…

Jie Ming shook his head with regret, then let his gaze move back and forth between the two documents.

Gradually, a faint smile appeared on his face.

“All the pieces of the puzzle are in place.”

What the cultivation system called mobilizing the power of heaven and earth was, from a certain angle, accomplishing a similar process.

A cultivator only needed to supply a portion of the power himself to guide the vast energy of the outside world, turning it from an originally scattered state that was hard to use into an ordered structure that fit his own needs.

Of course, the similarity was only one of principle.

The two technologies differed enormously in how they were actually implemented, in the range of energy they could mobilize, and in what they demanded of the user.

Under normal circumstances, deriving the cultivation system’s technique for mobilizing the power of heaven and earth from the Information Plane’s entropy reduction cycle alone was a nearly impossible task.

If both were compared to ships, then the entropy reduction cycle might be no more than a little sampan, while the mature technique for mobilizing the power of heaven and earth was more like an aircraft carrier that integrated complex systems, power facilities, and precise control structures.

Both might count as vessels, but a primitive man could knock one together by hand with stone tools, while the other needed a complete modern industrial system.

But Jie Ming could do it, because after all, he did not need to start from zero.

He already held the mature technique for mobilizing the power of heaven and earth. He could take it as his target and reference, then work backward to study how the entropy reduction cycle would need to develop in order to gradually achieve a similar effect.

More importantly, he also had the great mass of observational data he had gathered with specific purpose over the past few months by means of the True-False Void-Piercing Pupil.

Only with this material was he confident of carrying the entropy reduction cycle to a deeper level of deduction.

Jie Ming quickly pulled up a set of data, projected the basic structure of the entropy reduction cycle onto the center of the light screen, and then mapped the key nodes of the technique for mobilizing the power of heaven and earth onto it one by one.

He first extracted the similar parts of the two technologies and built a shared theoretical framework, then tried step by step to bridge the differences between them.

With that, the research formally began.

Once this technology succeeded, its significance would go far beyond any one kind of magic or any one piece of equipment.

The greatest strength of the wizard civilization lay in its ability to rely on knowledge to bring its own power to the utmost.

Once an ordinary wizard had mastered the right knowledge, he could often make a single measure of power produce an effect far beyond the norm. This was also an important reason wizards had kept gaining the upper hand among different civilizations.

Yet even so, wizards were still limited by the total amount of their own energy.

If, building on the existing body of knowledge, wizards could be enabled to mobilize the far greater elemental forces around them at a lower cost, then that limit could be broken further.

Jie Ming himself was a ready example.

Relying on the Spiritual Qi Law together with various other techniques, he could, at the level of a sixth-level wizard, bring to bear the combat strength of an elite seventh-level wizard.

If the core principles of this technology could be distilled and then spread to more wizards, the improvement it brought would certainly not be confined to any one level.

It could be said that this technology would absolutely change the entire wizard civilization!
