They pressed on swiftly for a long while more. Thanks to the fact that the plane’s very space was also being devoured by that point, the group’s speed had increased considerably.

Even so, they flew for the better part of a day before they finally laid eyes on the ninth-level creature’s true face.

It, too, was a humanoid creature.

Only, its skin was a deep, somber green, its neck, shoulders, arms and other such places were covered in fine, dense scales, and a pair of irregular bony structures extended from behind its ears.

Its body was not burly; if anything it could be called somewhat gaunt, with long, slender limbs. Judging from its appearance alone, it was hard to feel there was anything dangerous about it.

Yet the instant it opened its eyes, a terrifying aura that made even Jie Ming’s heart tighten slightly burst outward.

There was no clear emotion in those eyes, only blankness.

It seemed to have only just woken from an extremely long slumber. Its brow slowly furrowed, as though it were enduring some pain it could not understand.

It made no deliberate move of its own, yet everyone felt the change in their surroundings at the same moment.

Boom!

Vast quantities of elemental power seemed to have suddenly slipped out of control, surging madly toward the spot where the ninth-level creature stood.

It was as if the whole world were offering itself up as its food.

“It’s begun.”

Wizard Fate’s voice sounded from beside them, and he stepped forward of his own accord.

In Jie Ming’s vision, countless runes spread outward from his body.

The runes linked to one another, interlocking link by link, forming a network so vast it was hard to imagine.

Law fixation!

Jie Ming could not help widening his eyes.

So his guess had been right: that structure of runes representing essence, layered and nested one inside another, was the truth of law fixation!

The runes on Wizard Fate’s body replicated ceaselessly with him as their core, then expanded outward, and soon became a complete structure that completely enveloped the ninth-level creature ahead.

“Fix,” Wizard Fate said softly.

The whole region seemed to be pinned down by an invisible force.

The elements that had been surging madly toward the ninth-level creature stopped dead. Masses of matter caught halfway in flight simply hung in the air, then were forcibly flung aside by some power.

The ninth-level creature, too, seemed to notice the anomaly. At last it raised its head, a pair of green eyes staring straight at Wizard Fate.

Then its lips moved faintly.

Jie Ming heard no sound at all, but in his vision he saw an extremely eerie scene.

Around the ninth-level creature, the runes Wizard Fate had already fixed in place suddenly showed minute fluctuations.

It seemed only to want an attack to appear before it.

And so the runes began to change.

Countless runes rearranged and recombined at a speed far beyond Jie Ming’s comprehension.

Flame, thunder, spatial tearing, elemental torrents… every kind of power appeared almost in the same instant.

But before these powers could take shape, they met an obstruction.

The runes on the outer perimeter of the ninth-level creature’s body, the ones Wizard Fate’s law fixation had already locked down, never changed at all.

And so the structure that had been expanding outward abruptly lost its integrity.

Bang!

The still-unformed power collapsed on the spot.

Jie Ming’s pupils contracted sharply. With the help of the True-False Void-Piercing Pupil, he finally understood.

Whenever the ninth-level creature wanted a certain result, the runes that had been running in a stable state would rapidly recombine according to its will, manufacturing a reality that matched its thought.

But runes that an eighth-level wizard had fixed in place no longer fell within the range the ninth-level creature could manipulate at will.

The ninth-level creature could still mobilize the runes within its own body, could still alter its own power structure, but it could no longer manipulate the outside world as freely as before.

So under the influence of law fixation, a ninth-level creature’s “thought becomes reality” was confined within an extremely small range.

“So that’s how it is…”

Jie Ming murmured to himself, excitement quickly welling up in his eyes.

Oceans of elements gathered together in layer upon layer, finally becoming an elemental torrent that blotted out the sky.

The pillar of light formed by the elemental torrent slammed head-on into the ninth-level creature, and a terrifying shockwave spread out in an instant.

Yet the ninth-level creature merely raised a hand.

A huge black barrier formed abruptly, blocking the entire frontal assault.

But in the very instant it blocked the attack, the remaining two plane wizards had already struck together.

All the power in their world-bodies seemed to be mobilized at once in this moment. Countless elemental torrents were compressed to the limit, finally condensing into a single enormous pillar of light that smashed viciously into the ninth-level creature from the side.

Boom!

The ninth-level creature’s body was sent flying sideways.

It crashed through several layers of spatial structure that had already grown extremely thin before it forcibly steadied itself.

“Roar!” A deep bellow echoed through the void.

Then it raised both arms, and all around it, the runes Wizard Fate had not yet fully fixed changed frantically.

A mass of attacks was born from the void out of nothing.

Giant elemental behemoths came pouncing, countless spatial blades tore downward, and wave after wave of utterly incomprehensible energy fluctuations locked directly onto the three plane wizards.

But Wizard Fate acted at once, and his law fixation extended outward again.

Masses of runes formed a tight line of defense before the ninth-level creature, locking most of the eerie changes down outright.

At the same time, the three plane wizards attacked once more.

Boom!!!

Terrifying energy erupted. The ninth-level creature’s body shuddered, and a great spray of green blood burst out.

Yet in the very instant it was wounded, its body actually began to repair itself at speed.

Jie Ming saw it with his own eyes, perfectly clearly.

The runes inside its body changed, directly redefining the damaged parts of itself so that the injuries vanished completely.

“Such power…” Jie Ming’s gaze hardened slightly.

A ninth-level life form was every bit as terrifying as expected. Even with its ability to manipulate the outside world restricted, it still possessed extremely fearsome power in itself.

Which raised the question in reverse: what on earth was the power that could keep this ninth-level life form wounded and unable to heal?

The three plane wizards gathered their power once more, and three terrifying forces came down almost simultaneously.
