Asad successfully subdued a powerful Demon Lord, transforming it into an obedient undead servant. Wallace, unable to ask Asad about his methods due to the portal closing, returned to the Codebreakers. Reese, impressed by Asad's feat, was tasked by him to hunt in newly discovered Demon Lairs.

For the past few months, Asad and Fiona had been keeping a close eye on the Elves.

They had simply been doing it secretly.

Fiona used her rats... There were rats scattered throughout the shelters, inside buildings, around the World Trees, and even in places where most survivors would never think to look. Through them, Fiona could observe the Elves without attracting much attention.

Asad, on the other hand, used his ghosts.

His undead spirits could move through walls and remain hidden from ordinary detection, allowing him to observe the Elves from places where even Fiona’s rats couldn’t reach.

Neither of them had told the other about their investigation.

After all, there had been no obvious reason to cause unnecessary concern.

The Elves hadn’t attacked anyone... They hadn’t tried to steal resources and they hadn’t harmed the survivors.

In fact, their relationship with the shelters had remained quite peaceful.

However, something about them had changed.

Over the past few months, several people had noticed that the Elves were behaving strangely.

Sometimes, an Elf would suddenly stop what they were doing and look toward an empty area.

Other times, they would gather around one of the World Trees and remain there for hours without speaking.

There were even occasions when several Elves seemed to react to something that nobody else could hear.

They would suddenly turn their heads in the same direction and whisper among themselves.

And sometimes, they would appear to be listening, but whenever someone asked them what they were doing, the Elves simply brushed it off.

Since they weren’t causing any trouble, Shane and the others didn’t pay too much attention to it.

Shane, in particular, didn’t seem worried.

It was almost as if he already knew that whatever was happening wouldn’t become a problem.

Still, Asad had always found that somewhat strange.

However, after hearing what Wallace had told Reese and Wade about the Elves, he finally understood why their recent behavior had felt so familiar.

The Elves weren’t simply acting strangely.

They were listening to something.

Something that other races couldn’t hear.

And if Wallace’s warning was accurate, then there was only one possibility that made sense.

An Elven Queen had already been selected.

Asad gently nodded as he wasn’t sure if this was a good thing or not.

He didn’t know who the Queen was yet, nor did he know how the Elves had selected her.

But if the World Tree had truly acknowledged an Elven Queen, then the situation could become much more complicated in the future.

For now, however, the Elves were still cooperating with the shelters.

There was no reason to interfere, so Asad decided that continuing to observe them was the best choice.

If something changed, he would know about it.

With that thought, Asad eventually left the area.

He had another matter to deal with.

The Demon.

***

Several hours later, Asad arrived at one of his hidden underground bases.

The location was deliberately kept secret, known only to a handful of people within the Eclipse Revenant Clan.

It was an enormous underground chamber filled with various facilities, storage rooms, laboratories, and training areas.

Asad walked deeper into the base before entering a large sealed room.

The Demon was already waiting inside.

It stood quietly in the center of the room, its enormous body surrounded by several layers of necromantic restraints.

Although it was now under Asad’s control, he wasn’t careless enough to simply let a Demon Lord wander around his base.

Asad walked toward it.

"Let’s have a proper conversation."

The Demon lowered its head.

"Yes, Master."

"First, tell me about yourself."

The Demon remained silent for a few seconds.

"My name is..."

It hesitated.

Even its memories seemed somewhat fragmented...

"I am a Demon Lord."

Asad gently nodded and allowed him to continue.

"I ruled over a territory in the Abyssal Realm."

Asad continued questioning it.

"What happened to you?"

The Demon clenched its fists.

"I was forcefully summoned and attacked by Demon Hunters."

"How many?"

"More than a hundred. They came for me together. They attacked without giving me any chance to recover."

Asad couldn’t help but feel impressed with the technique that the Demon Hunters used.

"I killed many of them," the Demon continued. "But they kept coming. Some were weak, but there were enough powerful ones among them to cause serious trouble. Several even possessed abilities designed specifically to harm Demons."

"That explains your condition. What happened after the battle?"

"I don’t remember clearly. My memories from that period are fragmented. I only remember escaping and being severely weakened. After that..."

It shook its head.

"Nothing."

Asad nodded. He wasn’t surprised. The Demon had gone through a battle that could have killed even a Demon Lord, and whatever happened afterward had apparently left its memories damaged as well.

"Tell me about those Demon Hunters."

The Demon thought for a moment.

"Most were nothing special. They relied on numbers to overwhelm me. However, there were several who were different."

"How different?"

"They could injure me far more easily than the others. Their weapons, techniques, and abilities were clearly made to deal with Demons."

"I see..."

So the Demon Hunters weren’t simply a large group of ordinary fighters. They had been prepared specifically to hunt a Demon Lord.

That made the situation considerably more serious.

He continued asking questions, occasionally interrupting when the Demon’s answers raised something important. The creature’s memories were incomplete, but Asad slowly managed to piece together what had happened.

By the time the interrogation continued for several hours, his expression had become noticeably more serious.

"Then... I guess you’re incredibly strong once fully recovered, huh..."

He had expected the Demon to be strong, but not this strong... And now, such a creature belonged to him.

That alone was an enormous gain.

Still, one question continued to bother him.

If more than a hundred Demon Hunters were required to bring this Demon Lord to the brink of death, then what kind of preparation do they need to deal with the Demon Invasion...

After all, he was already expecting another Wave really soon.

It could be another Draconic Army Wave, Zombie Wave, Vampire Wave, and of course, this Demon Wave...

"I should visit the new Priests later..." Asad muttered as he recalled the first batch of people who had been sent to the New Haven Clan, had already returned.
