Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1972: They Already Know

Silence.
Silence hung over the bar for a moment.
Haworg and the woman were silent. Neither of them spoke as their casual conversation quickly turned into something far more serious.
"A fucking True Lord against a K4-Phantom. And... judging by the grim look on your face, that Lord is already on his way here, isn’t he?"
The woman took another sip before nodding. Her gray eyes quickly took on a weary look.
"Yes. You know... Haworg, you and I have found ourselves in a strange situation."
"Ah? What do you mean?"
She gulped.
"We’re both curious to see how this will turn out. Will a True Lord be able to kill Adam Vinter, or will he manage to escape yet again? But... at the same time, I’m trembling with fear knowing that something of such magnitude is about to happen at the Gray Sea."
However, Haworg didn’t share her emotions. He was confused.
"Wait, I don’t understand you. If what you said is true and a True Lord is heading this way right now, then Adam Vinter doesn’t stand a chance! He’s already dead!"
But... something in her gaze made Haworg pause.
He was overlooking one important detail.
"Haworg, think about it." She tapped her temple. "If I know about this, what about the Citadel?"
In an instant, Haworg’s expression changed, turning as pale as a sheet of paper.
"The Citadel... They... Are you saying they sent someone to help Adam Vinter?"
In response, the woman spread her arms wide.
"Most likely, but I don’t know who this Phantom is, or where he is. But this Phantom won’t let a True Lord reach Adam Vinter, it would be too dangerous for him. The Phantom will stop a True Lord halfway there."
It seemed that Haworg and her reactions were over the top.
Monsters and Phantoms were fighting constantly. Right now, dozens or even hundreds of battles between monsters and Phantoms were taking place all over the world.
But here, it was all about the level of this battle. That was what mattered.
"A Second-Rank Phantom against a True Lord of the Befallen Crown. A battle like this hasn’t happened in a very long time, and there are reasons for that. Given how serious the Befallen Crown is, one of these two must die, this time, it’s inevitable."
The woman nodded as the tips of her fingers trembled.
"I don’t know who, but I heard that someone sent Adam Vinter here. Perhaps that person knew that everything would happen exactly this way. I think that’s what they wanted... They want to start what they couldn’t manage hundreds of years ago."
Haworg’s eyes widened.
"The war... Will this be the first step toward a war?"
The woman shook her head.
"I don’t think so. But... If everything happens exactly as we think it will and this Second Rank Phantom kills a True Lord, then the Befallen Crown will be in a rage we’ve never seen before. The scariest part of all this is that the Citadel might be prepared for it."
After that, Haworg and she said nothing as they silently pondered what they had heard.
Their conversation turned out to be far darker and heavier than either of them had expected, but such was the reality.
They were both stronger than most monsters in this world, and even the Lesser Lords were no match for them.
But... a True Lord who was currently heading toward the Gray Sea made their blood run cold, while thoughts of a Second-Rank Phantom sent shivers running down their spines.
...
Adam, in his turn, didn’t know that just a few minutes after he left the Amber Halo, this conversation took place in the bar.
He flew over the Gray Sea, maintaining a slight smile on his face that gradually faded as he approached his destination.
"Do you think I can do it?" Adam asked.
Silvana appeared beside him, placing her hand on his shoulder.
"I believe in you. When you fought against Midgar, you didn’t yet realize how much stronger you’d become. Breydar and the Veiled Souls Clan, they’ll be serious opponents, but you don’t have to fight them all at once."
Adam nodded. Silvana was right.
If he had to kill three Viscounts and three Barons on his own, he knew it would mean certain death.
But, for now, he could side with Breydar. That way, their forces would be divided, and his chances of success would increase.
"Breydar can take on one Viscount and one Baron. If I fight a Viscount and two Barons, I have a decent chance of winning. I doubt they’ll be as strong as Midgar and Kalyso."
Sure, Adam had defeated Midgar and was now stronger than Kalyso, but he realized that for their levels, those two were worthy opponents.
Kalyso, for his part, had defeated three Barons without sustaining a single wound. Moreover, he’d done it solely to ensure no one would interfere with his battle against Adam.
"Alright, enough thinking about that." Adam took a deep breath. "We’re almost there."
Adam’s gaze dropped lower as he spotted one island that stood out from the rest.
On this island were tall stone peaks topped with red crystals.
If he had been on the island, he wouldn’t have been able to notice it, but from his height, it was obvious: the peaks formed a three-digit pattern: 200.
"If this is Island A200, then A215 can’t be far. I’ll be there soon!"
His gaze filled with determination as he sped up, racing across the dark sky of the Gray Sea.
...
Whooooooosh!
At that very moment, like a black star, a figure shot out from the Dark Shore. No one and nothing dared to stop it or stand in its way as this figure moved faster than any fighter jet or flying monster, streaking across the Dead Lands at lightning speed.
Strangely enough, this figure had no idea that at the Gray Sea, someone was already waiting for it.
Blink.
Two human eyes opened as the darkness of the Dark Field was reflected in the large crystal eyes.
"Oh. So that’s what they were talking about. Looks like it’s going to be fun!"
