Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1941: The Power Everyone Had Forgotten
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
The battle between a K4-Phantom and Viscount was drawing to its logical conclusion.
All the other Lords watching the battle from afar understood this.
Midgar had played his last trump card, and now everything depended solely on Adam.
If he could somehow defeat the army of demons, it would all be over for Midgar.
"What do you have to say now?" Blafor’s low voice rang out as he narrowed his red eyes.
Ergander frowned. For the first time during the entire battle, doubts arose in his heart as to whether Adam would survive this fight.
"It’ll be tough... I expected him to have some kind of ability against large numbers of opponents or something like that, but it seems I was wrong."
Slash! Slash! Slash!
Meanwhile, Adam swung his crystal blades, slicing beasts and demons to pieces. The bright flame emanating from Lakma helped him, but... his situation was dire and getting worse and worse.
Over the past few minutes, Adam had already killed more than a hundred demons, but their numbers only kept growing. He could barely see the rocky plain because of how many monsters were closing in on him from all sides.
"I’ll be honest with you, my friend." Ergander sighed heavily. "I no longer know if Adam will win or not, but... if I turn out to be right and he actually does, then he’ll need something more than just these blades."
Blafor wanted to reply, but something made him stop.
"Adam Vinter... He... I’d heard of him even before we met here. Are blades and threads his main source of power?"
"Hmm?" Ergander raised an eyebrow curiously as he turned toward Blafor.
In the next moment, realization struck them as their eyes widened simultaneously.
SLASH!
Adam swung his blades, sending a wave of fire that incinerated many demons, but others immediately took their place.
"DAMN IT!" Adam clenched his teeth, continuing to fight no matter what.
Midgar, who was hovering high in the sky, smiled bitterly.
"Well... I wanted to bring him alive to the Befallen Crown, but it looks like I won’t be able to do that. He... He turned out to be a much bigger problem than I expected."
His eyes followed Adam, who was trying to close the distance with the demons, but he couldn’t manage it. As soon as he moved to the side, a dozen demons would appear there a moment later.
The rift had existed long enough for the demons to spread across the entire rocky plain. Their number was approaching a thousand.
"Huh. In any case, I’ve become the one who defeated Adam Vinter - the future Second Rank Phantom! Hahaha!"
Midgar’s joy was understandable and easily explained. Sure, Adam hadn’t become a Second Rank Phantom yet, but of all the First Circle Phantoms, he was one of the closest to that goal.
There were only a few monsters in the world who could boast of such an achievement as the slaying of a Second Rank Phantom, and many of those monsters were over a thousand years old.
For Midgar, who was a Lesser Lord, defeating the leading contender was a great achievement, a true triumph, and he knew that the Befallen Crown would appreciate it for what it was worth.
All that was left for Midgar to do was lean on his poleaxe and watch as the flame in Adam’s eyes slowly faded.
With every swing of his blades, with every demon slain, only to be replaced by two more, Adam’s eyes lost their bright light.
BAM!
The long tail slammed into Adam, sending him flying to the side.
Adam spun through the air from the impact. He tried to regain his balance, but another demon attacked him from above.
BAM!
The massive fist slammed straight into Adam’s stomach, sending him crashing to the ground.
No sooner had Adam’s back slammed into the rock and a cloud of dust risen than more than a dozen demons pounced on him like hellhounds, eager to tear him to pieces.
"GET OFF ME!" Adam roared, trying to throw the demons aside.
He kicked one, but before he could get back to his feet, the other monsters attacked him again.
The blue threads tried to protect Adam, as the demon’s claws were unable to cut through them, but Adam’s strength was running out.
Moreover, not only were the blue threads reaching their limit, but Adam’s crystal blades could no longer withstand the endless battle.
Crack!
Upon the next clash with the demon’s claws, the blades shattered into fragments right before Adam’s wide-open eyes.
BURST!
The flame burst from his hands with renewed force, driving the demons aside, but it was nothing more than Lakma’s desperate attempt to save Adam.
Unfortunately, the flame didn’t last long, as Lakma’s powers had also run out.
"No... This can’t be... I can still... I have to fight!" Adam clenched his hand into a fist, but two powerful strikes immediately struck him.
Silvana didn’t respond to him, and he had no strength left to use their shared abilities anyway. Lone Blaze and Lakma had reached their limits, just like Adam himself.
He no longer had any blades, spears, or fire from his threads and wings.
He had nothing left but the encroaching darkness caused by the demons closing in on him.
At that very moment, Lakma’s lips trembled, and her face turned pale with panic.
She was atop the Evolution Tree, but there was nothing she could do to help Adam.
"I must save him, just as he saved me!" Lakma exclaimed as tears streamed from her eyes.
A spark flared between her palms, but immediately went out.
"No... This can’t be the end..."
Step. Step. Step.
Footsteps sounded from the side, causing Lakma to turn around.
"Agh...?"
She gasped as she looked at a man she didn’t recognize, or... was he really a stranger to her?
"What...?" Lakma muttered. "Is there someone else at the top of the tree?"
The man smiled, approaching Lakma and holding out his hand. He ruffled her hair, only deepening her confusion.
"Well, well, it seems they’ve all actually forgotten about me. The Third Grand Star... it hit him harder than expected, didn’t it?"
The man smirked as he looked at the Path Construct.
"I know it was necessary, but it was still a painful experience."
Lakma blinked, looking at the man with long blue hair and piercing green eyes.
"Who... Who are you?"
The man knelt on one knee, looking into Lakma’s eyes.
"Soon you’ll remember. You’ll all remember, but first... Adam must be the first."
