Bologue and Aimou failed to capture the Throat of the Abyss, which escaped through a spatial rift. As the Throat of the Abyss's lair collapsed, Bologue and Aimou attempted to flee, but the Regent King attacked them, slowing their escape. Bologue realized they had been tricked and that the pathway was closing.

"I’m definitely going to butcher that thing."

Bologue sounded as if he were speaking to Aimou, yet also as if he were swearing an oath to himself. The next instant he swung Resentful Bite, flooding it with a vast tide of Ether that surged into the Void Shedding Sword Oil, evaporating it completely.

Blazing white arcs ran along the pitch?black Blade, faint currents flickering without cease, temporarily gifting that black Blade with Extraordinary might.

This was Bologue’s first time opening a rift from within a Curved Path; he had no idea what would happen next, but it was still better than staying put and waiting for death.

The arcing Blade cleaved down along the scar that was about to vanish. It should have chopped into nothingness and scythed through unimpeded, yet in reality it felt as though it had sunk into a block of invisible stone.

A crisp shattering rang out, as if a sheet of glass had been smashed. Immediately afterward the sound multiplied, dense and chaotic, like hundreds of panes fracturing into powder all at once. The sound was so vivid, so real, Bologue could almost feel shards slicing his skin open, lacing it with blood.

In that shrill, piercing screech, Bologue hewed open a writhing rift. Ahead lay a murky darkness, proclaiming an unknown destination.

There was no time for hesitation. Bologue straightened and stepped into it; in the instant he vanished, endless darkness squeezed in, devouring the burned?out ash and erasing it into void. In the haze, countless pale arms reached out, trying to seize Bologue—but they closed on nothing.

His vision dissolved into chaos—the normal aftermath of Curved Path Shuttling—but such vertigo usually came only after long?distance traversal.

Bologue could see nothing, yet his mind still worked. He realized he must have completely drifted away from the battlefield. Then an absolute chill washed over his body, as if he were standing amid glaciers, frozen beneath an ice sea.

Mountain Ridge?

Bologue immediately thought of the snow?capped ranges beside the Wind Source Highlands. Had he been hurled there?

Before Bologue could think further, a suffocating pressure crashed down. He couldn’t draw breath; no matter how he forced his lungs to work, that inexplicable strangling held him fast. Oxygen loss dulled his thoughts, blurred his mind, as though he were sinking beneath a deep ocean forever.

"Bologue!"

Aimou’s shout snapped Bologue partially awake, and just then he felt a fierce gale slicing past his body.

Falling!

Bologue realized it—he was plummeting at terrifying speed. He forced his eyes open, and a sight beyond expectation unfurled before him.

It was a deep?blue boundless sky, strewn with faint, distant stars. A radiance so fierce it could not be gazed at shone down from overhead. Bologue struggled to lift his head; pure light flooded his vision.

The sun.

The burning white sun hung directly above Bologue’s head. This time, with no atmosphere to veil it, it was so starkly clear, searing his body, driving tears unbidden to his eyes.

He twisted his body, looking down. He was high within the ten?thousand?meter atmosphere, like a free bird, gazing upon the magnificent world below.

The vast ocean had become an endless blue; under sunlight the surface glittered, like innumerable diamonds scattered on azure silk. Waves, stirred by the wind, rose and fell, cresting into white foam, each like a stroke of paint in some grand canvas.

Green plains crisscrossed with brown mountains, resembling huge stretches of dried skin. Cloud banks spread a white cover over them, gleaming under the sun.

Bologue’s mind drifted; his pupils dilated slightly. His feral killing intent evaporated, leaving only a profound calm within.

"What rotten luck..."

Bologue grumbled inwardly. He’d never imagined a Curved Pathway Rift would spit him out randomly at ten thousand meters above ground. All he could do now was pray he hadn’t been thrown too far from the battlefield.

Still... it wasn’t all bad. Few ever see such a view.

The majestic scenery slipped by in an instant as Bologue plunged toward the earth at high speed.

In his furious descent he not only saw unimaginable beauty, but also the pitch?black storm vault shrouding the land.

Bologue froze for a heartbeat. This might be the first time anyone had looked down upon the Dark Iron Curtain from such an exalted height. It resembled a necrotic wound eating into the planet’s crust, lightning and Thunder roiling within. Faintly, he could sense Ether in turmoil—that must be people clashing inside the clouds, locked in slaughter.

The Dark Iron Curtain was the true heart of the battlefield. End this Extraordinary Disaster, let sunlight pour onto the earth, and that blazing radiance would incinerate all forbidden life.

Such an offensive was tantamount to a mass extinction, far more efficient than the melee along the shoreline.

"Do you have any way to slow us down?!"

Bologue shouted to Aimou. To escape the Curved Path Void Bubble he had already burned away all his Void Shedding Sword Oil; he had no way to open another Curved Pathway Rift and relocate.

"How would I know?!"

Aimou screamed in his mind. To fuel Luminous Scorch she had nearly drained the Ether in her body, barely maintaining Heart Overlapping Shadow.

"How about... we slow down with your body?" Aimou suggested. "You’re an Undead anyway!"

Bologue yelled back, cracking a grim joke with her. "But my death is going to be tragic—turned into meat paste, spread evenly across the ground!"

"Then what do you want to do?"

Bologue roused the last scraps of Ether in his body and asked Aimou, "Have you ever heard the saying? A strongman can’t lift himself."

"So?"

"So I’m going to try!"

Even as the words left his mouth, Deceitful Snake Scale Liquid poured out in full flood, weaving tight nets of Iron Wire beneath Bologue. Under gravity’s command they should have plunged downward with him, yet through the Power of Command he forced them to hang motionless in midair, becoming one braking mesh after another.

Impact!

At that insane velocity, each strand of Iron Wire became a racing Blade, cutting into Bologue’s body and carving crimson gashes. Blood flared in the air as his figure tumbled and jolted.

Keep hitting them—one net after another!

Bologue punched straight through multiple wire?meshes in succession, his Ether straining to support him and shave away speed. He was drenched in blood, yet undeniably he had slowed himself from a fatal terminal velocity, until at last he assembled a floating platform beneath his feet—matter held suspended by Commanding Matter—putting himself into a hovering state.

"That... that really was lethal..."

The chain of events had left Bologue dizzy and reeling, deprived of any chance to recover. Now, finally, he gained a moment to breathe and reset himself.

"Are you still going to throw yourself back into the fight?"

Aimou asked anxiously. She could feel how little Ether Bologue had left. If he dove into the Dark Iron Curtain and rejoined the battle, he wouldn’t last long.

"We’ve already secured our gains. Let the rest be handled by others."

Aimou continued. With the Throat of the Abyss withdrawn, the Rebellious Royal Court’s troop deployment had been cut off; the battle below was turning in their favor.

"I know, I know."

Bologue steadied his breathing. This was the highest he’d ever stood, and he actually felt a twinge of vertigo—a strangely novel sensation.

"I’ve always wanted to find a chance to test this."

Bologue spoke as he straightened. With his Ether exhausted, many wounds still gaped unhealed across his body, leaving him in a sorry state.

"To test this Ethereal Skill that hasn’t yet been formally created."

The last remaining Ether was marshaled and set ablaze; majestic radiance arose in Bologue’s eyes. He called to the vast Ether scattered through heaven and earth, issuing them orders with an overwhelmingly forceful Command.

In an instant, infinite Ether took Bologue as its origin, swirling toward him, collapsing inward.

Ethereal Siphon!
