Endless Debt Chapter 1581 - 97: Curved Path Void Bubble
Previously on Endless Debt...
It’s the same catastrophic evil, but there’s a huge difference between the Throat of the Abyss and the Beast of the Herd. The Beast of the Herd possesses an extraordinarily fearsome power for widespread destruction, and this power transfers and spreads further as creatures move, like a plague that can never be completely burned away.
Bologue has already glimpsed that horrifying power within the Abandoned Land. All life was consumed to extinction, leaving only barren, nutrient-less stones.
The Throat of the Abyss doesn’t have such direct destructive power, but in curved path shuttling, it holds an exceptionally strategic prowess, like a cunning assassin that slithers freely between pathways, leading troops in surprise attacks everywhere.
The difference in power has shaped two entirely different combat styles of calamity, also leading to the current retreat of the Throat of the Abyss... To it, this isn’t an escape at all, just a habit of tactical relocation.
Except under Mammon’s necessary orders, the Throat of the Abyss never engages the enemy head-on. It only craftily shuttles between various rifts, waiting for the moment to deliver a fatal strike.
Bologue couldn’t help but muse that its sinister stance bears a curious resemblance to its master Mammon, provoking endless fury.
"It slipped away!"
Aimou exclaimed, and the hook shot rapidly forward, but before it could hit, the Throat of the Abyss vanished into the shadows like an apparition, diving into the curved pathway rift and disappearing.
Bologue growled angrily and took a few quick steps forward, but the pursuit idea vanished in a flash.
Aimou advised, "It’s time to stop."
"Hmm."
Though unwilling, Bologue understood Aimou’s instruction was correct.
The Throat of the Abyss is a cunning monster; no one knows whether this might be a trap it left behind, for if this rift leads directly to the Kagader Empire’s heartland... Bologue could foresee his powerless future.
"It’s truly regrettable."
Bologue moved his regenerated body, lamenting the missed rare opportunity to strike down the Throat of the Abyss. Unlike the Beast of the Herd, it doesn’t possess that extreme undying power; just a significant enough blow would suffice to eradicate this world-ending calamity.
If they could slay it here, it would smooth the Order Bureau’s subsequent operations significantly.
"Bologue, this lair is changing."
While Bologue was pondering, Aimou nudged him, ever vigilant of the surroundings. After all, this is the Throat of the Abyss’s home turf; it can escape and naturally stage a comeback. If it returns with a group of Seekers of Glory, Bologue and Aimou would only be able to flee in panic.
Bologue observed the area, seeing the curved pathway lair was shrinking bit by bit, the split pathway rifts gradually healing. Following the departure of the Throat of the Abyss, its surreal distortion of the pathways was reverting to normal.
"Remember the way we came!"
"Over there!"
Aimou directed Bologue, who turned and sprinted madly. He was unsure what would happen wrapped in the pathways — cut to pieces by chaotic space? Or completely lost here?
In any case, that’s certainly no good.
In the surrounding darkness, something seemed to be writhing, an elongated, changing space — the twisting, extending pathway.
To facilitate connecting numerous pathway rifts, the Throat of the Abyss would create its lair within the loop, much like squeezing a bubble out of water. Now, the Throat of the Abyss has left, and the bubble is being refilled.
"At least... at least we’ve halted the Rebellious Royal Court’s offensive."
Bologue panted, as the curved path void bubble vanished, those connecting the Land of Eternal Night and Wind Source Highlands’ pathway rifts will undoubtedly heal again. In other words, although they didn’t slay the Throat of the Abyss, Bologue’s tactical goal was achieved.
Suddenly, Aimou cried out, "Watch out! Bologue!"
A strong etheric reaction emanated from behind Bologue, something was writhing rapidly in the bizarre darkness, closing in quickly.
Bologue turned, wielding his weapon "Grudge Bite" in front, and after a metallic clang, Bologue was knocked several meters away by a powerful force. The black object continued its attack, like a python biting its prey, stabbing Bologue’s body from various tricky angles, but all were blocked precisely by Grudge Bite.
Dazzling sparks continued endlessly, using this faint light, Bologue barely discerned the outline of the dark object.
It was a bent shadow, edges sharp and clear, like black branches, yet like a shape-shifting Shadow Blade. Bologue recognized this weapon.
Regent King!
A familiar mocking voice came from the darkness, the Shadow Blade retracted into the shadows and disappeared. Bologue stood cautiously in place, realizing seconds later that he had been tricked.
This was the Regent King’s attack through the pathway, but he hadn’t entered himself. The Regent King’s aim was simple, just to slow Bologue down a bit.
Now the Regent King’s goal was achieved. When Bologue looked at the curved pathway rift from where they came, it had nearly healed completely, leaving only a faint scar visible in the darkness.
A massive silence once again squeezed Bologue inwardly; he felt the surrounding darkness akin to a wall continuously closing in, threatening to envelop and tear him apart.
A sound of dense tapping echoed incessantly, as if countless limbs crawled across the ground. Bologue guessed the pale worm had returned, hiding in the corner, waiting for him to be fully engulfed by the pathway, then consume him whole.
