Endless Debt Chapter 1580 - 96: Full-Scale Ignition
Previously on Endless Debt...
After acting with Bologue for a long time, Aimou more or less understood Bologue’s habits in battle.
Sometimes Bologue would give up some efficiency, choosing to personally wield the sword and enjoy the sensation of sword and blood. Other times, he would focus intensely on efficiency, like a machine, crushing flesh and bone. There were also times when he would fight while verbally attacking his opponents, not only harming their bodies but also devastating their minds.
It was strange, Bologue seemed like a contradictory complex, rational yet mad, valuing efficiency while intentionally indulging in the twisted pleasure of violence.
Aimou often worried that Bologue would turn into a bloodthirsty lunatic, but after each battle, he was astonishingly calm. For all his brutal acts in battle, he could come up with well-reasoned explanations to justify everything.
However, Aimou was sure that in their long battles, she rarely saw such a Bologue; no signs, no preparations, just like a sudden rush of blood to the head, performing acts of unimaginable madness.
Ignite the light scorch.
"Oh my God! You really are mad!"
Aimou knew well what kind of disaster activating the Crystal Core would cause. She understood that under these circumstances, triggering this disaster was just right, but... she still found it difficult to accept.
It’s like having a button in front of you that could destroy an entire city; anyone would hesitate a bit, but Bologue would raise his hand and smash down hard.
Screaming nonstop, Aimou still fully supported Bologue’s action, the already scarce Ether in her body rapidly being drawn away by Bologue, all poured into the Crystal Core.
The glow blazed, flashing brilliantly.
In an instant, unrestrained flames broke free from the Crystal Core’s confinement, burning like crimson fur, like the rapidly expanding blazing sun, engulfing everything around.
Bologue’s entire arm was devoured by absolute flame and light, his flesh rapidly stripped away and then healed, as if holding a burning star. The intense light filled Bologue’s entire vision, all things melting, flowing out like molten metal.
The piercing howls echoed throughout the Nest; the Throat of the Abyss recognized this horrific flame. In its long life, few things could harm it, and this light scorch was one of them.
Witnessing the sun’s expansion, the Throat of the Abyss momentarily felt phantom pains on its scars, as if the once extinguished flames reignited, burning its flesh from inside out.
It tried to escape, only to see the blaze rapidly magnifying right before its eyes.
Bologue roared low, his charred hand gripping tight to the Crystal Core, an immense amount of Ether guiding the direction of the burning light scorch, until it was restrained into a colossal Fire Sword reaching from the sky to the ground.
The light scorch enveloped the Throat of the Abyss.
A scent of scorched flesh filled the air, rising and swirling, even starting to twist and vibrate, forming a powerful airflow under the acceleration of heat.
Heat waves lingered, turning into a storm.
The scorching heat waves were like a huge arm, fiercely sweeping across the Throat of the Abyss’s body. The creature rolled and roared, trying to escape, but in this Curved Nest, it had nowhere to hide.
The overflowing storm sucked everything encountered into it; under extreme scorching, wisps of white gas rose from the Throat of the Abyss’s surface, as the moisture in its body rapidly evaporated. Its pale, smooth skin shriveled, like cracked, dry ground, with the gaps filled with tender, bright red flesh.
The light scorch surged like a flood, rampaging through the Nest, rushing out from the Curved Pathway Rift where Bologue had come, a sky-piercing column of fire rising from the Fortress of the Morning Wind, the scorching heat evaporating the rain, heat waves rushing forth.
On the other side, the light scorch incinerated the Bloodthirsties’ bodies, erupting from the darkness’ end, releasing an equally striking flame reaching the sky in the distant Land of Eternal Night, illuminating the gray world.
"What is that?"
Devon looked up, gazing from afar at the blazing flame rising above the Royal City, that flame so dazzling, like world-cleansing sacred fire.
"The sun! The sun!"
A cheer erupted from the prison cart; Melissa struggled to stick her head out, cheering toward the flame.
The deformed world nurtured Melissa’s deformed worldview. She looked at the flame and couldn’t help but kneel, hands clasped in prayer.
"So the sun has always been there... just imprisoned underground in the darkness."
Melissa muttered to herself, mistakenly thinking the sun was beneath the Royal City, the erupting flame merely a strand of its endless radiance.
The blood citizens around heard Melissa’s words; many among them were church believers. They flocked over, vying to see that vivid color.
"The sun! The sun!"
They went madly, reaching their hands through the gaps, cheering in unison.
"Silence!"
Blood Tax officials hammered on the cell, beating those extended arms, trying to quiet these people. But this time, they didn’t hear the familiar wailing, only fervent shouts, with eyes full of tears.
"Calm down! Everyone!"
The piercing sound rang out, drowning the cheers of everyone. Melissa turned her head and saw the priest squeezing out from the crowded crowd. He was still alive.
"Look! Everyone, the sun is about to break free!" The priest said joyfully, "The sunlight is about to pierce the gloom!"
"The sun!"
The believers began to shout once more, their voices like waves, one following another.
In the frenzy of faith, Devon couldn’t empathize with them; he knew it wasn’t the so-called sun... He wished to believe it was the sun; staying clear-headed in the ruthless world was a difficult thing, and Devon longed for numbness.
"The sun!"
Another cheer erupted, but this sound didn’t come from the prison wagon in front of him. Rather, it came from further away, from other groups of blood citizens.
Devon looked over in surprise, and more cheers rang out. Besides the sun, there were others shouting different words, their voices somewhat indistinct. Devon couldn’t distinguish them, but he thought, even if the language was different and the terms varied, what these people called on should be the same thing.
In this gray world, when people prayed for the descent of some supernatural power to save them from peril, everyone’s thoughts coincided and merged together.
As he gazed at the gradually extinguishing flame, Devon muttered, "The sun..."
Violent tremors spread within the Royal City. The Regent King shifted his gaze from the Butcher’s Pit, looking at the raging flames, his mood involuntarily turning tense. That was precisely where the Legion gathered and moved forward, and there, the Throat of the Abyss opened several Curved Pathway Rifts crossing the sea.
Trick asked, "What’s happening?"
The Regent King squinted, suspiciously, "It seems some impatient folks are trying to bypass the Curved Pathway Rift and directly reach the Land of Eternal Night."
The passage was two-way. Since the Rebellious Royal Court’s army could reach the Fortress of the Morning Wind directly, warriors from Wind Source Highlands could naturally use this to counterattack the Land of Eternal Night.
Trick asked, "Should we close the Curved Pathway Rift?"
"No hurry."
The Regent King spoke, drawing out the wriggling black Shadow Blade from his bosom.
Countless sparks scattered from the sky, like red snow, or burned-through ashes.
The light scorched the bloodthirsty figures, initially just burning pain, then wisps of flame rose up once again.
Like the Blood and Flesh Plague corroding inorganic matter, the light scorching like an unstoppable curse fire spread rapidly among the bloodthirsty ones, triggering a chain of incinerations.
Bologue’s power naturally couldn’t compare to the light matrix crafted by King Solomon, nor had the endless ether of the Ethereal Realm to support it, but the leftover etherealization acted as the final fuel, still to a large extent burning the entire enemy army.
Until the ether was completely consumed, the flames subsided back into the Curved Pathway Rift, while in the dark nest, the light scorched Bologue’s remaining ether dry.
After a flash of light, Bologue, body charred and calcified, stepped out of the dying flames. He leaned on the Grudge Bite, his path ahead was the equally burnt and scarred Throat of the Abyss.
"Bologue!"
Once more, Bologue heard the call of the Throat of the Abyss, this time filled with venomous resentment and hatred. It shook itself, its charred body slowly healing, chunks of carbon shedding like scales from its body.
Dots of eerie blue starlight hovered around Bologue. With a hoarse voice, Bologue inhaled forcefully, the soul shards within fully burning, converting into scorching ether, once again filling Bologue’s Alchemy Matrix.
Although unable to restore Bologue’s ether to peak levels, it was enough to support his upcoming battle. The Blessing: Time Reversing Axis also swiftly healed Bologue’s body under the support of the ether.
The scraggly body once again filled with flesh, the hunched back became erect, Bologue coughed twice, spitting out quite a bit of ash.
With full activation, the light’s power was indeed astonishing, not only depleting Bologue’s ether but also harming the Throat of the Abyss. But in full activation, the light’s power was no longer under Bologue’s control. If it were someone else, they would have perished in the sea of flames before killing the enemy.
"Still... still want to continue?"
Aimou asked cautiously, it was evident Bologue had intense hatred... no, a strong determination against the Throat of the Abyss.
"Yes."
Bologue coldly replied, raising the Grudge Bite once again, moving forward. He still had many means yet to be used, nowhere near his limits.
The Throat of the Abyss also sensed Bologue’s relentless intent, retreating two steps and tearing open a Curved Pathway Rift.
"You scoundrel!"
Bologue roared as he advanced, at which time the Throat of the Abyss had already burrowed in more than halfway into its body. This cunning creature wasn’t planning to continue entangling with Bologue.
The Deceitful Snake Scale Liquid swiftly flung out, entangling into a spiral anchor point in the air, rapidly bursting forth.
