Cang Ling’s body stiffened slightly. He looked at the empty riverbank she was pointing toward before lowering his gaze to the woman trembling in his arms.
A deep sense of helplessness filled his heart. Her condition was getting worse.
At first, she had merely suffered from nightmares and occasionally muttered in her sleep. Later, she began to imagine that someone was watching her. Now, she was even seeing people who weren’t there.
Cang Ling couldn’t bear to see her like this. He gently patted her back and tried to calm her down.
"Ruer, listen to me. Teacher isn’t here."
"But he was! I saw him!"
"That was your imagination. You have been worrying about this for so long that you have started seeing things that aren’t real."
Liang Rou shook her head violently."No! I’m not imagining it! He called my name! He called me Ruer!"
Cang Ling’s heart ached at the sight of her panic. He held her more tightly and continued speaking in a gentle voice."All right, all right. Don’t be afraid. Even if Teacher were here, he wouldn’t punish you."
Liang Rou looked up at him through her tears.
"Really?"
"Really." Cang Ling forced himself to smile. "Teacher has already forgiven you. You don’t need to keep worrying about it. Whatever happened in the past is over now. You don’t have to be afraid anymore."
He had no idea whether his words could ease her suffering, but he couldn’t bear to watch her continue breaking down.
Hidden nearby, Teng Yunxiao listened to every word. His expression became increasingly bewildered.
Teacher had forgiven her?
What exactly was he supposed to have forgiven them for?
He looked at Cang Ling, his old disciple, who was now holding Liang Rou in his arms and comforting her as though she were on the verge of losing her mind.
For a moment, Teng Yunxiao wanted to step forward and reveal himself. He wanted to ask Cang Ling what had happened and why Liang Rou was so frightened of him.
But he stopped himself.
Something was wrong here.
Both Liang Rou and Cang Ling seemed convinced that they had done something terrible, yet neither of them was behaving as though they expected him to appear in person. Instead, Cang Ling was trying to convince Liang Rou that she had imagined seeing him.
Teng Yunxiao couldn’t make sense of it.
He had only just returned. He hadn’t even had the chance to meet his disciple, so how could he possibly understand what had happened between them?
After hesitating for a moment, he slowly took a step back.
Then another.
He decided it would be better to investigate quietly before revealing himself. Until he understood what had happened, he couldn’t risk making things worse.
With that thought, Teng Yunxiao concealed his presence completely and disappeared from the riverbank.

An Mo was bored.
Extremely bored.
Bored to the point that he was beginning to wonder whether Uncle Teng had secretly abandoned him on this tiny patch of land and flown away to enjoy himself.
He had been waiting for what felt like an eternity, yet Teng Yunxiao still hadn’t returned.
Where had that old man gone?
Had he found his disciple? Had something happened? Or had he simply forgotten that there was a poor, helpless man waiting here for him?
After wandering around a little longer, An Mo finally squatted down in his original spot. Since he had nothing better to do, he decided to inspect the ground.
And that was when he discovered a treasure trove!
Beautiful seashells and colorful sea stones were scattered across the sand. Some were as white as snow, while others had delicate pink patterns. A few even shimmered with a faint, pearly glow beneath the sunlight.
An Mo immediately picked one up and examined it carefully.
"Not bad! This is beautiful!"
His boredom vanished in an instant.
After all, he hadn’t come all this way merely to stand around doing nothing. If he was going to visit the deep abyss, he might as well bring something nice back for his female, Lan Lan!
Just imagining her happy expression when she received his gifts made An Mo grin. His female was so lovely. Naturally, she deserved the most beautiful things in the world!
"Lan Lan would definitely like this one!"
He picked up a pink shell and rubbed it gently between his fingers.
Soon, An Mo had completely forgotten about Tang Yunxiao. He was now a devoted mate on an important mission to collect beautiful gifts for his beloved female.
"This one can be made into a necklace. These smaller ones can be used to decorate her hair ornaments. And these colorful stones..." He turned one over in his palm, his eyes shining. "I can have someone polish them and make a bracelet for her!"
The more he thought about it, the more excited he became.
He could already imagine Lan Lan wearing a necklace made from these beautiful shells. Perhaps she would smile at him, hug his arm, and praise him for being such a thoughtful mate!
An Mo’s smile grew wider.
"Hehe. Lan Lan will definitely be impressed!"
"Good things must be saved for my female!"
He muttered happily while reaching for another shell.
Unfortunately, in his excitement, he gradually moved closer and closer to the sea.
Soon, the seawater began washing over his feet.
An Mo didn’t even notice. His entire attention was focused on a gorgeous blue-green stone half-buried in the wet sand.
"Wonderful! This color is perfect! Lan Lan will definitely like it!"
He bent down to pick it up.
Splash!
A small head suddenly poked out of the sea right in front of him.
"AH!"
"What the hell?!"
The little head blinked at him.
An Mo blinked back.
For a moment, the two of them stared at each other. Then An Mo suddenly noticed that the seawater had already submerged half his knees.
His smile froze.
Oh, no!
He had been so busy collecting gifts for Lan Lan that he had practically walked into the sea!
Had he been discovered?
Had the members of the Primordial Tide Clan sensed his presence?
If he got caught here, would he still be able to return home with his precious gifts?
An Mo immediately became nervous that Uncle Teng would be furious with him. However, when he looked at the little head poking out of the water, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
It was only a cub!
The little cub continued staring at him with bright, curious eyes.
An Mo’s expression immediately changed. He smiled proudly and lifted his chin.
"Little cub, what are you looking at? Have you never seen a handsome uncle before?"
