Apocalypse: King of Zombies Chapter 1608: Six Against One

Ethan gave the newcomer a strange look.
It was Theron, the man he had met in the Cathay Republic.
His appearance was both unexpected and perfectly reasonable.
Back in the Cathay Republic, Theron had disapproved of nearly everything Ethan did. The Beast Sovereign had even injured him and forced him to flee. After all that, Ethan certainly hadn’t expected the man to show up and help them.
But Theron had always been determined to protect humanity. He would never stand by and watch the remaining pure-blooded humans in New Atlas die.
Ethan suspected he had been observing from the shadows all along and only revealed himself once it became clear they couldn’t hold out.
Whatever the reason, Theron had come to help, and Ethan owed him for it. Without him, there was no way they could win this battle. With the Beast Sovereign occupied, they had no one capable of handling the other peak Tier 47 fighter.
"Thanks, Theron!" Ethan called out.
Theron completely ignored him and continued hammering the Voltari leader with attacks.
Ethan awkwardly rubbed his nose.
What a tsundere.
Shaking his head, he turned his attention to the other Voltari fighters.
Theron had stopped their biggest problem, but that didn’t mean the crisis was over.
The Voltari lineup was far too powerful. Aside from the two fighters at the peak of Tier 47, they still had four at Tier 47 and six at Tier 46.
Each of the four Tier 47 fighters was being held off by one of the three Tier 47 Outland Beasts or Abyron. The six Tier 46 fighters were surrounding the marked woman.
The short Thalorin Patriarch remained where he was, uncertain what to do.
The Voltari woman had only ordered her people to kill the marked woman, not him, so none of them had attacked him.
He had intended to submit to the Voltari, but after another peak Tier 47 fighter appeared on humanity’s side and tied down the Voltari leader, he began to reconsider.
Who wanted to become someone else’s slave?
He had only lowered his head because the Voltari were overwhelmingly powerful. Now that they no longer seemed to have much of an advantage, he had no desire to submit.
"What are you standing around for?" the Voltari leader demanded coldly. "Weren’t you going to serve the Voltari? Then get to work!"
The short man trembled. He was clearly terrified of the Voltari leader.
But after surveying the battlefield, he still hesitated.
Thud!
A figure crashed to the ground at his feet.
The marked woman had already been badly injured. Surrounded by six Tier 46 fighters, she finally gave out and was sent flying once again.
"Hey, shorty. Finish her off," one of the Tier 46 Voltari ordered.
The short man’s expression darkened.
A mere Tier 46 dared speak to him like that?
But if he truly became a Voltari slave, even one of their servants would probably outrank him, let alone a Tier 46 fighter.
His hesitation gradually disappeared.
The marked woman lay on the ground, staring up at him and silently begging for help.
The short man made his decision.
"You people can keep playing. I’m out of here!"
He turned and fled into the distance at full speed.
Better her than him. Staying alive came first!
"You’re courting death!"
The Voltari leader flew into a rage. He immediately broke away from Theron and chased after the fleeing man.
Theron made no attempt to stop him. His goal was to protect humanity. Why would he interfere when two enemies were turning on each other?
The short man was dumbfounded when he saw the Voltari leader racing toward him. He looked back at Theron in confusion, as if asking why he had let the man get away.
Theron acted as though none of this had anything to do with him. He didn’t even glance in the short man’s direction.
The Voltari leader was already catching up.
"My lord, I was wrong!" the short man shouted desperately. "I submit! I’m willing to submit!"
But the Voltari leader clearly had no intention of trusting him again. Bolt after bolt of purple lightning struck the short man.
The Voltari leader was domineering by nature, and nothing infuriated him more than being deceived. The short man had crossed his bottom line.
Under the Voltari leader’s furious assault, the short man was reduced to a miserable state. He begged for mercy again and again, but the Voltari leader ignored every plea.
In the end, he couldn’t hold on any longer and suffered the same fate as the teal-haired Verdant Patriarch.
Theron watched from a short distance without intervening.
He had considered attacking the other Voltari fighters, but soon realized the Voltari leader’s attention had never truly left him. If he made a move against any of them, the man would abandon his pursuit and come back to stop him.
That might allow the short man to escape.
Theron had no intention of letting that happen. The short man was also an enemy of humanity, so Theron was perfectly content to watch him die.
Only after the Voltari leader killed him did Theron appear in front of the man again.
"Now that you’re finished, let’s continue."
The Voltari leader studied him closely.
"Why are you so determined to stop me? You must realize that if this battle continues, you’ll be the one who loses."
"I know. But your wife can’t defeat that Outland Beast. I’m confident she’ll lose first," Theron replied indifferently.
The Voltari leader fell silent.
"Why insist on helping these Outland Beasts? Join me in killing them, and we’ll split their crystal cores evenly. What do you say?"
"No. I’m not helping the Outland Beasts. I’m helping humanity," Theron emphasized.
"I have no grudge against those humans. My targets are the Outland Beasts. If you stay out of this, I won’t attack the humans. How does that sound?"
Theron shook his head again.
"That won’t work. These Outland Beasts helped humanity, so I can’t let you kill them."
The Voltari leader’s face darkened.
"Then I’ll deal with you first!"
Terrifying bolts of lightning crashed toward Theron.
Theron waved a hand, creating a barrier above his head. At the same time, a massive energy sword formed and slashed toward the Voltari leader.
The two peak Tier 47 fighters clashed once more.
With the short man dead, the six Tier 46 Voltari turned their attention back to the marked woman.
Ethan’s eyes flickered as he watched them close in.
He had to intervene. If the marked woman died, their situation would become even worse.
But facing six Tier 46 fighters?
Ethan really didn’t like those odds.
