A unicorn confronts Garrett in his laboratory, angered by the dissection of another unicorn, Nana. Garrett defends his actions, explaining Nana was already dead and her body was needed for research into diseases from the Elven Secret Realm. Elder Fahim intervenes, calming the situation and then attempting to heal Fira, another unicorn suffering from a similar, old wound. Though Fahim stabilizes Fira, he cannot fully heal the strange growth on her back and asks Garrett, a healer with a different expertise, for his help. Garrett agrees to help if the unicorns permit him, further clarifying his research methods and intentions.

The unicorns' whinnies echoed incessantly.

Long and short calls, sometimes low and somber, sometimes high-pitched, accompanied by the sound of hooves scraping the ground, snorts, and the whirring of their spiral horns. Standing before them, without some level of confidence, one might indeed feel a bit uneasy.

Yet, Garrett stood still, his posture upright and his gaze steady, looking directly at the injured unicorn across from him. He had no qualms about dissecting corpses, could withstand the first wave in a fight, but treating the sick?

When it comes to treating the sick, who’s begging whom?

The unicorns conversed for quite some time before they finally quieted down. The lead unicorn snorted, took two steps forward, and faced Garrett, speaking softly:

"Young healer, my name is Etto. This is Dorsy and Mesa. Dorsy intruded into your lab earlier—it was his fault, I apologize. And... are you sure you didn't kill Nana?"

"It wasn't me," Garrett responded calmly, taking the opportunity to explain the situation once again:

"I killed a knight of the Radiant Church and found the body in his space bag. If you want to see it, I still have the knight’s body with me."

"If possible, we would appreciate it," the unicorn lowered its head slightly. Garrett nodded, patted his space bag, and a corpse fell to the ground.

The unicorns gathered around, their nostrils flaring as they used their horns to inspect the body, conversing quietly among themselves.

Garrett, not understanding the unicorns' language, could only stand idly by. When he glanced over, he noticed that Elder Fahim and Anari Linga were both deeply focused, clearly understanding the conversation. The Elder even nodded at Garrett and smiled after a moment.

Well… living for a long time sure is impressive, being able to understand everything...

Before Garrett could finish his internal monologue, the unicorn Etto raised its head. The electrical currents on its spiral horn dissipated, and its deep blue eyes looked at Garrett with a gentle expression:

"It was indeed a knight of the Radiant Church. We felt the resentment of our kin on him, and we also sensed your presence. —Young healer, thank you for avenging Nana."

Uh… avenging might be an exaggeration… Garrett smiled and waved his hand. Etto continued:

"We unicorns do things differently from you; we follow different laws. Perhaps your actions of dissecting—what you call 'dissecting'—Nana's body had reasons that you deemed necessary, though we don’t fully understand them. But…"

He turned his head gently, looking at Fira with soft eyes, a breath of white air puffing from his nostrils:

"Compared to the deceased, the living are always more important. Young healer, I would like to know, could your dissection possibly help in treating Fira?"

"It might, but I can't be sure," Garrett nodded seriously:

"But I did detect some abnormal signs from Nana’s body, which might be helpful in the treatment."

"Then we ask for your help," Etto sincerely bowed his knees and lifted his head to meet Garrett’s gaze:

"The polluted area is expanding, and for the past twenty years, no new unicorns have been born in the forest. Every member of our species is precious. Young healer, please help Fira, even if you can only alleviate her condition slightly."

With this request, Garrett was more than willing to roll up his sleeves and assist. He first performed an ultrasound on Fira, while Elder Fahim, with one hand on his thesis and the other on the imaging map, studied along:

"Does this require shaving and oiling? So troublesome… What are these black and white images… So, these are blood vessels? Ah, this method is quite convenient… With this, even cutting is not scary anymore…"

After the ultrasound, they proceeded with a CT scan. Garrett then realized that even the ancient tree sealing Jasmine's father was of legendary rank—at the very least, its energy level was at the legendary tier.

Standing beneath it, with his feet on a floating disc slowly rotating, he could easily perform a CT scan without needing to borrow Elder Fahim's staff!

The three unicorns stood in a row, watching Garrett’s fingers move, sketching out a unicorn-shaped light image.

The horn was distinct, the bones were clear, the organs were visible, and even the mass beneath Fira’s shoulder, deeply embedded in the muscle with several blood vessels entangled, could be seen clearly.

“Like this…”

Elder Fahim narrowed his eyes slightly. Observing a patient from this perspective was something he had never done before, yet the benefits were obvious at a glance. As he pondered how to learn this spell and what spell he could trade for it, he nodded repeatedly:

“With this, I might be able to find a way to remove the tumor from Fira’s shoulder. Hmm…”

Nodding at times, shaking his head at others, sometimes frowning, sometimes relaxing. Fira's condition was still not good, and even with surgery, it was unclear if she could endure it… The healing power of nature also has its limits…

"Do you need my help?"

Garrett asked softly beside him. Elder Fahim let out a breath of relief and nodded quickly: "No problem, no problem! It's great that you're willing to help!" He glanced at the unicorns beside him:

"Do you agree to let him help?"

The unicorns exchanged glances. Fira let out a soft whinny and lowered her head. It was still Etto who bowed his head and said:

"Thank you, young healer. If you can help heal Fira, our kin will forever be grateful for your kindness."

Since the request was made formally, Garrett naturally wouldn’t turn away a patient—or rather, a sick unicorn. He rolled up his sleeves and joined Elder Fahim in preparing for the treatment:

They set up an operating room, hung a shadowless lamp, and prepared the operating table. The operating table for a quadruped animal is different from that of a human, so they specially adjusted the shape of the floating disc, allowing Fira to lie down on it, and then carefully shaved the fur around the surgical area.

"Incise the skin."

"Incise the subcutaneous tissue."

"Don’t directly use the scalpel to gouge; follow the capsule and separate it bit by bit, slowly… Elder, use a spell to contain the aura within the cyst, don’t let it leak out… Make it float, use Levitation or something else…”

Thanks to knight training and Aishe Moon Song's shapeshifting spell training, Garrett felt that his strength had increased significantly over the past few days, at least enough to steadily incise the unicorn’s skin.

The scalpel and the surgical tools formed by the mage hand moved fluidly between his fingers. Skin incision, vessel clamping, blunt dissection of the capsule, hemostasis with healing spells. Incising the diseased muscle, scraping off the blackened periosteum, removing the diseased bone…

Having previously dissected a unicorn, Garrett had a rough idea of the injury, so he was confident in his actions.

Elder Fahim stood by, assisting only with healing spells. In less than an hour, the black mass was floating on the disc.

With a swoosh, the three unicorns rushed forward to see. Faster than them, however, was Cirilla, who had been playing in the woods all day and had just returned:

"Garrett! You’re treating a unicorn? Why didn’t you call me?!"
