A Hospital in Another World? Chapter 1086: Garrett, Can You Help Heal the Unicorn?
Previously on A Hospital in Another World?...
The unicorn lowered its head, its sharp horn crackling with electricity, and Garrett immediately stood up. With a flick of his fingers, he activated layer after layer of defensive magic in an instant:
Anti-Magic Barrier, Advanced Mage Armor, Force Field Barrier, Ray Deflection...
One layer after another, he cast his spells, until he had four layers of "eggshells" protecting him. In his hand, he held a 【Radiant Shield】, ready to be unleashed.
At the same time, the small silver lightning cat leapt lightly onto his shoulder and waved a paw at the unicorn:
"Meow—"
The angry unicorn paused. The unicorn had two major weapons: a wild charge and the ability to control lightning. Charging at a spellcaster like Garrett, who had already set up barriers, might not be successful.
As for lightning? The sight of the small silver cat, with its body charged with violent lightning energy, caused the unicorn to instinctively shrink back in fear the moment it laid eyes on it.
"Move aside! Don't damage the microscope!" Garrett, feeling secure behind his defensive spells, began to scold. While reprimanding, he moved towards Elder Fahim:
"Elder, why is it that anyone can just walk into my laboratory?"
Elder Fahim looked slightly embarrassed. Emotionally, Garrett was his younger clan member, and these unicorns were his friends, so he didn't want them to fight.
Logically, a mage's laboratory was their own domain; trespassing could very well justify being killed. And Garrett had dissected a unicorn's body, so it was understandable why the other unicorns were angry.
As the host, he could only try to calm both sides:
"Don't be angry, don't be angry, let's all talk it out... come, let's talk outside..."
With arms outstretched, he first pushed the unicorn out the door, then pulled Garrett out as well. As soon as he stepped outside, before Garrett could speak, he raised a hand behind him, reinforcing the mage's cabin with another layer of protection.
Garrett knew this was to ease his mind and gave him a smile, following him step by step toward the group of unicorns. When they were still about ten paces away, Elder Fahim raised a hand slightly, and an invisible ripple spread out quietly.
Garrett felt the tension on his shoulders ease, and he exhaled a long breath. Opposite him, the angry unicorns, who had been pawing the ground with their hooves, also relaxed their taut shoulder muscles.
This calming spell, when used by a legendary master, was indeed as effortless as lifting a feather, with no trace of effort. Seeing the situation ease, Elder Fahim slowly spoke:
"Don't rush, don't rush. —Where is Fira? Did you bring her?"
Three unicorns stepped aside, revealing a unicorn lying on the ground with a circle of charred blackness on its back. Above the charred area, a large lump of flesh was bulging and moving, a shocking sight.
It no longer had the strength to stand, and even its breathing was shallow. When it saw Elder Fahim, it nodded slightly, large tears rolling down from its eyes.
"It's alright, it's alright." Elder Fahim hurriedly stepped forward and patted Fira's head. As his palm fell, a hazy green light seeped in. Under everyone's watchful eyes, Fira's breathing stabilized somewhat.
A collective sigh of relief was heard. Elder Fahim stared at the charred area and the lump on Fira's back, frowning deeply as he continued to make gestures. Streams of faint light entered Fira's body, and after a while, he asked heavily:
"Was this injury caused by another secret realm?"
"It’s an old wound." The unicorn that had barged into Garrett's laboratory answered:
"It was a monster that came out of a secret realm. Fira fought it, killed it, but was also wounded... At the time, everyone thought she had recovered, leaving only a scar, but it has worsened over time..."
"This wound is very troublesome." Elder Fahim circled the unicorn, infusing it with strands of natural energy, his frown deepening:
"If you had come to me earlier, I might have been able to cure it completely. But now, the polluted energy has spread throughout her body... I can only use natural energy to protect her core, but I can't heal her entirely."
"Please, no matter what, help us." The leading unicorn lowered its head deeply, its horn nearly touching the ground. The other two unicorns also bowed their heads, and even Fira let out a low cry, struggling to lower her head.
Elder Fahim sighed heavily and reached out to the side. Anari Linga quickly handed him a wooden staff. He grasped it with both hands and began chanting softly. Linga stood behind him, chanting along, and even the unicorns lowered their heads, responding with long, mournful cries.
Only Garrett had nothing to say or do. The chant rose in intensity, and soon, the surrounding leaves rustled, with countless pale green light spots rising from the trees, gathering at the top of the staff.
This was going to be a direct clash with natural energy... Garrett thought silently. From all directions, pale green light spots converged, eventually forming a small unicorn-shaped figure.
The green unicorn suddenly expanded, enveloping Fira within it and tightening its grip. Fira let out a cry of pain, and a series of light popping sounds could be heard, as if small explosions were going off within her flesh.
This treatment was painful but effective. With the infusion of natural energy, the blackened area on Fira's back visibly shrank. The lump on her back also reduced in size from the size of a melon to that of an apple.
She staggered to her feet. The three unicorns around her rushed over, nudging and licking her fur, showing signs of great joy.
"This is all I can do."
Elder Fahim sighed wearily:
"If her condition were better, I might have been able to try removing the lump on her shoulder. But now... the lump's roots are too deep, I can only contain it as much as possible..."
He then turned to Garrett, his eyes full of hope:
"Young healer, I've read your papers; you have considerable expertise in healing, and in a field very different from mine. —Can you help?"
"Perhaps." Garrett stood firmly, meeting his gaze and nodding slightly:
"Of course, that is if they’re willing to let me help—"
He was met with a chorus of angry neighs. Garrett turned to the unicorns, his expression stern:
"First, I did not kill Nana. I acquired her body after killing a knight of the Radiant Church."
"Second, I dissected her body not out of disrespect, but to understand the strange diseases caused by the Elven Secret Realm. I have a clear conscience in this matter."
"Third, in my laboratory, there are many other monsters from the polluted area that I have dissected and studied. The elder can testify that I have not used any evil methods."
"Finally, Fira's injury is somewhat similar to what I observed in Nana. If you are willing, I can try to help; if not, I won't force it—I have plenty of other research to do."
