The older brother stared in shock as his little brother gobbled down the egg, but stopping him was already impossible. Worry and anxiety filled his heart.
"Brother, it's so delicious."
Upon hearing that, the older boy figured that with his brother having eaten it already, he should join in too. Even if death came, they wouldn't face it alone or perish as hungry ghosts.
Coming to that decision, he pulled a spoon from his pocket, wiped it clean, and used it to feed the egg to his brother. As they ate, the others kept their distance, afraid the boys might suddenly lose control.
A smile crossed Du Beiye's face watching them consume the egg. Unlike typical boiled eggs, this one brimmed with extra energy and stayed juicy. It wouldn't cause them to choke.
Thirty minutes passed before the Phantom Team members wrapped up their meal. Prior to departure, Du Beiye grabbed a sack, stuffing it with food and water.
As she offered the sack to the older boy, he paused only briefly before accepting it. Having eaten the egg, all fears were gone now.
Noticing him accept the supplies, Du Beiye grinned and murmured, "I hid a few sacks of food at the back of the hall. If you finish this, just go get more."
The younger boy caught her words and nodded. "Thank you, Pretty sister."
Du Beiye gave his head a gentle rub before departing, resuming the hunt for Wen Hanyu alongside her team.
Every structure, street, and alley got thoroughly checked, yielding only forsaken supplies. Though her inventory slots had limits, the system's warehouse offered vast space. Gathering it all posed no issue.
The team accelerated their efforts, and only at 3 PM did they spot someone resembling Wen Hanyu.
The surrounding area here suffered less destruction than the city core. From afar, a man and woman emerged from a building.
Yuan Ruiyue glanced at Du Beiye and inquired, "Is that man our mission target?"
Du Beiye retrieved a photo from her inventory and matched it against the man. Moments later, she confirmed with a nod, "He is Wen Hanyu."
The team members acknowledged this and quickened their pace. Within under 10 minutes, they arrived at his spot.
"Wen Hanyu," Yuan Ruiyue called out.
His name rang out, prompting Wen Hanyu to whirl around on instinct, verifying who he was. Spotting the group, a flicker of astonishment lit his eyes briefly.
"Who are you? How do you know my name?" he demanded cautiously.
Yuan Ruiyue presented his ID card and explained, "We are members of the Phantom Team. We accepted a mission from Vice Commander Wen to bring his brother back to the Lin'an City Base."
"Vice Commander Wen?" Wen Hanyu whispered. Shortly after, he questioned, "Is this person Wen Hanli?"
"He is," Yuan Ruiyue nodded.
That confirmation hit, and Wen Hanyu spun to his girlfriend, exclaiming joyfully, "Xixi, we are safe now. They are my brother's people. We can go home!"
The abrupt joy left Shang Xixi dazed, needing time to collect herself. She eyed the group and probed, "Besides that metal card, do you have other proof?"
Mo Junjie arched his brows at her remark and shot back, "It's up to you whether to believe us or not. My team's mission target is only that man and not you. We will bring him back with or without you."
Worried they might abandon his girlfriend, Wen Hanyu hastily interjected, "Comrade, I apologize on behalf of my girlfriend. She didn't mean to offend you. It's just that we can't afford to trust anyone easily."
"Alright, now that we have found the mission target, we should regroup with our members," Yuan Ruiyue said.
Du Beiye agreed with a nod, pulling out her satellite phone. After texting her sister, she suggested, "I already sent our coordinates to my sister. Should we find a place to stay first?"
"Okay."
At those words, Shang Xixi furrowed her brow and pressed, "What are you waiting for? It's better to leave this place as soon as possible."
"Why are you in such a hurry?" Jian Huan asked curiously.
"The Red Cliff Base was destroyed, and those bugs might come to this place soon."
"You don't have to worry about that. Those bugs' attention is not on you," Du Beiye replied casually while checking her map.
As Shang Xixi fixed her gaze on her, she continued, "Brother Yuan, there is a gas station 500 meters from here. Let's stay there."
Yuan Ruiyue nodded and declared, "Let's go."
With the team set on their choice, Wen Hanyu and Shang Xixi had no option but to trail along. Roads ruined, they proceeded by foot. Half an hour later, they arrived at the gas station.
Prior to entering the gas station, Du Beiye warned, "There are mutants inside."
"How many?" Mo Junjie asked.
"7 people. The strongest one is a C-rank magician. The rest are D-rank brawlers."
In contrast to Qin Luzi, her system delivered details using the Tarakam Civilization's class and grade system. She had no means to inspect the opponents' levels.
Even if the team members couldn't detect the levels, they stood as A-rank mutants—two full ranks superior to the foes. Should the need arise, clashing with them posed no real threat, no matter the exact level gaps.
Yuan Ruiyue scanned the area briefly before stating, "We will only stay for a night. Ignore them."
The team members nodded their approval and strode toward the minimart. Noticing their utter nonchalance, Wen Hanyu and Shang Xixi traded meaningful glances.
As the members made for the minimart, Du Beiye headed to inspect the warehouse. Supplies filled it, yet no gas could be found. She paused in thought, then proceeded to the pumping section.
"Krayan, can you collect the underground tank?" she asked.
"Yes."
"Collect all the underground tanks."
