Simultaneously, Qin Luzi detected motion on his map and declared, "Captain, the first fish has taken the bait."
Upon hearing those words, Jin Xuyan nodded and instructed, "Yusheng, slice the meat thinner. There will be a lot of fish coming."
Yin Yusheng chuckled and looked toward Yu Fuyun. "Fuyun, did you hear that? Slice the meat thinner."
"Okay!" Yu Fuyun agreed with a nod, slowing his hands' motions. He cut the roasted meat with surgical precision, making slices so thin they were nearly see-through.
Observing this, Du Beiye furrowed his brow and questioned, "Can they even taste the meat at that thickness?"
"Beiye, it's not about letting them savor the meat—the goal is to trade it with them," Li Sikai explained while steadily rotating the spit to roast the meat uniformly.
Meanwhile, Zhou Huajian diligently applied sauce over the meat. Oil dripped off it, producing sizzling noises as it hit the flames.
With nothing else to occupy them, the other members shut their eyes and circulated their energy to solidify their energy pool.
After twenty minutes, Bryan and his squad finally showed up. Stepping out of their vehicle, they were shocked to find the others so casually at ease.
"Stay vigilant. These folks aren't ordinary," he warned his teammates. Approaching them, he grabbed Kelly’s wrist, holding her tightly by his side.
Noticing their arrival, Jin Xuyan looked at Pei Yixie. Catching her brother’s eyes, she nodded and flashed an "OK" gesture.
Halting two meters distant, Bryan sized up the Phantom Team briefly until Zhang Yuan rose and inquired in smooth Thirteen Colonies’ language, "Do you need anything?"
The instant Kelly laid eyes on them, excitement surged within her, urging her to speak. Yet before she advanced, Bryan restrained her. Narrowing his gaze, he yanked her backward.
Stepping ahead, he introduced himself, "My name is Bryan Roosevelt, Captain of Angelus Lux Team." Pausing briefly, he added, "Did your team eliminate all the zombies inside?"
Zhang Yuan nodded and countered, "Is there a problem with that?"
Bryan shook his head, eyeing the roasted meat. "I want to make a deal with your team."
At those words, Zhang Yuan grinned and probed, "Oh? What kind of deal?"
"I want to exchange crystal cores for mutant meat."
The team members traded looks upon hearing that.
Even without a word from them, the Angelus Lux Team sensed disdain from this bunch.
Lucas, the youngest core member and quick to anger, strode up furiously and demanded, "Are you looking down on us?"
Sensing his aggression, every Phantom Team member rose together, glaring at him like he was already doomed.
Initially, Bryan and his crew viewed these lean, shorter figures with eastern prejudice, dismissing the Phantom Team lightly.
However, facing the team's fierce presence and chilling killing intent, they recognized their own narrow thinking.
At just 18, Lucas had slain numerous zombies and mutants, but encountering elite soldiers for the first time unnerved him. He retreated several steps involuntarily.
The two teams locked eyes tensely in quiet standoff. Abruptly, Kelly lifted her hand, shattering the hush. "Comrade, please calm down."
Hearing their national tongue spoken so purely by the Phantom Team, they turned to the voice. Spotting the small-statured girl emerging from behind the striking blond giant, they froze in surprise.
Upon seeing her, Pei Yixie remarked, "Brother, she is from Huaxia. She wants to join us and return home."
Her words caused the team's killing aura to vanish at once. They always showed courtesy to guardians of their kin.
Zhang Yuan beamed, approaching Kelly and extending his hand. "Hello, Comrade. My name is Zhang Yuan, the Vice Captain of the Phantom Team from Lin’an City Base."
The mention of that well-known city filled Kelly with joy. She clasped his hand and shared, "Comrade Zhang, my name is Rong Qiaohui. Here, people call me Kelly."
"Rong Qiaohui?" Jiao Lizhi whispered. "Comrade Rong, do you know Rong Qinyu or Rong Mo’er?" she inquired eagerly.
Rong Qiaohui reacted instantly, "Comrade, you know about my brother and cousin?"
Stunned, Xiao Qi asked, "Are you Rong Qinyu’s sister?"
Rong Qiaohui nodded and pressed, "How are my brother and cousin? Are my family still alive?"
"Both Rong Qinyu and Rong Mo’er are thriving at the Lin’an City Base. We have no info on the other family members' locations or status," Qin Luzi answered.
That news dulled the spark in Rong Qiaohui’s eyes momentarily. Composing herself soon after, she stated, "Comrade, I want to go back to Huaxia. Can I follow you?"
Bryan’s fists balled up hard at her words. Though not proficient in Huaxia speech, he grasped most of the exchange.
From the night he witnessed her tearful dreams, he anticipated this parting. He'd steeled himself for it long ago, never confessing his emotions—especially with their wide age difference. He refused to compel her presence.
Jin Xuyan motioned them closer, speaking in Thirteen Colonies language, "Have a seat." He signaled Yin Yusheng, who set down multiple plates of thinly sliced roasted meat on the table.
Bryan nodded to his team and sat down. He beckoned Kelly to take the seat next to him as well.
