Upon listening to her sister's explanation, Du Beiye furrowed her brow and responded, "Switching on the system barrier shouldn't endanger you at all. We've triggered this barrier on countless occasions in the past, and you've never faced any issues."
"That's because I absorbed too many Sthanam crystals into my space. Once they're planted inside, they drain an excessive amount of mental energy, which might harm my brain's nerves."
"Does this base actually hold Sthanam crystals?" Du Beiye asked in surprise.
"Prior to your arrival on this planet, the Phantom Team accepted a task to gather some unknown metal near the edge of Luyang City. That's the moment I first acquired a Sthanam crystal since coming here."
"At that time, my memories hadn't returned yet, so I was unaware of the crystal's purpose. I turned over one-third of all the crystals to the base. Following that, I never inquired about how the base utilized them."
"Earlier today, I observed the Matkuna soldiers targeting a specific spot. After Gaia investigated the site, we discovered the Sthanam crystals hidden in the cellar."
Having listened to her sister's account, Du Beiye could somewhat infer what had occurred. "So, you stored every single crystal in your space and passed out from overexertion?"
"Actually, I didn't sense a thing. Once I blacked out, my awareness drifted in emptiness. With nothing else to occupy me, I simply dozed off in that void. Moments ago, Gaia roused me since my space had steadied itself," Jiao Lizhi answered with a grin.
Du Beiye gazed at her sister for an extended period before commenting, "You're far too impulsive. Have you forgotten the consequences for the Host if the system collapses?"
"I haven't forgotten, but in that moment, it was the most effective solution available."
"Sister, regardless of how many bugs swarm in, Xun Che and his team can manage them. This base belongs to everyone, not just you. You truly need to abandon that 'saintly' attitude of yours," Du Beiye advised with a heavy sigh.
Before her sister had a chance to counter her, she continued, "Your fiancé reached out while you were resting. You ought to return his call."
At those words, Jiao Lizhi ceased arguing with her sister and grabbed her satellite phone from the nightstand. The line connected after merely two rings.
"Ah Zhi, are you alright?"
Recognizing her fiancé's concerned tone, Jiao Lizhi smiled and assured him, "Brother Yan, I'm perfectly fine. No need to fret—I'm simply worn out and dozed off."
Jin Xuyan creased his forehead and pressed further, "Are you truly unharmed?"
Sensing his anxiety, she replied, "Yes, I'm genuinely okay. If you're skeptical, why don't I come over to you?"
Upon hearing that, Jin Xuyan finally exhaled in relief. After a brief hesitation, he added, "Ah Zhi, things look grim over here. The zombie numbers are surging, and we're stuck in the base, unable to hunt down the high-level zombies directing this swarm."
Jiao Lizhi was startled by his revelation. If her fiancé described the circumstances as dire, the reality had to be perilously severe. "Brother Yan, what's your strategy?" she inquired.
"I've already alerted Xun Che and requested backup. The issue lies in the abundance of ability-wielding zombies, including some that can take to the skies. Deploying military helicopters for reinforcements will prove challenging."
"Brother Yan, I'll head there to fetch you. We can disclose your teleportation power to Xun Che. That avoids relying on the chopper and cuts down on time," Jiao Lizhi proposed.
Jin Xuyan murmured in agreement and stated, "I had the identical idea. However, we'll resort to teleportation only if you're truly recovered."
"Teleportation isn't my personal skill but a function of my system. It draws on the system's energy alone, leaving me unaffected."
With that clarification, Jin Xuyan conceded, "Fine then. We'll proceed with your teleportation."
"I'll come get you first."
Jin Xuyan pondered briefly before replying, "Ah Zhi, we've got numerous civilians here, and the base is quite confined."
"Brother Yan, are you intending to relocate the civilians to Lin’an?" she questioned.
"I'm concerned about potential spies concealed among them. Bringing them to Lin’an means Xun Che can handle the vetting."
Jiao Lizhi offered no resistance to his suggestion and consented promptly. "Very well. We'll follow your lead."
Once they settled on the plan, they ended the conversation, and Jiao Lizhi sought out her sister. As she exited her room, she spotted Mo Junjie present as well.
Noticing him, she queried, "Brother Mo, what brings you here instead of recuperating at your quarters?"
"Beiye updated me on the events at Sanchou Base. We're all set to depart as soon as you're prepared."
The instant she processed this, Jiao Lizhi turned to her sister in astonishment.
"Sister, I shared the full details with him."
Among the group, Jiao Lizhi least anticipated her sister confiding everything in Mo Junjie. They'd been subtly guiding Feng Yun toward uncovering their hidden truths all along.
She felt truly taken aback by her sister's deep trust in Mo Junjie. After watching them closely for a bit, she detected an unusual warmth in Mo Junjie's gaze toward her sister.
"Does he perhaps harbor feelings for Beiye?" Jiao Lizhi wondered silently.
The notion struck her suddenly, yet it didn't seem unexpected. It dawned on her now that the bond between her sister and this man had evolved long ago.
Given her sister's faith in him, Jiao Lizhi decided to place her trust there too. She nodded and declared, "I'm off to retrieve Brother Yan. You two should join me. The conditions at Sanchou are worsening."
"Sister, we've completed all the arrangements. Time to head out," Du Beiye announced, rising to her feet.
Mo Junjie rose as well and extended his hand to clasp hers. The gesture flowed with such effortless intimacy, as though such closeness was entirely routine.
