Upon hearing Yao Zhi’s voice, Gaia responded,

"Energy?"

Jiao Lizhi pondered for a moment until a memory surfaced. "Is it the Sthanam crystal?"

Once they had reclaimed the Sthanam crystals from Luyang City’s border, she passed some over to Xun Che. Following that, she hadn’t inquired about their use.

Observing the events in Lunar City, it appeared the Matkuna soldiers were hunting for those Sthanam crystals. Drawing these insights, Jiao Lizhi vaulted off the wall and hurried to the spot indicated on the map.

Given that the bugs’ assault on the base stemmed from the crystals, she planned to stash them in her space. That should eliminate any cause for the bugs to keep attacking.

Meanwhile, Du Beiye reveled in her ferocious killing spree. Thanks to her sister supplying a hefty stock of Sthanam crystals, energy shortages were the least of her concerns.

Her mobile suit was designed specifically for battling hordes of foes. As she slaughtered the bugs, Krayan gathered and deposited them into the warehouse.

"Krayan, remember to gather their blood too. It’s key for the serum."

Obeying her command, Krayan scooped up even the blood splashed across the ground. The soil got filtered out once the blood was extracted.

Though she battled with such fluidity, the scene at the gate stood in stark contrast. Even with the metal wall erected by the mutants, it struggled to contain the Matkuna soldiers.

Crack! Kiittt!

The incessant clamor of sharp edges smashing against the metal walls had everyone on edge. Through the tight openings, the Matkuna soldiers crammed their forms with brute force.

Initially, this approach delayed their progress. Yet as time dragged on for hours, fissures appeared in the metal wall. Witnessing this, the defenders grew frantic. These aliens proved far tougher to combat than zombies.

With more Matkuna soldiers forcing their way through the breaches, one defender found himself overrun. After battling nonstop for hours, his endurance and energy had run dry. Now, sheer determination kept him going.

Spotting his plight, Wu Zimo commanded, "1st group, fall back to the base! 2nd group, advance to the front!"

No sooner had he spoken than the razor-sharp tip of a Matkuna soldier’s forelimb thrust toward him. He crossed his arms to deflect the strike.

CLANG!

The force sent tremors through his arms, shoving him back a few paces. Lifting his gaze, he met the gaze of multiple eyes from the Matkuna soldier.

As the creature parted its jaws, Wu Zimo’s eyes sharpened. He bent his knee and lunged ahead, striking the spot just below its head with a fist before it could unleash anything from its maw.

CRASH!

In contrast to the bug’s tougher sections, this spot felt oddly yielding. His gauntlet sliced through effortlessly, carving out a gaping hole. Instantly after, Wu Zimo channeled his energy, igniting a blaze that erupted from his fist.

Flames ravaged the bug’s innards, ensuring its total demise.

The entire sequence unfolded in under a minute. Surveying his surroundings, Wu Zimo noted the 1st group’s withdrawal and the 2nd group’s arrival.

With their support in place, he exhaled in relief and pulled back into the base. Concurrently, Jiang Mi along with a few training camp instructors assumed control.

Shortly after the 1st group withdrew inside, a squad of brawlers arrived bearing provisions of food and water. They handed out the essentials to all and transported wounded combatants to the infirmary.

In the meantime, teams of medical personnel hustled to wrap wounds for injured fighters and magicians near the wall. Those suffering grave harm received care from the healers.

As the battle raged on for everyone else, Jiao Lizhi reached the site where Xun Che had stashed the Sthanam crystals. She anticipated heavy security around the spot. To her surprise, upon arrival, the area stood deserted.

Scanning the surroundings, she detected no access point. "Gaia, where’s the way in?"

In response, Jiao Lizhi examined the wall briefly and located a concealed switch. Pressing it caused the wall to split down the middle and slide apart. Beyond lay a staircase descending underground.

Eyeing this, she arched an eyebrow and descended.

The instant her foot touched the floor, a massive heap of Sthanam crystals came into view, crammed into the subterranean vault. From the sheer volume, it looked like Xun Che hadn’t touched them whatsoever.

Deeming them useless to him, she swept them all into her possession. A twinge of remorse hit her, so she pulled out crates of level one and level two crystal cores from her space.

Once the vault neared capacity, she departed. The crystals offered ample recompense.

Mere moments after she cleared out the crystals, the Matkuna Commander emitted a string of shrill cries. Xun Che’s brow furrowed at the sound, and he warned, "Stay alert, everyone!"

While all braced for a massive assault from the bugs, the Matkuna soldiers abruptly withdrew. Du Beiye blinked in confusion and queried, "What’s happening?"

Seconds later, Krayan’s voice resounded in her thoughts.

"So these bugs truly came for the crystals." After dispatching yet another batch of bugs, she continued, "Now that they’re here, none get away. Krayan, engage the system barrier."

Simultaneously, Gaia’s voice rang in Jiao Lizhi’s mind.

Jiao Lizhi recognized this as her sister’s strategy. "Permission granted."

Her approval triggered Krayan’s voice in Du Beiye’s mind.
