The Phantom Team arrived at Sanchou Base via military chopper and assessed the mutant threats, detecting six level-four mutants in the tallest building amid hundreds of lower-level ones, with no common residents present. Jin Xuyan assigned members to repair the walls and clear snow and zombies inside the base while he secured the surrounding area. As the first groups of survivors approached, the team opened the gates after quick scans to detect infected individuals, spotting and isolating a middle-aged woman by forcing her to drink pond water, though she remained in danger and was tied up. From afar, the Mo siblings observed the operations, choosing to wait for their eldest brother's arrival despite concerns over the lack of thorough inspections.

After that, Xiao Qi stuffed a clean rag into her mouth and remarked, "Aunty, apologies for the rudeness. We're working to rescue you, so please endure it temporarily."

Though the middle-aged woman felt terrified, the forced intake of water had eased her condition considerably. Just as she assumed they might abandon her, something was pressed into her hand.

"Aunty, grip this crystal tightly. It could prove vital for your survival in a crisis," Xiao Qi advised her.

Once he confirmed the ropes were fastened properly, he departed to rejoin his teammates in searching for additional survivors.

One batch after another of survivors streamed into Sanchou Base relentlessly.

Nearly two hours had passed without any signs, leading everyone to suspect the Phantom Team's claims were false. Abruptly, distant zombie growls shattered the silence.

Perched atop the wall, Qin Luzi consulted his map and announced, "Captain, the zombies will reach us in thirty minutes."

Jin Xuyan gave a nod and inquired, "Any more survivors on the way?"

"Scattered survivors remain in the city, but based on their movements over the last two hours, they probably won't arrive," Qin Luzi replied with a shake of his head.

Upon hearing this, Jin Xuyan directed Wen Mo, "Shut the gate and secure the entryway."

Acting swiftly on the command, Wen Mo jumped down from the wall to position himself by the gate. He lifted his hand, channeling his power to manipulate the metal. In an instant, the enormous, weighty gate shifted and crashed closed.

BAM!

The impact vibrated the earth, the noise reverberating across the whole base. Immediately after, the metal gate morphed and fused seamlessly with the wall, eliminating any possible openings.

Witnessing this, the survivors comprehended that these individuals were far beyond their ability to challenge, and their warnings likely held truth.

The Phantom Team's members inspected the wall thoroughly to ensure no vulnerabilities remained. Right as they wrapped up, zombie roars intensified.

"ROAR!"

In contrast to mutant beasts, zombies felt neither fear nor agony. On this occasion, they advanced on Sanchou Base in disciplined formation, resembling troops obeying orders.

"Get ready for combat!" Jin Xuyan commanded.

With zombies approaching from all sides, the team divided to guard various sections of the wall.

Sanchou Base resembled a colosseum in design, making the tallest central structure the most secure spot. Survivors clustered in the open area adjacent to it, pressing close together. The zombie roars prompted them to stay utterly silent.

Simultaneously, Jin Xuyan scrutinized the zombies while using his walkie-talkie to relay to his team, "A high-level zombie must be directing these hordes. Locate its position."

"Affirmative."

Two minutes passed before the initial wave of zombies breached the 100-meter zone near the wall. Jin Xuyan lifted his hand, launching a huge black fireball that hurtled toward the zombies at high velocity.

BOOM!

The fireball detonated on impact, reducing the zombies to heaps of dark ash. The following wave pressed on without pause.

Upon contact with the black flames, they burst into blaze, enveloping the zombies entirely. The intense heat of the black fire transformed them into dark ash within mere seconds.

Having eliminated a vast swarm of zombies in under a minute, the other members refused to lag behind and began unleashing their own assaults in rapid succession.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Explosions resounded across the region as vibrant abilities erupted from the wall's heights.

As the team vied to outdo one another in zombie kills, the Mo siblings observed the chaos in stunned amazement.

"Second Brother, given their power, we have nothing to fear," Mo Lingzhen declared abruptly.

Mo Junzi looked her way and grinned. It was unusual for his cousin to commend outsiders so openly. Though she avoided naming the Phantom Team, her words essentially lauded their prowess.

Soon, Mo Junyang rose from his seat, easing his stiff limbs. He regarded his siblings, still engrossed in the fight, and announced, "I'm heading off for some rest."

Despite the lack of reply, he exited the room and went back to his quarters. This structure had served as a pre-apocalypse hotel equipped with solar generators.

Thus, even after nearly ten months into the apocalypse, power still flowed through the building. Supplies posed the challenge, but as Mo family offspring, acquiring them presented no difficulty.

Upon reaching his room, Mo Junyang showered and reclined on the bed. His mind wandered to his cousin who had fled home, her location still a mystery.

Shutting his eyes, he whispered, "Shenshen, no matter where you flee to the world's edge, I'll track you down for sure."

With zombie howls and blasts sounding from beyond, he slipped into slumber.

At the same time, in Lin’an City Base, the Matkuna soldiers' numbers showed no decline.

From her vantage on the wall, Jiao Lizhi surveyed the scene and furrowed her brow. "Gaia, analyze the battlefield and simulate to forecast the assault trajectories."

Ten seconds elapsed before a blue hologram materialized before her. Jiao Lizhi studied the projections, her frown deepening. Gaia alone revealed the oddities in the attack scheme.

"Why do these pests appear focused on assaulting this specific zone?" she murmured to herself.
