Jiao Lizhi stunned the Matkuna Army by wielding a giant slipper as a weapon, smashing bugs into pulps and creating a safe zone around her as she leaped into battle. With Du Beiye's encouragement, she pressed the attack while the defenders rallied, opening the gate and erecting a metal wall to funnel enemies through narrow gaps for controlled combat. Mutants unleashed a barrage of fireballs, spears, thunderbolts, and other abilities; Jiao Lizhi transformed her slipper into a bracelet and hurled an explosive water ball that shattered into piercing droplets, while Mo Junjie deployed a deadly black mist that melted over a hundred soldiers into goo, his serene smile unnerving his allies.

"Keep your voice down. If he overhears you, you could end up as a puddle of water in the next instant," warned another mutant right after catching the woman’s words.

In the past, both women had admired Mo Junjie. Yet, after seeing his real nature, they refused to cling to those dreamy ideas anymore.

Surviving was far more crucial than landing a handsome boyfriend!

While Du Beiye, Jiao Lizhi, and Mo Junjie were mostly maintaining the defensive front, Wen Hanli was placing a call from his office.

The phone rang several times before anyone answered.

"Vice Commander Wen, what made you call me?"

Recognizing Jin Xuyan’s voice, Wen Hanli replied, "Captain Jin, our base faces an assault. The bugs popped up unexpectedly close to our outer wall. Right now, we’re fighting them off. However, we don’t know their exact numbers."

Jin Xuyan’s brow furrowed upon hearing this, and he responded, "We’ve got our own issues here, so my team can’t return. If things worsen, seek out my fiancée. She likely has a way to handle it."

Though Wen Hanli had no clue what plan Jiao Lizhi might have, he believed in Jin Xuyan’s judgment. "Got it."

Once the line went dead, Jin Xuyan grabbed his satellite phone to message the team members. Next, he punched in another number. Moments later, the connection clicked through, bringing Xie Zhou’s voice.

"Captain Jin."

"Commander Xie, what’s the status at Green Lake Base?" inquired Jin Xuyan.

Xie Zhou paused briefly before countering, "Captain Jin, how did you learn about our troubles?"

"What’s going on?"

"Over the last month, illnesses among residents have spiked. Our probe revealed they’re undergoing mutation."

"I informed Commander Xun about it, and he forwarded research data my way. But comparing it showed differences in the mutation between our base and Lin’an City Base."

"Today, over 200 people abruptly lost control and attacked the guards. No deaths occurred, but the wounded display mutation symptoms."

Jin Xuyan’s frown deepened as he absorbed Xie Zhou’s report. Lin’an City Base battled Matkuna soldiers, while Green Lake Base dealt with threats from within.

It felt like unseen forces were steering them into uncertain territory.

"For now, contain them and monitor external threats. Lin’an City Base is fending off Matkuna soldiers. I believe the Green Lake Base issue ties to the Organization."

Xie Zhou froze at those words. After a brief hesitation, he affirmed, "With Commander Xun and Vice Commander Wen overseeing things, they’ll be fine. I’ll handle our crisis as best I can."

"Good. Contact me right away if anything changes."

"Will do."

Shortly after ending the call, Jin Xuyan’s phone buzzed once more. It was Qin Luzi this time. "Old Qin, what’s up?"

"Captain, zombies are swarming from every side. I figure the horde will reach the city in under two hours."

After a quick think, Jin Xuyan instructed, "Tell everyone to head to Sanchou Base immediately."

"Understood."

Defending the whole city proved impossible, so concentrating survivors in one spot made sense. Though risky, protecting a compact area beat guarding an sprawling urban expanse.

Qin Luzi disconnected and then soared toward Feng Yun’s position.

Spotting that Feng Yun had wiped out the nearby zombies, he touched down ahead of him and declared, "Feng Yun, deploy the military chopper. We have to alert folks about the approaching zombie horde."

Feng Yun swiftly retrieved the chopper and questioned, "Brother Qin, what about the rest of the team?"

No sooner had he spoken than his phone pinged with a message. Glancing at it, he noted it came from his captain.

"Zombie horde approaching. Spread word to evacuate to Sanchou Base. Rendezvous there in 90 minutes."

"Hop in," Qin Luzi urged while starting the engine.

Feng Yun hopped into the co-pilot spot and wondered, "Brother Qin, how will we notify the survivors?"

With the rotors whirring loudly, drowning out sounds, Qin Luzi adjusted the controls and stated, "Your job is to broadcast the captain’s command."

"Brother Qin, you..."

As Feng Yun began, his own words boomed across the vicinity. Qin Luzi had switched the comms, linking his microphone to the external speakers.

In under five seconds, Feng Yun steadied himself and relayed Jin Xuyan’s directive.

"Attention, all survivors! This is a Phantom Team operative. A zombie horde strikes the city in 90 minutes. Evacuate to Sanchou Base without delay."

"I repeat: A zombie horde strikes the city in 90 minutes. Evacuate to Sanchou Base without delay."

As he kept broadcasting the alert, Qin Luzi piloted the chopper through the city skies to ensure maximum reach.

Moments after the announcement reached survivors, astonishment rippled through them. Yet, being their initial encounter with the Phantom Team’s name, many remained skeptical.

Qin Luzi tracked the mental map and saw only a few survivors shifting, while most showed no signs of fleeing.

He pondered briefly and added, "This comes from Lin’an City Base’s Commander. Anyone seeking safety, head to Sanchou Base now."

At mention of Lin’an City Base, a larger wave of people began their evacuation.
