Upon hearing her sister's statement, Du Beiye quickly drew the bazooka from behind her back and targeted the space portal with it.

Wuuung~

A low hum emanated from the bazooka for several seconds until a broad blue beam, over one meter wide, burst forth and struck the space portal.

ZING! BOOM!

As soon as the beam collided with the portal, it detonated right away. The blast wiped out a huge cluster of Matkuna soldiers and hurled the ones close by through the air.

In just 2 seconds, a rift in the void formed and pulled in all nearby objects, then the explosion's rebound generated enormous energy surges that rapidly expanded outward, demolishing everything in their path.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

"UGH!"

Du Beiye and Jiao Lizhi both got struck by the energy surge as well.

The second the surge slammed into the mobile suit, a blue protective layer materialized at once, and a huge shield materialized in Du Beiye’s grasp.

These defenses absorbed the energy surges and lessened the force. Du Beiye got shoved backward, carving a deep and lengthy groove into the earth.

Though she managed to endure the force, Jiao Lizhi fared worse. Right when the surge impacted her, it launched her more than 50 meters away.

Luckily, being a level 6 mutant, she could channel her energy to steady herself while airborne. By the time the next surge reached her, she had formed a sturdy ice barrier to fend off the blow.

BOOM! CRACK!

Under the intense strain, the ice barrier shattered. Fierce gusts and a thick dust cloud obscured her sight. Clenching her jaw, she kept channeling her energy to maintain the ice barrier.

The surges persisted for an entire minute until they subsided at last. As she touched down, Jiao Lizhi realized that despite the deaths of so many bugs, their horde showed no signs of thinning.

From the looks of things, staying put would mean getting surrounded. Coming to that realization, Jiao Lizhi glanced at her sister and received a confirming nod.

Sharing an unspoken bond, the pair fell back toward the base, slaying bugs along the way.

Simultaneously, the blaring alarm rang throughout the base.

BRRRIINNNGGG!!

Guards and mutants hurried to the fourth wall, as civilians trailed the base personnel and headed to the underground shelter in good order.

Once the alarm triggered, Xun Che and the senior officers headed to the control tower to monitor the security feeds.

Security personnel had deployed multiple drones to scout beyond the base. Upon spotting a vast bug horde charging swiftly from afar, grim expressions settled on everyone's faces.

"Zoom in closer," Xun Che instructed.

An officer magnified the view, granting them a sharp image of the scene.

"Commander, those aren't zombie cockroaches," a senior officer remarked in astonishment.

"Correct. Those are the aliens."

As Xun Che uttered those words, the group remembered the bug captured by a Phantom Team member, sending shivers through them. The researchers had shared details after running numerous tests and analyses on the specimen.

Though they'd known of this extraterrestrial species for some time, they believed only a handful existed, posing no real danger to humanity. But they had misjudged badly.

Given the sheer volume of aliens approaching, holding the base would prove difficult. Based on their intel, these bugs boasted strong offensive and defensive capabilities. Taking down even one wouldn't be simple.

With the Phantom Team away on assignment, just a handful of A-rank mercenary groups could stand against them.

Once they grasped this, all eyes turned to Xun Che.

The Commander stayed far more composed than the others. After studying the feed briefly, he noted a robot and a woman holding back the bugs. Spotting the woman's features, he recognized the robot as part of Jin Xuyan’s squad too.

"Implement level 3 emergency protocol right away. Mutants and guards rotate shifts to protect the wall. Set up provisional medical stations and stockpile resources."

Pausing briefly, he continued, "Hold off on deploying weapons. They can't take out those bugs."

"Understood," the group responded together and dispersed to handle their duties.

Wen Hanli messaged Jin Xuyan prior to inspecting supplies. Xun Che, meanwhile, proceeded to the fourth wall to command the defense firsthand.

In the meantime, Mo Junjie had arrived at the fourth wall. Perched atop it, he observed the enormous robot far off. Despite his concern for Du Beiye’s well-being, he refrained from charging ahead impulsively and held his position.

Du Beiye and Jiao Lizhi had eliminated hordes of bugs on their way back, enraging the Matkuna Commander. It lifted its head and emitted shrill cries. Moments later, multiple Matkuna captains sped toward them through the air.

Gazing at the incoming foes, Jiao Lizhi thought of flying cockroaches, causing instant chills. Having spent years on Earth, her mind flashed to grabbing a slipper upon encountering one.

Maybe her desire to smack the bugs with a slipper surged too strongly, causing the black scythe in her grip to glow with intense blue radiance.

Just as Gaia's voice resounded in her thoughts, Jiao Lizhi watched her sleek scythe morph into a massive black slipper.

Without time to process, she noticed a Matkuna captain closing in fast. Acting on impulse, she unleashed a powerful swing with the enormous slipper.
