Jiang Yuyan woke up to find Lu Lijun in the hospital after an accident. While his family tried to comfort her, Yuyan saw her chance to confront the one responsible for all the harm, vowing to end it permanently.

Jiang Yuyan was guided into the opulent drawing room of the grand estate.

Jared lounged on a plush sofa, clad in relaxed home wear—a black tee with short sleeves and beige trousers. A wine glass, held elegantly in one hand, swirled as he savored his drink.

"Welcome, Ms. Jiang. Your arrival was anticipated, though perhaps not quite so soon," he commented, the wine glass continuing its graceful motion. "Shouldn't you be attending to Lu Lijun?"

"Once I handle the nuisance known as Jared Magnus, I shall return to his side," she stated, taking a seat on the sofa opposite him without an invitation. Her posture exuded confidence, despite being alone in hostile territory.

Jared let out a soft chuckle. "And what is your strategy for dealing with this 'nuisance' you've brought upon yourself?"

"Take a guess," she replied, settling in comfortably, her back supported by the sofa.

"What else can you possibly do, aside from desiring my immediate demise?" he inquired, taking a sip of wine. "Is that not your usual method of handling adversaries? While I wouldn't be shocked by such an attempt, do you truly believe I resemble those inconsequential individuals who perished unnoticed, leaving no repercussions for you?"

"Do you imagine I would concern myself with consequences if it meant eliminating a devil and safeguarding my family?" she retorted coolly.

"You might not, but what about Lijun? Wouldn't he be as good as finished if you were taken from him?" Jared countered. "That young man has truly matured into a devoted lover, and for a woman as undeserving as you. Even if you succeed in killing me, I will have ultimately triumphed, as you will never be with him again."

"If you comprehend the depth of his devotion, do you genuinely believe he would ever permit me to be separated from him?" Jiang Yuyan gave a dry laugh. "You underestimate him significantly. Even though he nearly forced you out of this nation? He will stop at nothing to keep me by his side, granting me the freedom to act as I please—be it ending your life right here, or dragging you to the site of the incident and crushing every bone in your body with a truck until you are nothing but dust."

"If he possesses such capabilities, then where is he?" Jared taunted. "Lying in a hospital bed, awaiting you to exact vengeance in his stead?"

"Perhaps he relishes the sight of his woman taking charge and embracing her darker side. That is simply his nature—he loves me in every facet of my being," she responded, drawing a pistol from behind her and idly toying with it. "So, where shall we begin?"

Jared remained entirely unfazed. "This is my domain, and my security personnel are positioned just outside."

"A pity they are outside. You should have stationed them within to restrain me, had you not been so assured of handling me single-handedly," she said with a smirk. "Summon them, and the bullet will find its mark precisely in the center of your head. My intention was to prolong your suffering, affording you the chance to keenly miss your family before your end."

"Do you truly believe I am intimidated by your hollow threats, or even by the prospect of death?" Jared stated calmly, finishing his wine and reaching for the bottle to refill his glass. "Proceed with the act. Kill me."

"You harbor no fear of death, and I certainly possess no apprehension about ending your life. However, I do ponder how your family will cope with never discovering your sudden and absolute disappearance," Jiang Yuyan remarked placidly. "This is China, our sovereign territory, not yours. I can act with impunity here, and no one will ever be the wiser. Have you perhaps forgotten this crucial detail?"

Jared regarded her, attempting to decipher her intent, though a grim premonition suggested he already understood.

"Following my termination of your life here, your remains will vanish—never to be located, leaving no trace of your fate. Your wife will continue her vigil, anticipating your return, or perhaps conclude you betrayed her and absconded. Your children will yearn for their father, questioning his abandonment. Years will elapse, and with your continued absence, will they discard all memories of you, resenting your departure? Meanwhile, your body will have long since decayed, consumed by the creatures of the abyss."

A subtle shift in Jared's demeanor, a fleeting shadow of concern crossing his features, only served to amplify the wicked grin on Yuyan's lips.

"I have been contemplating whether it would be more agonizing to let them forever ponder your reasons for leaving, or perhaps, after many years, to dispatch a letter in your name, conveying your profound dissatisfaction with them. Alternatively, I might pen that you departed to forge a new existence with another, establishing a new family. Hmm, which scenario do you deem the more cruel?"

"You... Ahhh..."

Jared winced, a sharp pain lancing through his arm as he clutched it. Crimson began to seep from a fresh cut, the sting of the bullet that had grazed him, fired from Yuyan's weapon, now equipped with a silencer. The acrid scent of gunpowder hung heavy in the air, Yuyan remaining remarkably composed as she held the firearm.

He hadn't believed she would actually shoot. Stunned, Jared stared at her, only for Yuyan's voice to break the silence. "Don't assume I missed. My marksmanship with firearms is so exceptional, I could probably clinch an Olympic gold medal. This minor nick is merely a token retribution for the injury Lijun sustained on his arm, an accident you engineered. Now, I ponder on the wound inflicted upon Lijun's forehead. Should my next shot just kiss your skin, or should it burrow through your very skull?"

Jared's gaze flickered towards the drawing room door, but Yuyan preempted his intentions. "If you dare call for backup, I'll put a bullet in you before they even cross the threshold."

A beat of silence passed before Jared spoke, his voice low. "After you end me, ensure my family is informed. They have no part in our grievances."

"Is that so? You don't seem to extend that courtesy to my kin," she retorted with a chilling chuckle. "You could have targeted me solely, but your error was involving my family. The past is the past, yet in the present, you should have kept your distance from my man. Lijun was utterly uninvolved in the conflict between us. He was already burdened by the tragic accident and demise of his own brother, and now you have actively sought to harm him as well."

"Had I intended his demise, he wouldn't have survived that incident with mere superficial injuries," Jared countered swiftly. "My objective was solely to instill fear and compel you to meet me."

"Indeed, your goal was achieved. I am here, but my sole purpose is to see you dead," she declared, her tone laced with mockery. "If I allow any member of the Magnus family to depart now, you will undoubtedly return, a risk I cannot afford to take."

Jared remained seated, fully aware of her unwavering resolve. He had heard tales of her past—how ruthlessly she dealt with those who dared to harm her loved ones. He considered himself somewhat fortunate that, for the moment, a mere graze was all he had endured.

"Proceed," Jared stated with a surprising calmness. "Just ensure my remains are returned to my family."

"Keep dreaming about that," Jiang Yuyan responded, idly manipulating her firearm. "I distinctly recall how we were denied even a final glimpse of Qiang."

"That was my father's decision, though I never personally took a life. You may end me, but I implore you, do not subject my family to untold suffering," Jared reiterated, his voice now subdued.

"I shall give it consideration, should you meet your end with quiet dignity," she replied, her voice like ice. "Now, hold still as if you were a target in a shooting gallery," she commanded, leveling the gun at him. "If this bullet merely creates a small scratch upon your skull, I might just consider a career in the Olympics and grant you your life. However, should it puncture your brain, I shall simply claim to be a poor shot and deal with the consequences of your deceased form."

Jared closed his eyes, the stark reality of his predicament sinking in. There was no escape. His overconfidence, his underestimation of her capabilities, had led him to this point. He deeply regretted not disallowing his men from waiting outside, foolishly assuming she would arrive unprepared.
