1621 Broken Yuyan

Amidst a crucial meeting, Lu Lijun was notified of an urgent call from home. He promptly halted the proceedings to take the call, only to learn that Jared Magnus had arrived at the Lu Mansion. Without a moment's delay, he exited the meeting and rushed out, demanding, "Get my car ready."

"Lijun, what's wrong?" Noah inquired, hurrying after him, with Xiao Min also looking deeply concerned by Lu Lijun's evident panic. "That scoundrel Jared Magnus showed up at my house," Lu Lijun responded hastily, prompting Noah and Xiao Min to grow more worried and quicken their pace to keep up.

His car was already waiting by the office building's entrance. As the driver opened the rear passenger door, Lu Lijun instead opened the driver's side door and took the wheel himself. Noah and Xiao Min scrambled into the car as Lu Lijun sped off. His knuckles were white on the steering wheel. Noah, seated beside him, recognized his friend's palpable unease but felt compelled to offer a calming presence. "Lijun, drive carefully. We'll be there soon."

Lu Lijun acknowledged Noah's words but continued to accelerate, his mind solely focused on preventing that despicable man from uttering a single word to Yuyan that he shouldn't. He was terrified of the possibility of seeing her shattered once more if such a thing occurred.

"Where is Yuyan?" his voice boomed through the drawing-room, her absence immediately noticeable. "She's in her room," Elder Lu replied, appearing himself to be deeply affected, his eyes glistening. "Go to her. She isn't well. That man said something truly hurtful to her."

Lu Lijun was already bounding upstairs, his swift steps carrying him to the second floor where he found his mother standing outside Jiang Yuyan's room, her own eyes visibly teary.

"Mother?"

"She won't open the door. I've called her so many times," she informed him, dabbing her eyes. Lu Lijun knew Yuyan wouldn't open the door for anyone, not even him. He proceeded to his own room and entered Yuyan's through the hidden passage that connected their rooms. He found her sitting on the floor by the bed, her knees pulled up to her chest, arms wrapped around them. Her face was buried in her knees, and her anguished sobs filled the room.

Lu Lijun rushed to her side, sat on the floor before her, and pulled her into a comforting embrace. "Yuyan," he murmured, his own voice thick with emotion. All he received in return were her unrestrained sobs. "Look at me. Let's talk, okay?"

Jiang Yuyan merely shook her head, refusing to meet his gaze, as if she had committed a terrible transgression.

Lu Lijun allowed her to weep for a time, until her crying subsided somewhat and she grew weary. He continued to hold her, his own eyes welling up. He dreaded what she might do next. He vowed to make that man pay, truly pay, for inflicting such pain on her again.

After a while, he spoke again, sensing her sobs had lessened and exhaustion had set in. "Don't listen to what he said, alright? He tried the same thing with me, but do you remember what you told me? You said it wasn't my fault. They were the wicked ones."

Yuyan shook her head, weeping, "I killed him... he died because of me... Qiang... he paid for what I did... It's my fault..."

"No, it wasn't," he insisted, cupping her face in his hands and gently turning her to face him. He looked directly into her red, swollen, tear-filled eyes. "It was never your fault. Brother would have said the same, and all of us."

"I shouldn't have gone seeking revenge. I should have let it go," she cried, her voice breaking. "It took Qiang away from me. It all started with me."

"Yuyan..."

"I shouldn't have fought with that boy. I shouldn't have gone to that room alone. I shouldn't have sought revenge when everything had calmed down. I should have done nothing at all..."

Lu Lijun's heart ached watching her in such distress. He understood her pain intimately, having recently gone through a similar ordeal and blaming himself endlessly. He knew mere words wouldn't suffice. All she needed was time to process her grief. Lu Lijun carefully lifted her into his arms and carried her to the bed, gently placing her down and arranging the pillows for her comfort. He sat beside her, wiping her eyes, but the tears continued to flow, and she still refused to open them to look at him. He took her hands in his and said, "Don't shut me out. No one but I can truly understand what you are going through right now. We are the same in this. If you blame yourself, I will blame myself too, and then everything will be lost. Do you want that?"

She finally opened her eyes and looked at him. She might be damned for the sin she had committed, but Lu Lijun, he was innocent. "It's not the same," she whispered, her voice faint. "I was the one who started it. If I hadn't hurt that boy..."

"They were the ones who initiated this. Had they not harmed you first, this wouldn't have occurred," he responded. "If you hadn't disciplined that young man, my elder brother, Qinag, would have punished him and the others. Trust me, that individual was fortunate not to fall into my brother's grasp, as he would have faced an even more brutal demise. In the end, things would have concluded similarly." Lu Lijun elaborated, "If any of them had survived, I would have eliminated them as well, so this is not on you."

"If anything had befallen you, my brother would not be alive either," Lu Lijun added. "At the very least, he passed away with the assurance that he could protect you. Had he failed, I can only imagine the state he would have been reduced to. Because I can envision myself in his position, and I know what would have transpired with me. He and I are identical when it concerns you. He cherished you above all else, and where he ceased, I shall continue that devotion."

She comprehended Lu Lijun's meaning, yet the weight of responsibility for the death of the man she loved was more profound than any words of comfort could alleviate her guilt. "It will take you time to come to terms with it, just as it did for me, but you will be alright. You have me, understand?" he inquired. "I will fetch you some water."

Jiang Yuyan closed her eyes, tears continuing to fall as she blamed herself. Lu Lijun poured water into a glass while retrieving medicine from a drawer and adding it to the liquid. He needed to make her sleep first, or she would persist in her weeping. He had spoken with An Tian on their journey home and followed his advice. He recalled that she must have done the same for him during his suffering, leading him into a prolonged sleep from which he awoke calm and receptive to what she and Lu Feng had attempted to convey. Jiang Yuyan drank the water. "You should rest," he said, assisting her to lie down in bed and slumbering beside her, holding her close. "I apologize, Lijun," she murmured, her voice hoarse. "For taking your brother from you."

"You did not. Those responsible have already paid the price," he assured her in a gentle tone. "Close your eyes."

Soon, Jiang Yuyan succumbed to sleep. Confident that she would not awaken for several hours, Lu Lijun covered her and departed the room, heading downstairs where the entire family was gathered, their faces etched with worry. Lu Jinhai and Lu Han were also present. "How is she?" Lu Jinhai inquired. "Not well at all, but I managed to get her to sleep," Lu Lijun replied, then looked at his mother. "I need to go out for a while. Please look after her."

"Where are you going?" Niag Jiahui asked, her heart pounding with apprehension that her son might act impulsively. She had already endured the loss of one son and feared losing another.

"Just attending to some matters. Brother Yang will be here too. She will feel better," Lu Lijun responded dismissively and turned to leave the residence. "Lijun," Ning Jiahui called out, only to hear him reply, "Do not concern yourself with me, Mother," before he walked away.

She then turned to her husband, "Why don't you stop him?"

"He will not listen. Let him be."

Outside the house, Noah and Xiao Min followed him. "Where are you headed, Lu Lijun?" Noah asked, his voice laced with concern, a sense of unease settling upon him. "I'm going to pay that scoundrel a visit," he replied, moving towards his car. "You two should return to the office and resume your work. We have important meetings scheduled for tomorrow."

"I'm accompanying you," Noah insisted, following closely. "No one is coming with me," his voice, cold as ice, reached the other two. "Just do as I instructed," and he entered his car, driving away swiftly. "He worries me," Noah murmured. "I will inform San Zemin to follow him. Rest assured," Xiao Min said, making a phone call. ----

Inside his car, Lu Lijun also made a call. The moment it was answered, he spoke, "Proceed with our plan. That bastard requires a severe lesson in reality."

"Yes, sir." Lu Lijun ended the call and continued driving, his expression one of utter determination to spare no one.

Meanwhile, at Jared's residence, he received the call. The man chuckled. "Departed home? Just as I anticipated from him? It is time to remind them all of the past, a little shock to unsettle that woman once more. Do exactly as I instructed."

"Yes, sir. Our operatives are positioned at the locations you specified."

"Excellent," Jared declared, terminating the call. A sinister smirk played on his lips. "This is going to be quite entertaining. Now, I shall see how that woman fails to regret her actions against my brother. She will even come to regret her very existence."
