Young Brother-in-law Is Now My Husband Chapter 1620: Jared's Visit

The following day saw Lu Lijun occupied with his office duties and meetings. However, an unexpected visitor arrived at the Lu Mansion. The security personnel had notified the household about the guest's presence and sought permission for entry.
"Who could it be, Yuyan?" Elder Lu inquired, a puzzled look on his face. "I feel as though I've heard his name before. Is it perhaps the businessman Lu Lijun has recently been engaging with?"
"Yes, Grandpa," Jiang Yuyan confirmed, intrigued by the reason for his visit. She had the security guard grant him access. She had long intended to meet this individual, but Lu Feng had prevented it; perhaps this was finally her opportunity.
Ning Jiahui expressed her concern, "Is it wise to allow him inside when all the men are away?"
"It's perfectly fine, Mother. He's not so reckless as to cause harm to our family within our own home," Jiang Yuyan reassured her. "Let's see what he wants."
The car had reached the mansion's entrance, and the guest was escorted into the drawing-room.
A tall foreigner, impeccably dressed in an expensive suit, entered the drawing-room, followed by his assistant, with a servant leading the way.
Ning Jiahui instructed the butler to inform Lu Lijun's office of the guest's arrival and then proceeded to attend to him.
"Good morning, Mr. Lu," the man greeted Elder Lu. "I am Jared Magnus." He then turned to Jiang Yuyan. "I am certain Ms. Jiang recognized me immediately."
Jiang Yuyan felt a twinge of displeasure at his appearance but maintained her composure as a hostess, despite him being an adversary. She nodded, "Please, have a seat, Mr. Magnus."
Jared took a seat on the sofa, his assistant standing discreetly to the side. Jiang Yuyan sat opposite him, beside Elder Lu.
"This mansion is truly beautiful," Jared remarked, surveying the surroundings.
"Thank you, Mr. Magnus. However, I suspect you didn't come solely to admire our home."
He offered a bright smile. "Indeed not. I was merely curious about the Lu family and wished to extend my regards to you all."
"In that case, you could have informed us in advance when everyone was present. We could have even prepared breakfast for you," Jiang Yuyan replied.
"Thank you, but I have already had my breakfast. Perhaps next time, I shall invite myself to a meal," he responded.
"As you wish," Jiang Yuyan calmly agreed. "Since you wished to meet the entire family, perhaps I should summon Lu Lijun and the others home."
"Ah, there is no need for that. I have encountered Chairman Lu and President Lu numerous times during business functions. It is unnecessary to trouble them for this casual visit of mine," he stated, turning back to Elder Lu. "I am, however, pleased to meet the other family members whom I haven't had the chance to encounter before."
Elder Lu simply grunted, a sense of unease settling upon him regarding the visitor's presence.
Following Ning Jiahui's directives, the servants brought tea and snacks for the guests.
"Oh, I must say I am quite taken with the tea here. You offer such a delightful selection; I even sent some to my wife. She was overjoyed and insisted I bring more," Jared commented as he savored the tea.
"That is indeed true," Jiang Yuyan replied, inwardly questioning the man's true motives.
Jared engaged in conversation on various subjects he found interesting, while the others offered polite hums and brief replies.
As their extended conversation drew to a close, Jared announced, "I will be returning to my country shortly. My time in China, dealing with such intelligent individuals, has been most rewarding. Lu Lijun, of course, stands out as the most brilliant. I truly admire him."
"I trust your experiences here will prove beneficial in the long run, Mr. Magnus," Jiang Yuyan responded, hoping he would depart soon.
"Yes, undoubtedly. I had intended to stay a while longer, but my younger brother's death anniversary is approaching, necessitating my return," he added.
"I am sorry to hear that," Jiang Yuyan replied. "May his soul find peace."
"Alas, there is little one can do when a family member is lost. We can only grieve, much like you must still be grieving your husband's demise, Ms. Jiang."
His words caused a shift in her demeanor. "Rather than grieve, I prefer to make those murderers pay with their lives."
A smirk played on his lips. "That was precisely my father's intention as well – to make his son's killer pay by extinguishing their happiness, just as they had stolen my father's." He countered, his calm gaze fixed upon her. "However, my father ultimately lost his own life in the process. Like you, we never truly achieved vengeance against the murderer."
The atmosphere grew heavy. "What are you implying, Mr. Magnus? Your brother..."
"The young man who had just begun university, content with his new life. But one day, a fierce girl, driven by past grievances, enacted her revenge, leading to his death."
This struck a chord within her. "Your brother..."
"My own half-brother, whom my father never knew existed. By the time his mother revealed his existence to my father, my brother was already in his coffin," Jared elaborated. "He had lost all will to live after experiencing the cruelty of that girl, and he chose to end his own life. How utterly miserable he must have been to take such a drastic step. It's truly heartless, wouldn't you agree?" Jared raised an eyebrow, his gaze fixed on her. "You must know that girl quite well, Ms. Jiang. Punishing someone who wronged you must have been a thrilling experience for you, wasn't it?"
Her entire body turned cold and unresponsive. "That…"
"Enough!" Elder Lu interjected sharply. "Mr. Magnus, I believe it is time for you to depart."
The man maintained his composure, relishing the shock and bewilderment he had induced. "Of course, I am leaving, Mr. Lu. I merely wished to offer my apologies to Ms. Jiang before my departure." He then turned his attention back to her. "I wanted to apologize. Because of what happened to my brother, or more precisely, what you did to my brother, your husband had to pay the ultimate price with his own life."
Jiang Yuyan felt as though her soul had detached from her body. Speechless, she stared at the man. Tears welled up in her eyes, her mind a chaotic storm of thoughts and conflicting emotions, her breathing
growing shallow.
"Yuyan, just ignore him," Elder Lu advised, rising to his feet. "Mr. Magnus, I must insist that you leave. Otherwise, do not hold me responsible for any discourtesy."
Jared also stood up. "Thank you for your valuable time, Mr. Lu. It was a pleasure meeting you." He cast a final glance at the stunned Yuyan, savoring her anguish. "The past may repeat itself once more, Ms. Jiang. Be cautious." With that, he turned and exited.
"Yuyan," Elder Lu called out, but she offered no response, seemingly deaf to his words.
Ning Jiahui, equally taken aback by Jared's pronouncements, stood frozen, struggling to process the new revelation.
"Jiahui?" Elder Lu inquired.
Her eyes glistening with unshed tears, she looked towards them. He continued, "Summon Lu Lijun home immediately."
"The fourth young master is already en route home," the butler announced.
