As the station faces the threat of a Leviathan, most mercenary teams and security personnel depart, deeming the situation too dangerous or lacking a viable plan. Despite the Chief of Security's doubts, Captain Tera of the Teran Mercenary Company volunteers her team to confront the colossal creature alone, confident in their Exo-Knights and Psionic abilities.

I actually asked Nerissa if she wanted to stay on the station or follow us to fight the Leviathan.

I was prepared to ask Valiea to let her hole up at her place while we were out there but surprisingly... Nerissa chose to stay with us instead.

Apparently, according to her, my ship was actually the safest place to be around anyway and if we were to fail to subdue the Leviathan, the station would also be screwed and by extension, she would also be screwed.

Well... Seeing that she knows that I was a Psionic... Her beliefs weren’t unfounded so I might as well just bring her along.

We set off from the station and I noted that there were a number of ships flying in the opposite direction of where I was headed.

No doubt they were either Mercs or denizens of the station who have somehow found out about the Leviathan and have decided to leave the place.

It looked kind of comical as our ship was the only one that was headed in one direction while you could see an entire fleet of ships headed in the complete opposite direction.

As I got further away from the station to prepare to start my ship’s Travel Drives, I realised there were a couple of patrol ships arranged in a line along my path.

Looking over, I found them crewed with members of the station’s security team, all of them seemingly saluting us as we flew by.

Hmm... I’m kind of flattered but I also know that they kind of think that we were basically not going to return and they were honouring our ’sacrifice’ right now.

Oh well... I’m not going to correct them anyway so I stood on the bridge and saluted them back before giving the order to engage our Travel Drives.

The stars turned into streaks of light as we boosted towards the direction of the Leviathan.

I did a quick check on the system map to make sure we were heading in the right direction.

We were given access to the system’s scanning beacons that were also being used to track the Leviathan right now so we could have an estimate on its current position instead of just flying there blind.

The flight there would only take us a few hours at most and I could see our position on the star map rapidly approach a slow moving red dot that was making its way in the direction of the station.

I stood up from my Captain’s chair and tapped on the comms button to activate the ship wide comms channel.

"All hands to the bridge."

Most of the girls were already here anyway but this announcement was more to get Ries, Vier and Nerissa to the bridge.

It only took a moment before everyone was assembled around the display table behind the Captain’s chair when I realised we had one additional member in the room.

"Freyja? Oh you cute girl" I cooed, giving my dog a pat on the head while my girls slowly backed away from her. "I didn’t mean you as well. You can go back and rest."

She let out a soft whine at my words.

"Ah, you want to stay here too?"

"Woof!"

"Alright, alright. But the girls are a little scared so can you just stay near the chair over there?" I asked, pointing at the Captain’s chair.

She let out a happy woof before moving over to where I pointed, settling herself down beside the large chair.

She even went out of her way to lay down in a position where the girls wouldn’t be able to see her so that they wouldn’t feel intimidated by her. Such a good girl~

I joined my girls and looked at the projection of the system map with a critical eye.

"Estimated time before we come within sight of the Leviathan?" I asked.

"Two hours, Tera," Amber answered me, this time without any humour involved.

Even for her, this was also serious because even if the three of us Psionics might be safe from the Leviathan, that doesn’t mean the rest of the girls were safe either.

In a battle like this, anything can happen.

That’s why we needed to plan for this.

"For this... I’m thinking that only Amber and I will be facing the Leviathan directly. The rest of you will remain behind and provide fire support. Mara, you stay with them and protect the back line from anything the Leviathan might throw at us. Renata, I’m leaving it to you to take care of the ships and also provide us with long range fire support."

All of them voiced out affirmatives before we settled into discussing positioning and contingency plans, including in the case of a team wipe, what should Nerissa do to escape the fight.

Although... I honestly don’t think we would have a problem because even in the worst case scenario... There’s still Renata.

Two hours passed by really quickly and Renata called out suddenly, "Daddy~ It’s here."

I turned around to look through the windscreen of the bridge.

At first, I didn’t see anything since all I saw was inky blackness and a bunch of stars blinking in space.

That was when the scanners highlighted the area ahead of us in a neon green pattern and a shape appeared in front of the darkness of space, showing a giant asteroid floating in front of us in the distance.

The scanners then zoomed in, displaying the same Leviathan we saw in the image captured back at the station.

It certainly looked like an asteroid with tentacles...

"This is it then... Renata, get us close enough for the ship’s effective range on all main guns before you bring us out of Travel Speeds. Everyone else, to your stations."

All of us moved out as one, with most of my girls accompanying me to the docking hatch that connected to the Drow of Dawn where our Exo-Knights were stationed.

I flew over to where my Exo-Knight was docked and stepped up to the cockpit hatch to watch it swing open with a soft pneumatic hiss.

I stepped inside before taking my place on the chair, watching as the machine came to life and the cockpit doors swung closed.

Sucking in a breath, I relaxed myself before activating the controls, feeling my consciousness float out of my body to link with the Exo-Knight’s.

When I opened my ’eyes’, I found myself looking through the Exo-Knight and I took a step out, taking a moment to get used to the sensation of controlling a giant mech once again.

I did the usual checks to make sure everything was functional, though I was sure Ries already did all that beforehand so there shouldn’t be a problem.

Seeing all my status were green, I looked back at my girls to see them also detaching their Exo-Knights from their docking stations, each of them also doing their final checks before moving over to me and joining me at the hangar doors.

"Daddy! Dropping out of Travel Speeds in three... Two... One!"

I felt the low hum of the Travel Drives quiet down before the normal engines were engaged.

The hangar doors also opened up, the atmospheric shield shimmering and preventing the air inside the hangar to vent out.

Leading the group, I jumped out of the hangar bay and engaged my thrusters, turning myself towards the large red dot on the map that was at the bottom of my vision.

It was not hard to miss the Leviathan this time, given how massive in size it was.

The light from this system’s star illuminated its entire length as I looked up at the huge creature that looked like a massive, space station sized rock with tentacles jutting out from its crevices.

It even looked like the tentacles were the things that were propelling this giant rock through space.

I didn’t really understand how big this thing really was until I’m standing in front of it and this thing was absolutely massive...

Now I’m having some doubts whether we could actually beat this thing...

I didn’t get to think too much as Amber let out a laugh through our comms, "Alright!! Wahahaha!! I am so looking forward to going all out on this thing!! You ready Tera?!"

The other girls also let out battle cries and I felt my own worries melt away.

Heh... Thanks, Amber.

"Alright girls! Stick to the plan! Amber, with me! Let’s go take down a Leviathan!"

Right as I said that, I felt a tremor going through my ’body’, which was really just the Exo-Knight’s frame, something that should already be really weird considering that we were in space.

Then I spotted a whole mass of dark blobs flying out from the Leviathan to form a massive black cloud, each of them with their own tentacles.

Right... This thing can also send out those small blobs too...

Let’s get to work...
