The protagonist navigated a dangerous city, witnessing extreme violence and casual disregard for life on public transport. They were targeted by thugs multiple times but deterred them with their visible weapon. Seeking a secluded spot to meet friends, the protagonist entered an alley only to be ambushed by the same thugs, who used an EMP device to disable nearby mercenaries before the protagonist prepared to fight.

I didn’t waste time and pulled the trigger, watching as the guy got his abdomen shredded open with a shotgun blast and his body flung back to crash against one of the other thugs that was unfortunate enough to be standing behind him.

The thugs froze, probably not expecting their leader to just die like that.

But seriously, I literally showed you guys my weapons, did you think I wasn’t going to use them?

Or... Did they think I’m the pacifist who would hesitate to pull the trigger and try to talk my way out of things to avoid killing someone?

Welp, too late, bozos.

I raised my pistol and fired off a round, striking another thug in the head and blasting a hole through his skull.

The rest of the thugs let out a roar and charged towards me, not even caring about their well being at all.

Well... I was already prepared to fight all of them to begin with so this doesn’t really change anything anyway.

I fired three quick shots from my pistol, nailing a thug in his head and the next one twice in another one’s chest.

I then lifted my shotgun and blasted one in his abdomen before one of the thugs managed to rush at me to take a swing with his metal pole at my head.

The bat swung above my head as I ducked, pulling back my hand to fire my pistol from the hip and watching three bullet holes appear in the guy’s chest.

Shoving him off, I used him as an improvised obstacle to stall the advance of the next few thugs, buying me time to slot in a few shotgun shells into my shotgun before lifting it up and shooting twice.

The first was a buckshot that shredded the next thug’s face into pieces while the next shell was a slug round that pierced through a thug’s neck to bury itself into the chest of another thug, killing both of them in a single shot.

Despite all of that, the remaining thugs still roared out in rage and tried to fight me.

I suppressed an eyeroll and jumped towards them instead of maintaining my distance.

They clearly did not expect me to get closer so they were slow to respond when I got past the lead thug’s guard to jam the barrel of my pistol underneath his chin.

His eyes widened for a fraction of a second before I pulled the trigger, blowing his brains out before slamming my shoulder against his corpse to launch his body flying back to the thugs.

I spun and fired my shotgun from the hip, blasting one of the female thugs in the chest and watching her slam against the side of the wall, the blast opening up the chest like a blood soaked flower in bloom.

I continued my spin and fired my pistol three more times, hitting three thugs in the abdomen each and sending them tumbling to the ground and groaning in pain.

One of the thugs swung his bat at me and I intercepted it by swinging my shotgun up, catching the bat with the butt end of my gun’s stock.

I fired three rounds into the thug, two aimed at his chest and one at his head.

I leapt back to avoid the swing of another thug and pressed on the magazine release on my pistol and flicked my wrist to eject the nearly empty magazine from the gun.

One of the thugs attempted to rush me but a quick blast from my shotgun stopped him dead in his tracks.

I then used my thumb to flick against one of my spare pistol magazines strapped to my waist to launch it in the air, subtly using my telekinesis to manipulate its flight path to catch it with my pistol’s magazine well and slam it into the gun, hearing the satisfying click as it locked itself in place.

Without hesitation, I spun again to shoot my pistol, blasting two rounds into the chest of another thug and using the bottom of the handle to parry a swing from his comrade.

He gasped when I pushed the barrel of the shotgun up against his chest before blasting his chest open, the force sending him stumbling back a few steps before he fell backwards with a loud thud.

One more took his place and swung a metal rod at my head, his weapon swinging past my face as I leaned back to avoid it.

I had to take another step back as another thug tried to flank me from the side and she swung a heavy chain at me, the chain whistling past my ear as it slipped through the spaces in between my hair.

A third tried to thrust some kind of makeshift spear at me, which looked like some jagged piece of metal strapped to a broken pole.

I tilted my head to the side to avoid it and fired a pistol shot to his sternum, the guy’s chest caving in from the impact while dropping his weapon.

Before the spear could hit the ground, I kicked at the centre of the pole and launched it flying towards the thug with the chain, the pole smacking her across the face and sending her stumbling back.

The thug with the metal rod tried to close the distance again but I was ready for him.

My shotgun barrel was pointed in his direction and I squeezed the trigger, watching in satisfaction as the buckshot pellets blew open his chest and sent him skidding back a few feet.

The thug with the chain only just managed to shake off the impact of the pole before looking up to see me holding my pistol to point at her, nailing her between the eyes.

Two of the thugs that I had shot in the abdomen with my pistol got up on unsteady feet, their eyes glaring at me before their arms opened up to let blades slide out from their lower arm.

Oh? They’re able to use their cyware mods despite the EMP blast just now? I’m guessing the blast was targeted to only affect people in a specific direction so they were unaffected.

They rushed towards me, one of them leaping at me from above while the other trying to charge at me from below.

The only problem with that plan was... I have two guns.

I pointed both guns at a target each and fired my shotgun once while I squeezed the trigger on my pistol thrice.

Both thugs fell heavily onto the ground before they even reached me, their bodies twitching once before going still.

There were four remaining thugs who had not attacked me but had also not ran off yet. These were either the smartest of the bunch or the most cowardly of them.

I made a show of slotting two more shotgun shells into my shotgun while facing them before letting my guns rest by my side, both of their barrels pointed at the ground.

One of them was smart enough to turn around and start running, leaving his comrades behind and choosing to live instead.

The other three...

Two of them decided that the fact my guns were lowered meant they had a chance so they rushed towards me, the broken metal pieces in their hands raised threateningly as they charged.

I chose not to shoot them right away as I waited for them to get close before dodging their overhead swings by stepping to the side.

One of the thugs was too eager as she immediately tried to take another swing at me before her comrade could get out of the way and ended up smacking her under her chin.

The woman fell onto the ground while screaming out in pain at her dislocated jaw, the other female thug looking down at her friend she just smacked in open-mouth shock.

I did not wait for them to recover, since I’ve already given them a chance to leave.

I pointed my shotgun first at the woman who was still standing to blast open her chest, then shifted my aim down to the woman with the dislocated jaw to blast her head open.

I then turned to look at the last remaining female thug who was still standing there, clutching her wooden bat like it was her lifeline.

I tilted my head at her while cocking an eyebrow, as if asking her silently if she wanted to get shot as well.

She seemed to understand the mercy I was giving her as she quickly dropped her weapon and ran off as well.

If those two go off to find more thugs to come after me... That just means more loot for me, honestly.

The alley that was filled with the sounds of gunshots suddenly became silent and I went over to retrieve the magazine that I dropped earlier and reloaded my pistol and shotgun to make sure they had full ammo stored.

By now, the other Mercs that had been disabled by the EMP blast earlier had recovered, most of them groaning in pain as their cyware mods rebooted themselves.

I went ahead to grab the leader of the thugs and one of the guys with the sword arms to start dragging them out of the alley.

"The rest is yours," I told the Mercs, letting them take some of the spoils to keep them quiet.

They don’t move to loot their bodies yet, opting to wait for me to leave first.

That worked for me since the moment I walked out of sight, I let Renata consume them as two tentacles snaked out from my arms to wrap around them, allowing her to pull them in and absorb them into her body.

This city really is quite unsafe, huh?

I hope the station’s security forces don’t come and stop to interrogate me again...

At least I can claim self defence for this.
