What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company? Chapter 978: They Still Came After Me
Previously on What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?...
Seriously... Do these kinds of things also happen in other stations with bad public safety?
I guess this was also happening back in Cietai too but I wasn’t really looking out for it... So maybe it was also happening all around but I just never noticed it.
When the train reached the next station, a couple of people just came in to clean up the bodies and blood with the precision of people who have done this a thousand times.
It took me a moment to remember they were probably people from the Cleaner Corp and they most likely really did this a thousand or more times to the point they were already numb to it.
The train service wasn’t even stopped the entire time and just continued to run, like having a few dead bodies on the train was akin to someone spilling a drink on board that could just be cleaned up easily.
Seeing that the other commuters basically just went back to normal after seeing the last guy die, I think this was also something that was commonplace around here and not even something to make a fuss about.
I reached my stop and stepped outside, putting the memory of the shooting behind me as I checked the map again for my destination.
My action seemed to have caught the sight of a group of three thugs wearing synth leather jackets with piercings on their faces, one of them being a female who looked like a stereotypical rocker girl with her mohawk and eyeliner.
They most likely tagged me as a tourist since it was clear I wasn’t familiar with the area, marking me as a potential target for them to rob.
I narrowed my eyes at them before moving my hand to my hip, directing their attention to the pistol that was strapped there.
Their eyes dropped to the weapon at my waist and they made a show of clucking their tongue at me before turning away, losing interest in me.
The sight of my weapon pretty much made me a dangerous target and unless they were willing to risk dying for a couple of Credits, I was definitely not a good mark.
I see this station is really poor in public safety... I wonder why Valiea and Ragbar even chose to come here to set up their bar to begin with... Is it really just to run away from Desmond?
I think there could be other places they could go instead if they really wanted to be safe from him... But I guess since they were trying to set up a bar, they also needed to have patrons who would pay to drink and party.
Then again... I suppose it’s none of my business anyway and they can live wherever they want.
I left the station, ignoring those three thugs who had gone back to ignoring me and were just talking and laughing amongst themselves, acting like they didn’t just try to mark me as someone to rob.
Walking past the crowd, I found the place to be located a few streets from the station at a rather tall tower in the distance.
Looking up at it, I see a rather opulent penthouse at the top and something tells me that’s where their house was.
Following the map, I moved through the streets, ignoring the other people milling around the place including some Mercs who had settled in for the night to sleep out on the streets, curling themselves up with nothing but their jackets wrapped around them while leaning against the side of a building.
I didn’t notice this before but... I can hear the sounds of distant gunshots echoing elsewhere in the city, a sound I realised I had come to associate as just normal background noise after living in this universe for the past few months.
I had to move through an alleyway where several Mercs had chosen to spend the night and found myself witnessing another fight in the alley between a bunch of five guys.
They were really going ham on each other as they pummeled their opponent with their fist and kicked at them with their legs.
It was quite chaotic as they rolled around the alley and I wasn’t even sure if this was a free for all fight or it was a fight between two teams or something.
I’m also not sure what they were fighting for but I decided I wasn’t going to involve myself in that.
Stepping past them, I moved around the fight and walked past them, ignoring the grunts and groans coming from them and acting like this was just a part of the scenery for me.
There was another Merc who was sitting at the other end of the alley watching the fight while smoking a cigarette, acting like the fight was some kind of show he was watching.
He looked up at me as I walked near him, "Crazy city huh?"
I raised an eyebrow at him, "You act like this isn’t happening in other places."
He chuckled, "True. ’Cept I usually don’t have to sleep on the streets like this so I don’t really see it. Nice gear you have by the way."
I nodded at him, "Thanks. You have a good eye."
I was going to just leave before he nodded in the direction of where I had just come from, "You sure you want to leave your friends behind?"
I paused and turned to him, wondering what he was talking about.
He raised an eyebrow at me, prompting me to turn back to see there was a group of thugs walking up towards me, all of them armed with improvised melee weapons and the three people I saw at the station were amongst them.
Seriously? They didn’t give up from that and were just calling for backup? You guys do see the shotgun on my back, right? Are you guys really that willing to risk dying for just a few Credits?
Though... I guess to be fair... I have quite a lot of Credits on me right now and I’m pretty sure they will say I was worth the risk if they knew just how much money I had on me...
Well then... Guess I might as well deal with this group.
I gave a nod to the Merc before heading out of the alley, continuing my route to the apartment building.
Renata’s voice came from beside my ear, "Ehehe~ It seems like people can’t resist you, Daddy~"
"I’m pretty sure what they can’t resist is doing crime and looking for an easy mark, Renata..."
"Mmm~ Can I eat them later, Daddy?"
Hmm... I guess it’s better than just leaving their dead bodies around...
I moved to another alley, trying to find a place where I could deal with them without other people seeing me.
There was another alley right behind the building that I was supposed to meet the girls at so I went in there, finding out that it was a dead end which worked just fine for me.
The only problem was that this place also had a few Mercs that were hanging around and claimed that spot as their own.
They gave me a look when they saw me walk in but said nothing, opting to just see what I was doing instead.
Their composure quickly changed when they saw me pull out my shotgun and pistol, equipping both of them in my hands.
Since these guys were Mercs, they were armed as well so they also pulled out their own weapons while scrambling to their feet.
I didn’t even bother looking at their direction since I believed that would just further the misunderstanding that I was there to kill them.
The misunderstanding was soon cleared up as the group of thugs strolled into the alley way, their weapons tapping against their sides as they looked me up and down with a predatory grin.
"Heh... Didn’t think you would willingly walk into a dead end like this... And you even brought us to more people we can rob too~" The leader chuckled.
The Mercs that had been wary of me now knew why I turned into this alley and moved to point their weapons at the thugs instead, already opting to join me.
I was still wondering why these thugs were so confident of themselves since they were pretty much facing a bunch of Mercs all armed with guns while they were using melee weapons when one of them lifted up some kind of device and pressed on it.
There was an electrical pulse washing over the entire area and all the Mercs around me suddenly spasmed before they collapsed onto the ground, their bodies emitting electrical sparks.
Some kind of EMP weapon I’m assuming... And it works on anyone with cyware mods implanted in them...
The thugs frowned when they saw I was completely unaffected.
"Not even a single mod huh? Well, that just means you’re weak then~" The leader chuckled before stepping towards me.
Err... Really?
I raised my shotgun and pointed the barrel at him.
Did you forget this?
