The protagonist followed a young master from the ruling class through a city, observing their decadent and cruel behavior. He witnessed how they treated parasitic-controlled beings as mere slaves, even killing them, and saw the young master visit a casino. Inside, the young master and his peers engaged in drug use, confirming the protagonist's disillusionment with this generation.

"They’re just as disappointing as the younger ones."

I had already adjusted to the city, so it wasn’t hard at all for me to find the ones that I was looking for.

But before I started a fight, I wanted to see if I could find anything about the parasites that they used.

Only when I went to investigate, I found that none of the higher ups cared about how the parasites worked. They just left the parasites on auto pilot as they enjoyed the finer things in life just like the younger ones.

There was a part of me that was even confused why the young master had snuck around like that in the first place.

If it wanted, it should have been able to easily obtain the energy that it wanted to use as drugs. There was no need for it to sneak out of the inner city like that and take it from the storage stations.

So the only explanation was that the other young masters had forced it to go and steal it like that. It was most likely some kind of dare that they had forced on the one that I had followed.

Though if it had been caught, it wasn’t as if anything bad would have happened to it.

Ignoring the older members of the ruling class, I focused on the thing that they used to control the parasites.

I had been right about it being some kind of hive mind, it was something that was being controlled by the core of the hive mind.

They kept it trapped and gave it orders, but it also didn’t seem like the core of the hive mind wanted to escape in the first place. The way that the core of the hive mind acted around the members of the ruling class, it seemed like the idea of obedience had long been ingrained into it.

Though whether that was because of the training that it had undergone or because of something else, that wasn’t something that I was certain of.

Even if they acted this way, I could feel the pressure that came from the ruling class.

So even if it didn’t seem like it, they did possess power that allowed them to remain in their current position. There was still value in taking down the ruling class that lived in this city.

"Is there a way to figure out what that kind of energy is?"

That was the last concern that I had before taking on these bipedal creatures.

From what I had seen, I already knew how to deal with them.

The only problem that I encountered now was that they might use this energy that I wasn’t able to detect to attack me. If that was the case, there really was no telling what kind of effect it would have on me.

It was better to be safe than sorry.

But even after searching the core of the hive mind and seeing if I could find anything, I wasn’t able to detect a single thing.

The only thing that I was able to do was use the core of this hive mind as part of my plan.

I had no idea what would happen if I were to do this, but there was one thing that I was certain of.

"It’ll be chaos."

...

"They’re panicking."

I could see what the effects of taking out the hive mind was.

The moment that the hive mind was taken out, all of the parasites seemed to stop functioning.

At first, I thought that this would be the only thing that would happen as they would just shut down since there was nothing guiding them. But it turned out that they were just as resilient as I thought they were.

After they reorganized themselves, the parasites actually created cores from among themselves.

It was interesting to see how new cores were formed among the parasites.

It turned out that each and every one of the parasites had the potential to become the core of a new colony, it was just that they had never done so because there had already been a core.

Once that core was destroyed, it became a civil war as many of the parasites started their own colonies around themselves. It seemed like it would be a while before they reunited as a single colony, but everyone was fighting for control.

That included the bipedal creatures that were supposed to rule over these parasites.

It seemed like they were panicking when the slaves that they once controlled escaped their grasps.

They did what they could to restrain them, but it wasn’t as if they were able to restrain them that easily. Once they had obtained freedom, it wasn’t as if they would give it up that easily.

"But it seems like they still can’t break free of their shackles..." I couldn’t help saying this with a sigh.

Even though the new colonies didn’t obey the commands of the ruling class, it didn’t seem like they were willing to fight against them. It seemed like the fear of the ruling class that had been in them the entire time was not something they could forget that easily.

So in the end, the only thing that they could do was try to run from their control.

It became a matter of cat and mouse as the ruling class chased down the slaves that ran away. But at the same time, I was able to see just what kind of power they possessed that allowed them to control the slaves.

"Isn’t this a bit too simple?"

That was my only thought when I saw their methods.

Though they controlled an energy that I had never seen before, it was used in the most simple way. They just shot out that energy to attack the ones that they were fighting.

It didn’t seem like they had any special techniques at all with how they were using the energy.

"And I was worried about fighting them...this is embarrassing..."
