What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company? Chapter 861: Biotamers

Her exit from the hangar bay was followed by our own, with the lumbering turtle making its slow progress behind me.
A number of armored guards trailed us, though they all maintained a significant distance, clearly hesitant to get any closer to the massive creature behind me.
I remained vigilant, scanning our surroundings, a nagging suspicion in my mind that this woman might be leading us into a trap.
If it was a trap, though, I couldn't fathom what kind she might have prepared that could possibly neutralize the turtle in tow.
We eventually arrived at what appeared to be an industrial cargo elevator, and we stepped onto the platform with the woman.
Several guards followed, occupying spaces as far as possible from the turtle, which wasn't particularly difficult given the platform's generous size, capable of accommodating a small vessel.
As the lift began its descent and the large doors slid shut, my stomach churned with the abrupt movement.
I decided to break the silence, turning to the woman. "Any chance you'll enlighten us on what's happening?" I inquired.
She cast a sidelong glance my way before refocusing ahead. "You shall see soon enough."
Tsk...
I turned to my companions, and both offered me looks of reassurance.
If conflict were to arise, we were confident we wouldn't be outmatched.
I settled in to wait as the elevator continued its downward journey.
Just as I began to ponder the depth of our descent, the elevator shuddered to a halt, and the doors slowly slid open.
It seemed we hadn't reached the lowest level of the station. This area, which initially resembled a storage facility, had apparently been repurposed into some kind of zoo.
The hall opened into a vast space, with numerous large rooms originally intended as warehouses now transformed into animal exhibits. The walls and doorways had been replaced with transparent glass.
Within each enclosure resided a distinct creature. While some appeared familiar, the majority were entirely alien to me.
What struck me as particularly interesting was that the enclosures weren't merely sterile metal boxes. Each seemed thoughtfully designed and decorated to replicate the creature's natural habitat, creating an environment that was both visually appealing and comfortable for its inhabitant.
Currently, the area appeared quiet, save for patrolling guards and individuals who seemed to be animal handlers, tending to and feeding the creatures within their enclosures.
I raised an eyebrow at the woman, who stepped forward, gesturing towards the hall before us.
"What do you think?" she inquired, as if she had just laid bare her entire strategy.
I arched an eyebrow. "What do I think? I don't even know who you are or what this place is. What do you expect me to be thinking?"
She turned to me, her brow furrowed. "Hmm... That's odd... I was quite sure that if you could control that creature, you'd be something like me... Are you not a Biotamer?"
I blinked, a completely new term having just been introduced to me.
"What's a Biotamer?" I asked.
She studied me for a moment, then frowned again. "You don't know? Then how did you manage to control that creature? Aren't you aware of your own capabilities?"
"Look, lady, I'm just here to deliver it because you apparently ordered it to be smuggled here. What are you even talking about?"
Her eyes narrowed. "Which family do you hail from?"
Eh? Wait... Does she already assume I'm a Psionic?
I shook my head. "I'm not a noble."
"I'm not asking if you're a Noble. I'm asking which family you are from."
Oh... So, not a noble family, but just a family name or something?
Even so... What am I supposed to say?
Amber stepped in to my aid. "We came from the Outer Colonies. We aren't from here. We don't belong to any particular family."
The teal-haired woman appeared even more perplexed. She pointed at me. "You... Have truly never heard of a Biotamer before?"
"No? This is the first time I've encountered that term. What on earth is it?"
She turned to the side, gesturing to one of the armored guards. "You there... Bring Seraphim here."
The guard seemed to falter for a moment, as if he'd just been given an impossible order.
Nevertheless, he quickly departed, and the woman turned back to me. "Is this your first time controlling a creature like that? Be honest with me."
Lea spoke up on my behalf. "I don't see why we need to divulge any information to you. Our task was to deliver the creature, not to recount our life stories."
The woman scoffed. "Fair enough... I suppose I have been quite unreasonable so far... Let's start again then."
She took a moment to compose herself, and subtly, the atmosphere around her seemed to shift as she gestured to herself.
"Yuki Nakamura. Eldest of the Nakamura Family of Biotamers. Current head of Nakamura Security and also your client for this job."
Err... Does she want me to introduce myself here or something? I guess we’ve already come all this way at this point and they also know my ship too so might as well...
"Tera... Mercenary," I answered her without going into any other details. Especially not introducing Lea and Amber to her either.
If that bothered her, the teal-haired woman did not show it.
Instead, she nodded at me, "Tera, I see... Interesting name."
Right then, we heard a bark from a dog which was then followed by a scream.
We turned in the direction of the scream to see the guard that had ran off earlier returning in a full sprint with what looked like a golden retriever running behind him.
I would have thought the dog was looking to play with the guard if it wasn’t for the fact that it was snarling and biting at his heels.
After everything that I have learned about dogs, I would be assuming the dog to be something that would make everyone panic and run for their lives.
Then again... I guess this guard was technically running for his life right now.
The Yuki woman scowled at the sight, "Seraphim... Over here."
Surprisingly, the dog actually stopped and changed its direction to run over to her, only to stop to start sniffing in my direction.
The woman seemed to take offense to that and spoke in a more firm tone, "Seraphim. I said over here."
The dog took a moment to sniff again before it eventually plodded over to Yuki’s side.
Both Lea and Amber were now watching the woman closely, their hands on their weapons and their bodies tensed.
It took me a moment to realize that they were like that because they were expecting the woman to command the dog to attack us.
On the other hand, I was just trying to hold myself back from going to pet it.
Yuki gestured at the dog beside her, "I assume this is the first time you’re seeing this, right? I am able to command the dog here to do my bidding with just my words alone. That’s the power of a Biotamer which I believe you possess as well."
I raised an eyebrow, "What kind of power is that?"
"It’s a power that allows us to control certain creatures. Every Biotamer has specific creatures which they are able to control. Yours seem to be that creature in particular."
Mmm... Is it though?
I looked at the golden retriever that hadn’t stopped looking at me the entire time.
I reached out my hand towards it, "Over here girl~ Come here~"
She scoffed, "It’s no use, Seraphim obeys only m--"
The dog immediately ran over to me and started panting, her tail wagging excitedly.
I went ahead to start patting the dog, rubbing its cheeks and head which eventually led to the dog rolling on her back to present her belly to me.
Naturally, I transitioned to giving her belly scritches, prompting the dog to let out a whine of happiness as its tail continued to wag behind it.
It even gave a happy bark as though to encourage me so I scratched at it even faster, making its tail wag faster as a result.
So cute~ And it’s also really fluffy too~
I peeked at Yuki to see the woman staring at me with eyes as wide as saucers, her jaw hanging open as she beheld the sight of me patting her pet dog.
Sorry Yuki... But it seems like your dog likes me too.
Just let me pet her for a while more ok?
