The team successfully cleared a tunnel expedition in a single run, surprising onlookers. Afterward, they returned to a prepared camp for a short break. Patricia, controlling a suit remotely, expressed her excitement about the experience, while Tera and the others discussed their readiness to use their full abilities if necessary. Patricia's remote piloting was made possible by Renata's signal relay system. The team then reviewed the overwhelming positive fan reaction to their previous collaboration, including a deluge of fan art depicting Tera and Patricia in various romantic and intimate scenarios, much to Patricia's embarrassment.

We were back in the tunnels again, the bugs having chosen not to come after us since the Reapers had laid down traps during our retreat that blew up our pursuers and filled the tunnel with flames.

This time, it seemed like the Reapers have brought in the big guns.

Our first expedition into the tunnels was merely just a scouting mission for them as they took stock of the tunnels’ layouts and the strength of the enemy.

Now it seemed like they were serious about clearing it this time.

Because instead of just stopping at Power Armour and heavy weapons with battery packs, they were rolling out the vehicles too.

There were two combat mechs that looked like a pilot’s cockpit with arms and legs attached to it holding a large assault cannon with an ammo rail attached to its backpack.

In addition to that, there was a Spider Tank. This one seemed to be designed specifically to be used in underground tunnels as it not only had a cannon and auxiliary guns attached to the turret, there were also digging tools that were meant to enlarge any tunnels it came across so that it would be able to fit inside them.

In addition to that, there were a few crawler bots that were also following us, these ones were equipped with their own weapons and also carrying supplies as well.

I learned that during the previous dive into the tunnels, Team C was also laying down scanners and some kind of track devices which would help with the drones’ navigation.

And as though that wasn’t enough, they also had combat bots that were released from a supply pod, most of them humanoid in size with a few that were Power Armour sizes.

This was no longer just a Mercenary party but exactly what Nayek had called it, an assault group.

The combat bots were controlled by a rudimentary AI which kind of surprised me since this meant that they were open to using AI in their team.

Then again, there were some people who were obviously of a different race amongst their numbers, with one that was clearly a Zwerger with his short stature and another a Dragonling with his red draconic tail swishing behind him.

We were placed in the centre of the formation as we followed the group, acting as their reserve team while they advanced under Nayek’s instructions.

One of them turned to her and I realised that was Kale, the one who I met the first time.

"Leader. The scanners we left behind are showing the bugs are gathering in an even larger number in the same cavern as before."

Nayek paused before turning towards us, "Thoughts?"

I wasn’t really sure what she was looking for with that question so I just answered normally, "We can just go in, can’t we? I think we’re pretty set up for a fight at this point. That cavern is probably their last line of defense before we reach their Queen or whatever, that’s why they are trying so hard to stop us from advancing further. We get the Queen, we get all of them. No need to waste our time killing everything if we can break a parth through."

"And killing the Queen will kill off all the other bugs?"

"Yes."

She nodded at me, "Very well... We will break a way through the horde, the majority will hold them in place while Assault Team A will follow me to get rid of the Bug Queen of this hive."

A chorus of affirmatives echoed around the group before we continued our way forward.

The good thing was the tunnels were big enough to fit the tank without needing to expand the hole.

We reached the cavern once again and it looked like the bugs had been preparing for us since we found an entire crowd waiting there for us.

Not only were there normal bugs, there were also the flying types, the bulbous ones that shoot acid and even the giant beetle types.

And instead of waiting for us to enter the cavern itself, the bugs had gathered near the entrance and they immediately charged towards us when we appeared.

The tank fired an explosive shell and blasted the first group of bugs apart, sending pieces of their remains flying all around.

The members from the assault team rushed forward, gunning down the other bugs that were trying to fill the gap to establish a foothold in the cavern.

One of the beetle bugs tried to rush towards us but the combat mech started blasting it with its assault cannon.

They seemed to have taken that bug into account since the combat mech was shooting armour piercing rounds and those kinetic shells completely blasted through its carapace without much resistance.

It still needed a few shots before the beetle bug went down, but at least now we had a way to kill it from range.

We followed in after them with the combat bots marching in front of us, shooting down the bugs systematically without hesitation.

One of the bulbous bugs managed to shoot a globule of the acid ball towards us and it looked like it was aimed straight for the tank.

Surprisingly, Patricia was the one who took aim at the acid ball and fired one of her kinetic shells at it, blowing it apart in midair.

The acid rained down on the bugs below, which seemed to be ineffective against them since none of them reacted to it.

"Nice shot," I praised, making the bunnygirl squirm with pride.

We continued our push forward, this time we were easily mowing down the horde even though my group was not actively participating in the fight since their heavy weaponry took down scores of bugs in a single sweep.

The tank itself could already take down one of those beetle bugs with a single shot from its main cannon while the combat mechs held the others at bay as the tank reloaded for the next shot.

The cavern was already filled with dead bugs to begin with and now the floor was completely filled with them.

The corpses of bugs cracked and splattered under the heels of us marching through the cavern as we continued our relentless assault.

Soon enough, we could see the main tunnel that led to the bowels of their nest where the hive’s Queen no doubt stayed.

"Tera! I need you to swap in for a moment and make an opening to the cave! Assault Team A! Resupply and get ready!"

Several of the Reapers peeled back towards the supply bots and started replenishing their ammunition and explosives.

As for us, we took their place and started covering for them, gunning down any bugs that showed up in our arc of fire.

Unfortunately, Yumiko and Freyja had to hang back for now since they would be in our line of fire if they charged out, but things would change soon enough.

"We’re ready!" Nayek shouted right after that, her team already arranging themselves behind mine.

That was the cue we were waiting for and I switched to my energy blades before nodding at my girls, "Go!"

Freyja and Yumiko charged ahead of me, running straight into the sea of bugs as they started shredding through the bugs in melee range.

I was right behind them with my energy blades, slicing up the bugs that were left behind to clear a path through the cavern.

The rest of my girls followed behind me and made sure the path was clear as we cut our way towards the tunnel at the end, only concentrating on killing the bugs that blocked the path there.

When they tried to fill the gap we made, the others would be quick to shoot them down before they could flood into the space and all we had to do was to just concentrate on charging straight ahead.

Some of the bugs thought it might be a great idea to shift their focus to us instead and peeled away from the main group, which was a big mistake since the others that we left behind quickly gunned them down from behind, covering our charge.

The tunnel to the Queen was right up ahead and a single beetle bug was there to act as the final line of defense against us.

It let out an audible click with its mandibles and was about to charge towards us before a tank shell blew through its torso, leaving a gaping hole there before Freyja leapt up and sliced through its neck with her claws.

At the same time, Yumiko also leapt towards it and had her swords slash out in a cross, slicing the bug into half and letting its body drop to the ground with a resounding thud.

The path to the Queen was free.

We held the entrance to the tunnel while the Reapers rushed past us, this was meant to be their job to begin with so the final blow belonged to them.

Once the Queen is dead... We can finally get paid~
