The next morning, Xiao Mo slowly woke from his bed.
Xiao Mo had no idea what had happened the night before, only feeling that he had slept remarkably well.
As always, with the maids' assistance, Xiao Mo washed, dressed in his dragon robe, and attended the morning court session.
Once court concluded, Xiao Mo returned to the imperial study to continue reviewing memorials.
In the afternoon, Xiao Mo went to the Dao Inquiry Platform to practice his sword.
The day seemed, on the surface, no different from usual yet Xiao Mo kept sensing that the palace felt unusually quiet today.
Thinking it over carefully, Xiao Mo realized why the palace felt so quiet.
Never mind that Xue Kui hadn't come to play with him, even Siyao hadn't come to "pester" him.
Ordinarily, whenever he reviewed memorials in the imperial study, or practiced sword at the Dao Inquiry Platform.
Siyao would quietly slip in.
Either sitting nearby, helping grind ink or brew tea or sparring with him at the Dao Inquiry Platform and never mind Siyao, even Qingyi hadn't shown up during his sword practice today.
This left Xiao Mo feeling genuinely out of sorts.
"Sili, has something happened within the harem?" After an hour of sword practice, Xiao Mo sheathed his sword, saying to Sili. "Why haven't I seen Siyao or National Preceptor Jiang today?"
"This..." Sili's eyes shifted. "The National Preceptor should still be at her residence. As for Consort Mu, this servant heard from the maids at Han Jiu Palace that Consort Mu seems to have fallen ill."
"Ill?"
Xiao Mo froze, wondering if he had misheard.
An Upper Three Realms cultivator, ill?
"Yes." Sili nodded. "This servant doesn't know the specifics either."
In truth, Sili had already guessed what had happened.
Last night, Qin Siyao had failed to hold back the Lord of the Four Seas and so, without question, Qin Siyao had surely been injured.
"Never mind, have the carriage prepared. To Han Jiu Palace. I'll go check on Consort Mu."
After some thought, Xiao Mo said slowly.
"Yes."
Sili nodded, hurrying to withdraw to prepare the carriage.
At the same time, the rear courtyard of Han Jiu Palace.
Qin Siyao rolled up her sleeve, slowly pouring tea for the woman before her, smiling: "I must say, Sect Master Jiang seems a bit lacking in solidarity. Last night presented such a perfect opportunity, and yet Sect Master Jiang never once showed herself. Had Sect Master Jiang stepped in, even the Lord of the Four Seas couldn't have stopped us."
"Had we managed to hold Bai Ruxue back, Yu Yunwei and the others could have successfully brought His Majesty back to the Ten Thousand Dao Sect."
"Afterward, with the Ten Thousand Swords Sect, the Qin Kingdom, and the Ten Thousand Dao Sect all joining forces, the Four Seas wouldn't be entirely unbeatable either."
"And what then?" Jiang Qingyi lifted her teacup, taking a calm sip. "Then would you, I, and that Ten Thousand Dao Sect master all share Xiao Mo together afterward?"
"And besides, I don't believe you'd truly be so generous as to genuinely share a man with others, Your Majesty."
As she spoke, Jiang Qingyi gave a cold laugh.
"And besides, I have no wish to share him with anyone else either. He can only be mine, and I will win him for myself, by my own strength."
Hearing Jiang Qingyi's words, Qin Siyao said nothing, only smiling at her.
"My lady—"
Just as Qin Siyao and Jiang Qingyi fell into silence, a maid walked in, bowing to both of them.
"His Majesty has heard that my lady is unwell, and has come specially to visit. His Majesty has already arrived at the front hall."
"I understand. You may withdraw. Tell him I'm resting in my room."
Qin Siyao still looked at Jiang Qingyi, though her words were directed at the maid.
"Yes, my lady." The maid bowed, glanced once at the National Preceptor beside her, then withdrew.
"It seems he still cares for you quite a bit." Once the maid left, Jiang Qingyi said coldly to Qin Siyao.
"Regardless of anything else, I've already exchanged wedding vows with His Majesty."
Qin Siyao smiled, looking at Jiang Qingyi.
"Heh heh heh—" Jiang Qingyi gave a cold laugh, rising to leave.
"I know Sect Master Jiang dislikes forming alliances with others. Honestly speaking, aside from that foolish girl Wangxin, who among them, including that Lord of the Four Seas, would actually want to share Xiao Mo with anyone else?"
As Jiang Qingyi walked forward, Qin Siyao's voice drifted from behind her.
"But Sect Master Jiang, I'll say it again: only once we've dealt with that Lord of the Four Seas together can we then compete against one another."
"But so long as that Lord of the Four Seas remains, and we keep fighting among ourselves, there won't be much opportunity left for any of us."
"Or is it that, to Sect Master Jiang, you're content remaining merely his disciple for your entire life?"
The moment Qin Siyao's final words fell, Jiang Qingyi stopped in her tracks, turning her head, glancing back at Qin Siyao, saying coldly: "Three thousand years ago, I already stopped being his disciple. Three thousand years from now, even more so!"
With these words, Jiang Qingyi's figure vanished from before Qin Siyao.
"Says she isn't, and yet in her heart, still treats him as her master."
Watching the direction Jiang Qingyi had departed, Qin Siyao shook her head helplessly.
Rising to her feet, Qin Siyao turned, walking into her own room.
She removed her outer robe, changing into a plain white, thin gauze nightgown, then deliberately disturbed the spiritual energy within her body somewhat, causing her complexion to appear paler.
Before long, Xiao Mo pushed open the door, walking into Qin Siyao's chamber.
"Your Majesty, this concubine pays respects to Your Majesty."
Seeing Xiao Mo arrive, Qin Siyao hurried to throw back the covers, about to rise and bow.
"My consort is unwell. There's no need for such formality." Xiao Mo hurried forward, gently pressing Qin Siyao back down onto the bed.
"All of you may withdraw for now."
Xiao Mo said to the maids within the room.
"Yes, Your Majesty."
Laoyue and the others bowed, withdrawing, closing the door behind them.
"How is Siyao feeling?" Xiao Mo asked Qin Siyao, his tone carrying genuine concern.
Looking at Qin Siyao's pale complexion and listless demeanor, Xiao Mo suspected something genuinely wrong might have happened to her.
"My thanks for Your Majesty's concern. This concubine is fine." Qin Siyao smiled faintly. "It's simply that a small mishap occurred during cultivation, causing some minor issues with my spiritual meridians. A period of rest should resolve it."
"I see. I'm relieved Siyao is all right." Xiao Mo appeared to let out a sigh of relief. "If there's anything you need, please tell me directly, though I suspect there's little I could actually do to help you."
"Your Majesty mustn't say such things. There is, in fact, something I need Imperial Brother's help with." Qin Siyao's eyes curved into a smile.
"Go ahead, Siyao." Xiao Mo said.
"The spiritual energy within this concubine's body has grown disordered, and requires some dragon-qi to help settle it. I wonder if Your Majesty might help this concubine, letting me draw upon a little..."
"Of course, no problem at all." Xiao Mo nodded. "I'm simply not sure how exactly I should help you, Siyao."
"Imperial Brother, please take off your shoes first." Qin Siyao smiled, patting the space beside her. "Then come sit here, Imperial Brother."
Xiao Mo did not understand what Qin Siyao meant by this, but he removed his shoes and socks regardless, seating himself beside Qin Siyao.
But before Xiao Mo could react, Qin Siyao seized his hand, pulling him down onto the bed, then threw back the covers, pulling herself and Xiao Mo together beneath them.
Upon the bed, Qin Siyao rested her head against Xiao Mo's chest, her arms wrapping tightly around him, breathing in his scent hungrily.
"Siyao?"
Xiao Mo called softly to the woman beside him.
At this moment, Xiao Mo could clearly feel the softness of Qin Siyao's delicate body.
Her body felt as though made of water, as though the slightest pressure from him could crush her entirely.
Qin Siyao's full, rising chest pressed against Xiao Mo's body.
Xiao Mo could even clearly sense the scale of those peaks, and the lovely scenery at their summit.
"Your Majesty, don't move. This concubine is borrowing your dragon-qi." Qin Siyao said gently.
"Should I just lie like this, then?" Xiao Mo still sensed something was off.
"Mm..."
Qin Siyao rubbed her cheek against Xiao Mo's chest, her soft, fair arms drawing him ever closer.
"Just like this... will do..."
…
"Wutong, is it really okay for us to just go over there like this?"
"What's not okay about it? We're going to declare war. What, do you expect me to invite them for tea first?"
"That's not what I meant. I just mean, declaring war, what if they get angry and just kill us on the spot?"
"Why are you such a coward? Then why'd you even come with me?"
"I'm not a coward, I'm just worried you'll get killed!"
"All right, all right, no point talking about that now. We're already here."
Beneath the walls of the Ten Thousand Li Great Wall, a young man who appeared no more than twenty and a young woman were bickering with one another.
Both the young man and woman shared the same master, the ruler of the Nine-Tailed Kingdom.
And today, they had come to the base of the wall on their master's instructions.
"The arrow?" Wutong extended his hand toward his childhood friend.
"Huh? The arrow? Oh, oh..." the woman named Jinhua patted herself down here and there, quickly handing an arrow feather to Wutong.
"Are you an idiot! And the bow too! And the letter!" Wutong rapped Jinhua on the head.
"Don't call me an idiot! And don't hit my head either!" Jinhua kicked Wutong, then produced the longbow and envelope.
"An idiot, and won't even let me say it."
Wutong muttered, tying the envelope to the arrow feather, drawing the bowstring, and firing with tremendous force!
"BOOM!"
With a thunderous crash, the arrow feather embedded itself deeply into the wall of the Ten Thousand Li Great Wall!
"Hey! You useless humans!"
Wutong called out loudly.
"Our master has us bring a message to the Ten Thousand Laws Realm!"
"You useless wretches, dare you fight!"
…
Within Demon-Suppressing City.
An enormous, dark-skinned figure, three zhang tall, sat upon the grass.
The large figure hugged his own knees, appearing rather curiously docile.
The large figure's head turned left and right, his gaze constantly shifting toward his own younger sister.
Before the large figure, He Yeye, her fair, delicate feet bare, ran about on the grass playing football with children twelve or thirteen years old, her twin ponytails swinging behind her.
Though He Yeye was nearly ten thousand years old, she still behaved like a child but, admittedly, playing with these twelve and thirteen-year-old children caused He Yeye not the slightest sense of incongruity, especially given her own height...
"I'm blasting it in!"
He Yeye, dribbling the ball single-handedly from the backfield to the front, weaving past three children, then swept a flying kick, the ball arcing through the air, landing perfectly within the net woven of hemp rope.
"Yes!" He Yeye raised her small fists triumphantly, her two ponytails swinging. "I am simply unstoppable!"
"You're cheating! City Lord Sister must have used spiritual energy!" a cunning thirteen-year-old boy shouted.
"That's right, that's right! City Lord Sister can't take losing!" another child chimed in.
"That goal doesn't count!"
"Doesn't count, doesn't count!"
"Why doesn't it count! I didn't use any spiritual energy at all." He Yeye put her hands on her hips, saying indignantly. "If you're bad, practice more, you know!"
"But City Lord Sister is being a sore loser!"
"I am not being a sore loser!"
Before long, He Yeye was arguing with the children.
The female official standing nearby could not help but press a hand to her forehead.
Though, having served beside the City Lord for these many years, this official knew well enough her childlike temperament.
But still... for the City Lord to use spiritual energy playing football with children, and then to cheat about it once caught, was genuinely embarrassing.
"City Lord, a letter has arrived from the demon race's territory!"
Just as He Yeye's disputed goal continued being argued over, a soldier guarding the city flew over, calling out to He Yeye.
"A letter from the demon race's territory?"
He Yeye's brow furrowed, taking the envelope.
The female official named Li Siwen, too, stepped forward.
"Heh heh heh... this Tushan Jingci has considerably more nerve than those old fossils."
Having read it, He Yeye gave a cold laugh.
"City Lord, what does this letter say?" Li Siwen asked, puzzled.
"See for yourself." He Yeye handed over the letter.
Li Siwen read the black characters on the white paper, her eyes widening ever further, her expression full of disbelief.
"Interesting, isn't it."
He Yeye folded her hands behind her back.
"Thirty years from now, Tushan Jingci wants to hold a competition against our Ten Thousand Laws Realm. Both sides will select their finest talents under a hundred years of age, and whoever remains standing at the city walls at the end will claim thirty percent of the other realm's fortune!"
"This..." Li Siwen hesitated. "How could the demon race's territory be so confident?"
"But the demon race's territory truly is this confident. So what about our Ten Thousand Laws Realm, then?"
He Yeye raised her head, gazing at the distant horizon.
"Copy this letter a thousand times over, and send it to every major sect throughout the Ten Thousand Laws Realm."
"I'd like to see whether those old fossils of the Ten Thousand Laws Realm, settled comfortably for thousands of years now, still dare to accept the challenge!"
