High Lord Rashal and his allies arrive for the Purgation Duel, making a statement with their white attire. High Lord Leenim voices his support, but their attention is soon drawn to the arrival of High Lord Ursa's contingent in pale blue. Meanwhile, the Cluster Custodian meets with the Overseer of Realms, who reveals a dangerous new threat: certain Scions are more powerful than anticipated and have put the Overseer in a precarious position.

For such a big occasion such as the Purgation Duel, none arrived late.

Since it was tied to the Cluster Custodian, their masters, none dared to arrive late.

Some arrived a few hours prior to the occasion, and the host already expected that and prepared simple pleasantries for them to wait. Most came an hour before the stated time—including High Lord Rashal’s group, and all that remained was to wait for the Cluster Custodian.

Only he could bring them to the special arena created for this specific occasion.

High Lord Rashal’s group and High Lord Leenim’s group stuck together.

Both were to sit at a big table, separated from the other High Lords who sided with High Lord Ursa.

Most of them came from a political family or were wealthy merchants, while High Lord Leenim’s family was heavily tied to the military, so it made sense that only he would side with High Lord Rashal—while the others kept their distance to avoid political assassination.

High Lord Ursa had won countless times against other High Lords, so why would he lose now?

Or at least, that’s what the other High Lords were thinking as they flocked around the host’s table.

Rex sat down while his eyes scanned the entire hall for any danger.

Even though the Cluster Custodian forbids them from engaging one another before the Purgation Duel, there was no wrong in being careful. Besides, he knew that it was best to cheat when others were not, as that would guarantee one’s victory.

He was sure High Lord Ursa knew that.

"Being in this situation again felt like a repeated nightmare." Lilliana sighed, watching the others completely avoid them. All she saw was a death sentence if the Purgation Duel didn’t save the day. "I don’t like this feeling."

"It would be over soon," Davina assured.

Considering what Rex was able to pull in the last several days, she was confident.

Anyone who stood beside Rex would feel the same.

From convincing a Warden of Time and training inside a time bubble where time passed faster, to dominating the weakened Goddess of the Greater Moon, and even killing a Lunirich God of the Hunter Moon. The last few days felt surreal.

It almost felt like being in a dream where she was following the strongest person in existence.

Someone invincible.

No matter how this battle would go, she knew that Rex would find a way to handle the situation.

Rex was weak in many things involving emotions and people—but he was extremely adept at handling stressful situations where his life, and the lives of many others, were on the line. He was a machine that specialized in these things.

For that, there was nothing to worry about.

"Stay here." Rex squeezed Davina’s thigh and stood up, eyes locked on someone.

Davina wanted to ask where he was going, but then saw him walking straight to another empty table to the side. Or at least, it was almost empty—as there was only one person sitting at that table, and it was none other than Diamantona.

Sitting there alone was an invitation, and Rex accepted it.

"What is he doing?" Vadyn leaned forward and asked—she was sitting beside Lilliana to Davina’s right. "He can’t make a fuss right now. Not when the Purgation Duel was about to start."

"He won’t." Davina waved her hand dismissively. "He’s not stupid."

"Sister..." Lilliana held Davina’s forearm and squeezed tightly. "Let me give you some good luck."

For a second, Davina frowned as she didn’t know what Lilliana was talking about. Then, she felt a sting on her forearm. She wanted to pull her arm away, but the grip was strong enough. "What are you doing? Can you at least give me a warning?"

Lilliana didn’t answer.

She kept squeezing Davina’s forearm for almost five long seconds, and then let it go.

Davina couldn’t see what Lilliana did because of her long sleeve—but she could tell that there was power circulating under it. Something foreign, but she recognized what it was a second later. "How? How did you do this?"

"You may be our family’s favourite, the genius of our family, but you don’t know everything about our family." Lilliana’s lips curled into a knowing smile. "I’m the eldest—and I know things. I know secrets that our family holds."

"Is it mother’s...?"

"Yes."

"How come she never mentioned it to me?"

"Because there was no imminent threat to our family. Make good use of it. Even though it’s mine—the energy needed would still be supplied by your body—so keep that in mind and do not use it recklessly. Do you understand?"

"Sister... Can it be reversed?"

"Why are you asking such a silly question?" Lilliana covered her mouth and laughed humorously.

Even though she seemed fine, Davina felt a hidden melancholy in her laughter.

It couldn’t be reversed, and Lilliana was only pretending that she was fine, giving it up.

"I will make good use of it, sister." Davina squeezed her own forearm with her other hand, right on the spot where Lilliana had held earlier, right on the spot where the burning sensation still lingered. "You won’t regret it."

"Just use it to support Rex as much as possible." Lilliana turned away.

Considering how Lilliana had been before Rex’s appearance in their lives, Davina couldn’t believe that she would give up something as precious as this. Davina knew that she always beat herself up for not being able to keep up, so this power was a big deal.

For her to do this showed how much Lilliana had grown since then.

And Davina wasn’t going to waste it.

A few figures sat in the empty seats on Davina’s left—High Lord Leenim’s children.

"Sister," the daughter sat down beside Davina and flashed a smile. "May I sit here?"

"You already sat down. And don’t call me sister—call me Davina." Davina answered without looking. "And if you want something from me, then spill it out without beating around the bush. I don’t have the stomach for small talk."

She deliberately abandoned her princess title.

Back when she was hanging out with new friends, they said that there were no princesses or princes here.

So, it was best for her to adapt.

Based on the children’s demeanours and auras, they were most certainly young.

Probably as young as Rex, but lacking a lot of things in comparison to him.

"In that case, I’ll ask you straight. Are you sure you’re going to win the Purgation Duel?" She asked bluntly, exactly as Davina wanted. "I meant no disrespect, but High Lord Ursa has an impressive history. He had beaten many High Lords in a direct confrontation and dominated many others."

Everyone was still doubting High Lord Rashal’s warriors, and it was expected.

Davina wasn’t surprised at all.

"I don’t even sense much divinity from you, and yet High Lord Rashal picked you as his warrior." One of the sons—a man with shoulder-length black hair added from behind. "In our eyes, chances are High Lord Rashal would lose."

"Yeah," the other son, a man with short, spiky black hair, nodded. "I can’t believe Dad would side with High Lord Rashal. It’s like he wanted our family to fall. Even though nothing will happen to us—siding with you would push us into a corner if you really lose."

Davina sighed.

Bringing up their concerns was understandable, as their family was on the line.

But based on how they spoke, it sounded like they had a shallow understanding of their own concerns.

"How old are you?"

"I’m twenty-five." The daughter replied.

"Twenty." The man with short, spiky black hair added.

Then, the other son answered after a brief pause, "I’m thirty-one."

"Instead of enjoying the luxuries of Larta City, have you shadowed your father to do his work?" Davina asked—and saw the answer in their reactions immediately. No. "Have you gone to fight on the frontline as your father did? Gone through the wars he did? Survive countless life-and-death situations as your father did? No?"

She averted her gaze and chuckled darkly.

None of them knew anything.

Just that their pleasant lives were threatened, so now they suddenly have an opinion.

"Anyone who had gone through the life of battle like your father would have their own unique survival instinct. A tug in the midst of battle. A premonition—perhaps. Or even a voice inside the head that had kept them alive." Davina said without looking at them. "Sometimes—those things cannot be explained through logic. But it didn’t always mean that it was wrong. Trust in your father’s instinct.

"After all, that instinct is what gave you the life you are living in right now."

On the other side, Rex sat down with a heavy exhale through his nose.

He sat two chairs away on Diamantona’s right.

Both of them remained completely silent for a good moment, letting the noise in the background fully envelop them. Neither looked at each other. Both were staring straight outside the window where the dark sky loomed, and the people within the pocket dimension retreated to their homes.

"What is your drive, Scion Rex?" Diamantona finally broke the silence.

"I couldn’t protect some people, and now I am trying to protect those who remain," Rex answered after a brief pause to contemplate and convert his thoughts into heavy words. "I want to create a world that is a safe haven for anyone who is tired of fighting. A peaceful world."

"That’s a fantasy. No such thing as a peaceful world."

"I thought that, too. But as Scions, do you really still think it’s a fantasy?"

"I suppose not." Diamantona withdrew his earlier claim, recalling that the Highseat of Invincibility was real and it could give absoluteness to an entity, give a power that placed its bearer at the very top of every existence—with no equal. "But the price is far too steep. Since the annals of time, no one has ever been rich enough to pay it."

"There’s always the first to everything," Rex answered without much thought. "What about you? What is your drive?"

"People in my home realm... they all sought power. Every single thing—was tied to how powerful one was, and it’s tiresome. I lost someone, too. And losing her made me realize nothing good would come in the future other than bloodshed—and suffering even for those who are strong." Diamantona’s pupils shrank as he looked into the distance. "I’m the only one who realized that there was no end to this cycle of power, as it’s the only absolute tool.

"For that..." A tear slid down Diamantona’s cheek, as his emotions were riled by the sadness that lies in the future. "I will become stronger and give everyone a swift and quick death. A beautiful death. I have the Law of Pain, about to be a Major Law soon. It allowed me to kill others without suffering. And that brings our talk to this moment."

Diamantona finally turned his head to look at Rex.

His eyes were glassy and sad, as if seeing Rex brought back saddening memories he wanted to forget.

But Scions are cursed with permanent memories, so he couldn’t forget them.

"I’m not confident that I am strong enough to kill you painlessly—Scion Rex. I need the Major Law of Pain to do that." He paused, almost like saying these words were hard to say. "You can still walk away from this. Let me help you escape so that you can wait for your turn in the future.

"So that you can wait for your beautiful death when I’m confident."

Rex stared at Diamantona in total shock.

Every single Scion has a strong drive that was separated into five acknowledged emotions.

And Diamantona was from the Sadness Stratum.

Initially, Rex thought that Diamantona’s sadness from a tragic past twisted him into something that was far more destructive. Someone who’d want to make the universe suffer as he did. But to think that he’d have a justification to do it was scary.

"You... You’re crazy." Rex mumbled in complete shock.
