The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1969: Brutal Interrogation
Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Rex’s heart was still pounding from what happened earlier.
It was the first time the Absolute Anger Effect had failed to block an attack.
Normally, the automatic block would stop everything—whether he saw the attack coming or not. Blind spots, ambushes, killing intent he couldn’t perceive—none of it mattered. It blocked them all. Not this one, it seemed.
Mayla has a trump card, and it was actually tied to a God.
Because of this incident, Rex learned that there was a limit to the Absolute Anger Effect.
And it’s good to know now rather than later.
Since he knew the Highseat of Invincibility was incredibly strong—aimed by entities that treated Gods as nothing more than someone who can be killed, he relied on the Absolute Anger Effect too much.
Though he could survive earlier even without the Absolute Anger Effect, he couldn’t deny that fact.
Even so, the sneak attack she did still infuriated Rex again.
Bam—!
Rex drilled his fist into her stomach for the second time, forcing more blood to burst from her mouth. Her teeth, which were white earlier, had now been tainted with blood; the gaps between them reddened. And the excruciating pain she was feeling could be felt clearly through her face.
A few tears slid down her cheeks as the pain was unbearable.
Or perhaps the tears slid down due to the realization that she had doomed the entire group.
Rex dropped her to the ground, and she instantly curled around his feet.
His deadly eyes stared at the totem she used earlier, still clutched in her hand, and then stomped it.
"Rarrgh..."
A weak whimper escaped her lips as her hand was stomped, but she held onto the totem.
Held on as if it were the most important thing in this very moment.
Rex bent forward and reached down. His fingers didn’t close around the totem in her hand—they found her index finger instead. He gripped it firmly, then yanked it backward with brutal force, bending it far past its natural limit.
The bone snapped with the sound of a dry branch cracking, and another whimper of pain escaped her.
But she still held on.
He broke every single finger he had in response, forcing her to let go of the totem.
Once it was in his hand, Rex didn’t even bother checking it and instantly stored it in the inventory.
"Are you guys hurt?" He looked over his shoulder to check on the sisters.
Instinctively, he had pushed them away from the energy radius—hoping that they would not be dragged to whatever the totem summoned. And from the looks of it, they seemed to be fine. The System scanned them and found no meaningful wounds.
"I’m okay." Lilliana patted the dirt away.
"We can protect ourselves—you know," Davina replied, and then her eyes fixated on Mayla. "What did she do, anyway?"
"I don’t know exactly what, but I’m guessing it’s a borrowed power from a God." Rex looked down at Mayla and then pressed the sole of his foot against her broken hand. She tried to resist, but she’s simply too weak to do anything meaningful. "Am I right?"
"I won’t... answer," She replied meekly.
Rex only pressed harder.
And the sound of bones cracking echoed again, echoing across the entire plain.
"Answer me, or I’ll do worse things to you."
"N-Never!"
Considering the condition she was in, she was quite brave to refuse his demands.
For a moment, Rex silently commended her endurance—clinging to defiance despite the pain. But then, the truth surfaced: the pain wasn’t fuelling her courage. It was clouding her mind, drowning out the one thing that should have broken her stubbornness.
She had forgotten her comrades were still alive.
Heck, even Farhan was still alive.
And now, Rex would remind her of her surroundings.
But before he made his move, despite the fire burning inside, he stopped to look at Davina.
"Leave two of them," Davina said, knowing what he was asking.
Rex nodded and went to where Farhan lay.
He was still battered, unconscious, and barely breathing, but he was not dead.
For the second time, Rex purchased an expensive healing vial from the System’s shop. He held it in a steady line above Farhan’s mouth without going down, then tilted it aside, letting the shimmering liquid pour between his lips.
Every last drop was spent, and the effect was immediate.
A glowing hum of energy spread across Farhan’s body, fixing the wounds on his body.
Even his face returned to normal.
Rex didn’t stop there; he lifted Farhan’s body with lightning from underground, and then opened his mouth. His sharp fangs, which could cut through armor, came into view. Each fang glowed a reddish hue as more and more kingly energy was charged into it.
And once they were ready, he bit into Farhan’s upper arm.
Kingly energy was injected into Farhan’s internal energy flow, and a mark began to show.
Manifesting from nothing near where Rex was biting.
Once the mark was complete, Rex withdrew his fangs and let Farhan drop to the ground without a second glance. His focus swung back to Mayla. He crouched beside her, facing the remaining Awakened Demigods, all of them penned in by the silent, watchful phantom wolves.
"Answer my question," Rex said without looking. "Tell me what you know about his plan?"
"W-Who’s plan?" She whispered weakly.
"Still playing dumb with me?" Rex leaned in close, his whisper brushing against her ear like the sharp edge of a blade. "I’ll let it slide this once. But next time, there will be consequences. Now, I’ll ask you again. What do you know of High Lord Ursa’s plan against High Lord Rashal?"
"Plan...?"
"I’m not repeating it again."
Realizing that Mayla was still out of it, Rex grabbed her by her collar and slapped her hard.
Pah—!
Seems like that slap worked as her eyes focused again.
"W-What? What happened?" She rasped in shock, blinking her eyes to understand the situation.
"Okay, that’s enough chances." Rex’s eyes shifted to the Awakened Demigod on the far left. "It seemed you would only treat this seriously once one of you dies again. I’ve given you many chances already, so don’t think I’m being unreasonable."
Just as Rex was about to stand up, Mayla’s hand held onto his wrist.
"Wait!" She exclaimed in panic. "Don’t do this; we’re only following orders. Please, don’t do this!"
Rex stared at her messy face, which was streaked with blood and tears that made her look pitiful.
"Who said anything about me doing something?" He asked with a knowing smirk.
"W-Where am I...?"
A voice crept into Mayla’s ears, making her hold her breath.
Slowly, she looked over her shoulder and saw Farhan was rising to his feet, wobbly.
Just a minute ago, he had been utterly wrecked—broken, bleeding, barely clinging to life. Now he stood before her completely fine, as if none of it had happened. Relief flickered through her, brief and fragile, at the sight of him alive and whole.
Then it shattered.
She understood what Rex truly meant.
"Welcome back." Rex rose to his feet and turned to face Farhan.
Seeing this monster immediately brought back memories, forcing Farhan to leap back in alert.
But Rex wasn’t worried.
"Go and kill that guy over there," Rex pointed at the leftmost Awakened Demigod with his thumb. "Do it with your bare hands. I don’t care how you do it—but do it with your bare hands so that you can feel it even more."
"Are you cra—?!" Farhan’s words got stuck in his throat.
His body was suddenly not his own.
Both his eyes snapped to his arm, and there it was—the heresy mark.
It glowed with a cold, insidious light.
He could feel its energy threading straight into his mind, bypassing every wall of defense he had, and taking over him at the deepest level. He didn’t want to obey. Didn’t want to kill his friend. Every instinct screamed against it.
However, his body was no longer his own.
And it moved without his consent, forcing him to walk decisively towards the Awakened Demigod.
"No, wait!" Mayla shoved herself up on trembling arms and barely managed to rise onto her knees. She clutched at Rex’s leg with a panicked, pleading smile that twisted her tear-streaked face. Her pupils quivered, glazed with fear. "I’ll answer everything! Every question! Just please, don’t do this... Don’t make him do this!"
"M-Mayla!" Farhan screamed; his tongue was the only thing still in his control. "I can’t stop! Stop me!!"
"No, plea—" Mayla stuttered. "You can’t do this!"
"It’s too late now." Rex crossed his arms. "Do better after this."
Despite Mayla’s begging for mercy, Rex didn’t retract his command—and watched as Farhan went over to the leftmost Awakened Demigod, who seemed to be out of it. His face was clearly reluctant and desperately trying to break free, but the control through the Divine Tainting skill was too strong.
And since it was branded when he was weakened, the control ran deep.
Now, he was nothing more than a puppet that would heed Rex’s words without question.
Only by erasing the heresy mark can he be freed, but at this moment, nobody could do that for him.
"No, no!" Farhan’s eyes went wide as he stared at his own hands that were wrapped around the Awakened Demigod’s head. One hand gripped the chin, the other, the back of the skull. He knew exactly what they were about to do, and he couldn’t stop them. "I don’t want to do this... I don’t want to!"
He can resist all he wants, but there’s no chance he could stop this with sheer willpower.
No matter what, Rex’s command is absolute.
Brutally, Farhan pinned his knee over the Awakened Demigod’s back and began to pull.
He pulled the Awakened Demigod’s head with both hands—the skin stretched first, and then the flesh, before finally the spine broke with a loud crack. Blood spurted out from the headless corpse, and some splattered onto his face.
Farhan dropped to the ground and breathed heavily.
Still in a daze.
His hand rose to his face and came away slick with blood. He stared at the crimson on his fingers—and the full weight of what he’d done crashed down on him like a collapsing mountain. A scream tore from his throat—raw, unhinged.
He had survived countless battles, a veteran in blood and gore.
But no amount of experience could ever numb the horror of killing a friend.
Rex looked down again and saw that Mayla was stunned.
"Are you ready to answer my questions now?"
In the next ten minutes, Rex asked everything that he wanted to know that might help him.
He asked about High Lord Ursa’s plan, but Mayla didn’t know much other than his desire to make High Lord Rashal suffer. Davina confirmed that she wasn’t lying, reading Mayla’s face like a seer. Then, he also asked about the reason for this assassination attempt.
Mayla told him that he was spotted helping High Millinar Alexander.
Since they had no information on him, not even a clear image of his face, Mayla and the other Awakened Demigods were assigned to find out more about him. To know his origin, his power, and his position in High Lord Rashal’s people.
Yet somewhere along the way, the group decided to eliminate him instead.
Eliminate and forget.
They decided on this as a commemorative final mission before their promotion.
Frankly, the reason was baffling as it was clear they were too confident about their own abilities.
Even so, Rex could use this information.
Now he knew High Lord Ursa and his people didn’t know how Rex looked.
He was wearing a mask back then, so it’s not a surprise.
So—for them to be able to find him without knowing how he looked could only be through where he lived. It was the reason why one of them came to Larta City. And this can only mean one thing.
